I don't have the energy to go through another coaching change. As a fan, that sounds dumb, but it's true.

Wilcher and Breidenbach are incredibly frustrating to me. What I see are two very low BB IQ players who absolutely kill us most games anymore. Sam Hoiberg should get all of CJ’s minutes until he gets out of whatever is wrong with him. We were +11 with him because he played smart basketball and busted his butt, despite his physical limitations. Maybe he will be this year’s Trueblood. I was a bit surprised looking at the final box score. Northwestern barely shot better than us by the end of the game. We lost the game on the boards. Breidenbach had zero boards in his 11 minutes. I would honestly rather see Oleg out there than Wilhelm at this point in the season.

What makes Sam special in my mind is the fact that he's a home town kid and loyal Husker. It's that level of pride he has being a Husker that makes him a unicorn. Sure, there are other more talented players (Lord knows we've had our share of those) but we haven't had one who the name on the front of the jersey means more like him in a while. Certainly for the Hoiberg era he's the first.

I don't even have the energy to vote in this poll. The entire thing is just "meh" at this point.

I voted to retain, even though he doesn't deserve to return, based on merit. It seems more damaging to the program to fire somebody who the majority of fans want to give one more year. He's getting 75%+ backing here, and we're supposed to be the hard-core fans. Imagine the percentage is even higher for the people who are less rabid. We're still arguing about Tim Miles 4 years later, and I don't want to have to listen to that with Fred if the next guy fails. Might be a stupid reason to keep Fred, but that's mine. In my free time, I'm a weather vane.

He moves really well for a kid that tall and that young. This is the kind of kid you probably take a chance on, even if he's not there right now, just because he has the measurables and potential AND because he's from Nebraska. Lincoln, even.

Maybe a more appropriate title for the Poll would be: "Do you want to Go Through another wholesale change?" Changing Head Coaches would likely mean a complete turnover of the coaching and player rosters., i.e. starting over from square one. I thought we already did that this season, with new asst coaches Adam Howard & Ernie Zeigler; player development director Emmanuel Tommy (and coaching staff Nate Loenser & Kurt Joseph new last year). Still, early on, virtually nobody gave us Any Chance of winning more than a couple of conference games, until unheard of new players Juwan Gary and Emmanuel Bandoumel started playing and demonstrating their smothering defensive skills. All of a sudden we won some games where nobody gave us a chance; Some even opined we were an 'exciting' team to watch. All this without Keyontae Johnson, currently tearing it up offensively at Kansas State, who was on the verge of transferring to Nebraska until UNL Administration nixed it. After Gary and Bandoumel, through no fault of their own are injured and out for the remainder of the season, we are back to being "the Bums" again, with zero chance of redemption? So we are going to throw everyone out and start over from square one again?

Who makes the actual game assignments? Who ratifies or approves or grades officials? Can officials lose their certification if they are not doing their job correctly? Can the officials be graded, regulated and assigned by an independent source rather than the league or NCAA? Hey, refereeing is a tough job. Yet like almost every job, the individual chooses the profession and are getting paid a salary and expenses for each gig. If THEY don't like it, they can quit. The question is, if they are not doing their job, can they be fired? Fined? Held accountable?

I will believe that when I see it. I have zero information on this or any inside sources. Just don't get a good gut feeling.

Surprised no one had this up yet. It's tradition, guys. C'mon. OK, so, down 2 starters from the get-go. Wasn't expecting much. Had some good shooting to get us going and actually led 25-22 at one point. And then Northwestern went on a 38-12 run and that was pretty much the turning point of the game. We had them on the ropes but for that 38-12 run. Take away that 38-12 run, and we'd have been right in that thing. Credit to Northwestern. They have some players. They play hard. They did a good job of scouting some of our tendencies. And they are one of the best teams in the Big 10 right now and ranked #43 on Kenpom. Which, by itself, is kind of surprising considering their coach only won 8 games and went 3-17 in conference play in his 7th season at the helm a few years ago. I mean, any sane program would have fired him right then and there. Don't know what Northwestern was thinking. Five straight losing seasons before this year. How did that guy even have a job? He should have been flipping burgers at Burger King, amiright? Right next to Tim Miles, whose San Jose St team is now just 14 spots behind us in the Kenpom rankings. Anyway, did you know Jamarques Lawrence is shooting 41% from beyond the arc in league games? It's true. And he had a solid line tonight, too: 4-9 FGs; 4-8 3ptFGs; 2 bds; 3 asst; 1 TO; 12 pts; 33 minutes. Acquitted himself quite well. Don't anoint him some kind of savior of the program, but give him credit. He's not terrible. He's not like this year's version of Elijah Wood. He's got some game. I kinda like this Lawrence kid. And Keisei continued to show he's serviceable. Better than serviceable. Calling him serviceable at this point is like damning him with faint praise. He deserves some credit. Biggest difference in the game (other than turnovers) was rebounding. We got murdered on the boards. And I kinda feel like that wouldn't have happened if we'd had our two hurt guys. Did you really think we'd win without them? Do you think we might have had a chance with them?

