I think this took a turn that was never intended, this has nothing to do with football. Let's get that out of the way right now. The team is scuffling, and Arop could be a bright spot as the season ends. I want him to do well. Let's not get carried away that will lead to anything further. He's a role player, and likely will be going forward.

They're not walk-ons.

And, yes, I want to see Nebraskans do well. It's obvious they all *should* care, and it's equally clear they all do not. That's my take.

Never said they were, technically Charlie was.  Its just the way people act about these players that are role players, who arent as talented, yet they want them to play more.  Look at the ovation Charlie got being introduced in the starting lineup at the Penn St game and anytime he made a play.  Yeah its exciting and good for them but if thats what this program relies on then shut it down.

Im only saying that playing NE kids wont lead to success and people freak out over walkons on the fb team cause they are from here.  I know Im in the minority with this thought probably, but I want this thing to work and work the right way with Fred.

I do tend to agree when discussing the vast future. And, right now, I think the team mired in a lengthy losing streak has to grasp on to something 'good,' which is what Charlie represents to that home-city kid done good. Let's not make it more than it is. I have no issue with getting the best players, and also commending the local products who have shown grit & hustle when times are rough. It's not an either/or situation.

I've never understood the disdain, and in some cases downright hatred, people have for Cam.

I really like Cam as a player and because he’s so good, gets a pass from me over his on-court displays of emotion (good and bad). But I could see how people could be turned off. Dan dakich was the commentator for our game against Michigan and when Cam celebrated, he said ‘what are you doing? You’re in 13th place, get back down the floor.’ So I can see how some people may not like him if they share Dakich’s opinion.

Have you seen seen him in a post-game interview after a loss? I remember one game it was cheatham and him answering questions. He has the body language of a mopey 15 year-old, while cheatham was calm and collected.

Yeah Charlie plays hard but skills lack as well as Akol's and are more a liability at this point.

You know this about these players how? The old eye ball test? You can see today that neither of them will amount to much as college basketball players? They aren't the kind of players that can't help our program go? I strongly disagree.

Akol is a true freshman scholarship player, who was the Nebraska Gatorade player of the year in  2019. The type of player we have been losing out on to our rivals the last few years.

Charlie is a walk on, and who, like Akol was also an all state player. I also believe that he played on the same AAU team as Akol.

We can revisit this post in 3 years. I have a feeling that it won't age well.

Some would call it a lack of maturity. I'm all for letting the kids celebrate and have zero issues with Cam's bow-and-arrow. My disappointment is his body language when things aren't going his way and his apparent pouting. He wants to be a pro then he needs to start acting like a pro.

Doesn't it seem like giving Donovan Williams the option to walk away is a sign that the staff isn't overly concerned about where any of our players come from? In that regards, your football call-in show talking point concern doesn't seem to be any sort of real issue.

If you want things to work the right way with Fred, then we have to let him do it his way.  If his way is bringing on some Nebraska talent that you perceive as "role players" than what is the harm in that?  The fact that these two are freshman should be enough to be in a "wait and see" approach in terms of upcoming years.  If Fred ends up recruiting over every Nebraska kid on the roster and we win a game in the dance then no one will bat an eyelash at how we did it.  In addition, if we end up winning a game in the dance in a few years and Charlie and Arop play no, limited or meaningful minutes, we'll all look back on this season and be thankful that they go the PT that they did.  Until we have new recruits on campus and ready to go, these guys are our future.

*Breaking News* Nebraskans are “provincial”... you see this everywhere, but even more so here. I don’t understand the haters on Mack & Green either, maybe we expected them to be better or bought into best case scenario (I know I did) Now is the time in a LONG season when people start “assigning blame” that accomplishes nothing. Fred’s seen all of this before & will lead us out of the woods. GBR my friends!

For reference, the only Iowan who played even remotely significant minutes for Hoiberg at ISU was recruited walk-on Bubu Palo, who started three games in Hoiberg's first (disastrous) season and then saw his minutes decrease as the team improved to an NCAA Round of 32 and Sweet Sixteen team the next two years. As a freshman, Palo played in 32 games, starting 3. As a junior, he played in 21 games because he broke his wrist. As a senior, he played in 17 games, in part because he was suspended for half the season. His minutes per game decreased from year 1 to year 2, and from year 2 to year 3.

Back on topic. Do "Face with Mask", "Face with Thermometer", and "Sneezy Face"  mean that Dachon Burke didn't make the flight yesterday or would I need to see "Vomit Face" "Bed" and/or "Hospital" in order to definitively infer this?

Confirmed. Burke didn't make the trip sad emoji face

Both Charlie and Arop are D1 athletes, and both were offered D1 scholarships out of high school.  Charlie has been a good player for us as a true freshman.  If what he brought was the same thing brought by, say, scholarship player Samari Curtis, I'm sure everyone would be very excited about his future.  I think he'll be a defensive specialist and deadly three point shooter by his junior year.  His athleticism on defense shocked me, quite frankly.  Arop is raw, but remember he is a freak athlete with an outside stroke.  Fred tends to know what to do with those.

And, anyone claiming "hate" and "disdain" have likely never been subjected to the 'hate' while playing this beautiful game of basketball. If this minute level of criticism is either, then color me blind.

I think it will age well.  Neither was highly recruited.  If either is more than a role player then that is an issue.  And never said they wouldnt amount to anything.  Your words, not mine.

What do you mean by that? I don't want to put words in your mouth so I'll ask directly, do you think HCFH made a mistake by honoring the Akol scholarship and taking Charlie as a walk on?

Not at all.  Im just saying you shouldnt expect more out of them other than to be role players.  5-10 mins off the bench with maybe more due to foul trouble or injuries.  You need those type of players on the roster.  Im only saying that just cause they are from here doesnt mean they deserve more playing time cause of the perceived they care more.

You think Akol will only be a role player...hmmm ok. Like I said this will not age well.
