  1. Just had to bid farewell here to the Thin White Duke. I know David Bowie is about 180 degrees from basketball (although he wrote "Under Pressure," which you'll sometimes here at NBA games, etc.), I also know a lot of us here share a passion for music as well. May he finally learn if there's Life on Mars.

I know, I just mostly wanted to type sonofabitch. And now I got to do it twice this afternoon.

  3. Ok... So let's get this straight... If a group of Husker fans go to an away game and wear the other teams colors and gear... We can "interfere" with play and get the Huskers 2 free throws? Nice!

  5. reduce those to's and it's a pretty darn good performance by the huskers. got lazy with a few of those passes. next big step is to go to Penn St and come out with a win. i noticed coach yori followed RB43 down and back up the bench when she took her out after mishandling a pass from theriot. don't think she was asking her "how's the knee?"

  6. yep There are a lot of MavSkers on this site, even. Why wouldn't we root for UNO, UNK or any other regional team (even those damn jayskers) except when they should lose to the Huskers? Just as the B1G teams should always triumph except when they should lose to the Huskers. (There I am weighing in on another thread about Northwestern) If you compare to old Big 8 football...the best games (and best arguements for us being great) were when the Huskers played the undefeated Sooners (i.e. 1971: 35-31) as opposed to lousy OU teams (like 1997: 69-7) To be the best, you want/need to beat the best. Oh I do cheer for UNO and UNK (might even call me a Lopsker depending on the sport), but I will never cheer for Crayton.

Pissing matches have been around forever though, that's what's old-fashioned about it. The internet is just the venue.

  8. You'd have to be insane to not be impressed with the young developing talent. The upperclassmen and coaches need to learn to trust these freshmen offensively. I thought Shields had a really solid game. He was unselfish, played great defense, and played within himself. When he does that, we get a lot more open looks and contributions from other players. That's how he played in the first half against IU and we were the better team that half. Our young guys (Mcveigh, Watson, Morrow at the rim) are capable of scoring the ball. They need to start thinking of themselves as weapons and stop playing like sidekicks. Shields is a much better utility guy within the offense than straight up scorer. AW3 is a phenomenal scorer within the offense because he's such an incredible shooter. He's going to be much more efficient if we're all sharing the ball and moving because he's nothing special off the dribble. I'm really encouraged with what I saw. It was good to see multiple contributions for the duration of the game instead of just one half.

  9. Lots of good pts - regarding Hammond & Webster, I noticed something yesterday. Hammond fumbled that pass in the 1st half, and then followed it up with 3 more quick errors. It looked like he was trying so hard to make up for the 1st mistake that he made 3 more immediately. You could just see it in his body language when he was standing on the FT lane right after that. He's lacking confidence. Almost the same thing with Tai - he had a few missed layups, passed up some open shots. He then made a couple layups late, but you could see it in his body language too that he was thinking about the misses, being too tough on himself, playing tight. When Miles took Tai out for the last time with the game in hand, I think Benny and maybe Jacobson came out at the same time, and Miles greeted them as they came to the bench. The first two guys slapped hands with Coach and kept walking down the bench. Tai came over with his head down, didn't have his hand out for Miles, and Miles had to stop him and say something to him, just as the camera cut away. He just looked like a player lacking confidence, being too tough on himself. NU needs both guys going forward and needs them to be confident and productive, so hopefully the coaches can keep working with them to focus on the positives more and let the mistakes go. It just looks to me like both of them are trying way too hard and compounding an initial mistake as a result.

  10. My dad used to question my sanity when I talked about how talented David Bowie was...then he sang Little Drummer Boy with Bing Crosby. Dad converted and finally agreed with me that he was great...strange, but a great talent.

  16. what a wuss for a coach "HUNDREDS" lol plus, when the referees blew their whistles to get people's attention, it appears to me the people on the court followed their instructions. players on the bench too. glad to see someone holds referees accountable. not to forget, the red light went off, clock showed no time left---everyone thought game was over. Winona State coach Scott Ballard acknowledged that he brought up the idea of a technical foul to the officials. “I put the bug in their ear," he told the Winona Daily News "You can’t have people storming the floor before the game is over. That’s interfering with the conclusion of the game. There were hundreds of them. It wasn’t like a dozen. It was the entire student section.”

  17. Rutgers may very well be the worst team in the power conferences but we need games like that to boost the confidence of this team and some of the young guys. I think we will see them play well at home tomorrow before a rough stretch.

  19. Make progress one step at a time with this team. Step number one: stay out of the cellar. Check. Next up is a home game against another truly awful, poorly coached team: Minnesota (185 on KenPom) We need to not only win, but to play well at home to build confidence. After that, focus on beating mediocre teams.

  21. It's simple for me. I'm all for NOT being the last power conference team to win an NCAA March Madness game. After we win, I don't care who makes the tournament and/or wins games. We had a buffer with South Florida for awhile, but now it's down to two teams.

  22. New hypothetical. Let's say both Northwestern and Nebraska make the dance, there are 4 potential scenarios. Scenario #1: Nebraska has already played (and won). Do you root for Northwestern? Scenario #2: Nebraska has already played (and lost). Do you root for Northwestern? Scenario #3: Nebraska and Northwestern play at the same time. Do you root for Northwestern? Scenario #4: Nebraska plays after Northwestern. Do you root for Northwestern?

I've heard that it's 6 for the regular season and then they'll get to be a part of the adidas post season program again, which will be 2 more. So, 8 total.Any word on what the other options we haven't seen yet look like? I'd love to see the red version of the new Huskers unis. Maybe even black. Not sure we'll be seeing anything black for awhile.I've heard different.Ok, but I can guarantee you, 100%, that you won't see any this year.Again, I've heard different.Trust me. You don't like a good, old-fashioned internet pissing match? The internet is newfangled. Ergo, there is no such thing as an old-fashioned internet pissing match.

  31. Sneaky, jimmy. So, you're figuring that Collins could leave Northwestern either by choice (a better gig) or by being shown the door, whereas you are thinking Miles isn't as well-positioned at this point to receive better offers? And hence his only method of departure at this point looks like dismissal? Good way of hedging your bet.

  32. Seriously?! Mike Daum had no stars from ESPN, no stars from Rivals, nothing from Scout. Can you imagine the uproar if we'd taken him over Hammond (a three-star who flirted with the top 150) or Old Testament, who performed very well until breaking his hand. Mike Daum may be a good player as a redshirt freshman in the Summit League. But let's not pretend that Tim Miles should have taken him back when he couldn't even get a single star rating.