That was back when he thought he was a one-and-done lottery pick, go win a natty at Gonzaga, and then be a Celtic or a Laker the next season. Times change and so do people.

Sam forced plenty of shots and passed last night. I was fine that he took just that many shots. KT is fun to watch. Lawrence is gaining invaluable experience in a hurry. I know some on here have used the lack of a “complete roster” next year as evidence in which Hoiberg should be shown the door, but let’s ponder next year: C - Transfer Portal, 100% Kieta, Olegs PF - Juwan Gary, Wilhelm SF - Gary (if another player is better at the 4), Dawson SG - KT PG - Lawrence Wilcher, McPherson, other transfers coming in off the bench Also, last year at this time nobody knew who Juwan Gary and Bandoumel were. And look at the impact they had this year until being injured. We need to fill some gaps in the portal and develop existing…

Moves really well for his size and has a good looking shot. Reminds me of DJ Wilson who was very raw and barely played his first two years at Michigan before breaking out his junior year.

A couple other observations from last evening: * Perhaps I have been blind; but I hadn't seen Jacobson on the floor warming up until last night. Perhaps there are thoughts of pulling his redshirt. However, Sam Hoiberg's performance may further delay that decision. * Blaise did off-the-court drills in pre-game. He looks close to 100% * I was sort of surprised we didn't see Oleg with a bit more playing time. * CJ cannot play the 4. Of course, he currently is struggling playing the 2 and 3 as well. Man, I wish he could get it going.

He made some necessary changes and I will favor an additional year. Frank Solich was fired within one year of making some very necessary changes to his staff. Our AD at the time felt that if he hadn't made the change, we would slip into mediocrity. Lol. Not sure that is an apple to apple comparison; but with a couple well thought out player additions we could be moving the right direction with Fred at the helm. I am certainly not happily married to Fred...but we seem to have righted the ship.

Facts for your consideration: Fred is 34-78 overall and 12-57 in the Big Ten. Your emotions and your gut also are worthy of consideration.

Frost never should’ve been brought back for year five & whatever warm feelings you have about this Basketball season mean absolutely nothing heading into next year.

If teams pass and space well and make 3's we are going to struggle - particularly with our two defensive stoppers out of the lineup. Northwestern played well and the Berry kid was absolutely unconscious shooting in the first half - probably had the game of his life - I assume his halftime total was a career high for a full game. Was kind of ironic in the 2nd half when he had a completely wide-open look he threw up an airball. Made me wonder if we should have just tried not to guard him before then :). All that said as Norm pointed out the real difference in the game (and in this game vs our past games) was rebounding. Early it seemed like the ball just never bounced our way - but later it was more a reversion to the old failures. Given those struggles the one thing that did not make sense to me was not having Dawson on the floor more. I think he just had 21 minutes and he is clearly our best remaining rebounder. Maybe Fred thought we needed more offense on the floor but there were several times I wondered why Dawson was not in the game. Is Keita ever going to play again? The last home game he seemed to be limping so was not surprised he did not play but did not notice that tonight. He is someone that we need to be giving minutes and he certainly could not have been worse than Wilhelm was tonight. One other positive I saw was during a first half timeout - Bandoumel was out on the court specifically coaching Jamarquez presumably on defense. Was good to see that from Emmanuel and I really hope Lawrence tries to pattern himself off Bandoumel's game. If he tries to become the player Bandoumel has been then I am excited about his future. We are going to struggle the rest of the season. Greisel and Walker are keys to the team obviously - but I think the whole team got their energy from Gary and Bandoumel and we really are going to miss that for the rest of the year. P.S. I thought on the radio that Fred said Greisel was +11 tonight - which seems impossible as that would mean we would have been -26 in the 7 minutes he as not in the game. Maybe he meant we were +11 with Sam Hoiberg on the floor ? FWIW I don't think those numbers are really statistically significant in a single game - too small of a sample - but does anyone know a website that shows the +/- numbers for players for games. Is that on huskers.com somewhere?

That's fair. Sallis can definitely be a primary ball handler and initiate an offense. Gonzaga has three guards ahead of Sallis in the rotation that will be back next year. We need to start the tampering now.

Hey, San Jose State did just beat Air Force last night by 30 and are up to #113 in Kenpom (just 19 spots below us). Largest margin of victory in a Mountain West Conference game in school history, by the way. He may not be HOF material, but let's take it easy on the guy huh?

This is a fair point. Still doesn't mean he's not planning on transferring.
