There are some terrible typos in this.. most notably:

Jaron Boone led NU to the 2006 NIT Title

Cookie Belcher played in 1,310 games (but only started in 129 of them)

Ryan Anderson made the Big 12 Defensive Team (no All)

Henry T made all the All Big 8 in 1998

No mention of several NBA careers..

Regardless:

Lue

Strick

Pike

Farmer (don't sleep on Farmer.. long NBA career)

Maric

Let's see, Cookie played 1310 games...figure about 33 games a season...his career lasted approximately 40 years....

Sure didn't seem like he was at NU that long did it?

There were others I noticed too...

For Bernard Day - "Earned honorable-mention All-Big Eight honors in 2006, averaging 13.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in helping the Huskers reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history"

For Stan Cloudy - "Two-year starter who helped Nebraska earn a spot in the 2003 NIT semifinals" and "Earned second-team All-Big Eight honors in 2004, ranking second on the Huskers in both scoring (13.4) and rebounding (6.5) while also averaging 2.8 assists per game"

I went with

Hoppen

King

Pike

Lue

Jack Moore

Initially, I thought Hoppen and Pike would be on every ballot.  Lue and King on many or most.  Then Jack, Strick, Maric, Hamilton, Banks, Buchanon, Mikki, being common on others lists.  It's fun to think about, and, no matter how you look at it, there are great arguments for all these players and others to be on this list.

This did prove to be difficult.  I have two point guards, but they were the best two guards, IMO.

Lue

Jack Moore

Hoppen

Pike

Andre Smith  (imagine him playing a four....)

cip, You and I had the same except I put King  in and you had Andre.  Having not seen him play, am I giving Andre enough credit?   Was King be right up there for you as well?   Maybe being a Sonic/Thunder fan had something to do with it.

Just curious.

unl,

Andre Smith, IMO, is one of the most underrated Huskers ever.  At 6'7", he went against players 3-6" taller than him every game and still dominated.  It would have been nice to see him playing for a year or two with Hoppen, but that's pretty much the story of Nebraska basketball, isn't it?  We're always just a little off with timing... ;)

Nothing wrong with the King selection.  He had all the tools, and his senior year, had a ton of talent surrounding him.  He had better athleticism than Hoppen, but Hoppen had such a touch around the basket and Iba had an offense designed to get him the ball.

Like I originally said, and others before me, this is not an easy exercise having watched everyone on the list play.  It's a little hard to believe that all these really good, if not great players, don't have an NCAA Tourney victory among them.  Such is life.....

A nice list and a lot of my favorites. But why not make everyone who played eligible? Where's Curtis Moore? Where is Bill Jackman? Where are some of the more recent guys like Wilkinson, Drevo and Turek? Since I am capable of making my own list, I didn't vote on this one.

I thought if Ade and Jeter are on the list then Nate Johnson has to be on there.

Another interesting scenario would be to build your team based on who you would want with everyone in their prime.  Would you take both Maric and Hoppen?  Or maybe leave one out and go with an extra guard?  Go more offensive or defensive?

Wow. Very tough. Examined this list for quite a long time. Went back and forth. Imagine if we had the history of a Kansas or Kentucky or Duke and had to pick 5 guys. Here's my five:

Lue

Brian Carr-all time assists leader at NU

Pike

Hamilton

Hoppen

Went with 2 point guards. Saw Brian Carr on the list and could leave him off. All-time assists leader at Nebraska, at least I think that still holds true, and Danny Nee's favorite player.

Lue

Belcher

Pike

Steffan Bradford (very underrated pf IMO)

Hamilton

Larry Florence and Strickland could be In there to for me.

Definitely alot to choose from and fun just to think about all the past guys!

Andre was Big 8 Player of the Year in 1980, and started at Center standing 6'6". If you don't think he's a badass, check out his sideburns!
