Utah State men’s basketball coach Craig Smith will not get Minnesota job

Smith was reportedly to interview with the Golden Gophers, but the university announced another hire.

The article also mentions something I hadn't considered:

 

"Smith’s name will likely be thrown around for other open positions in college basketball, including at the University of Utah, from which Larry Krystkowiak was fired last week."

A lot of gopher fans not thrilled w the hire but a few are sure hopeful miles will come be an assistant. Johnson getting a 2 million dollar salary having never been a coach and being known as an okay recruiter has to be due to him being alumni right?

Ben Johnson was an impressive Canadian Olympic sprinter, but was stripped of his gold medal due to doping. It's a shame. Oh wait... not that guy!

Wow! Minnesota hiring an assistant from Xavier.  He must have won the interview.  Utah would be a tough job for Smith to succeed though they do have a tradition.
