  1. And I have a hunch that most are basing their opinion of Hammond on the fact that he didn't see much time this year. Might I suggest that something else was going on when Kurkowski enters the game and Hammond didn't. Maybe Hammond will be slightly more ready to go, ready to get a few more minutes in year 2.

  2. Looking at the schedule his HS team in Michigan played when he was there, he was very fortunate. His coach scheduled a lot of good nonconference games. Alot of coaches will schedule cupcakes http://southfieldchristianeagles.com/basketball/boys/varsity/schedule?season=2013%2F2014

  4. It seems like we are addressing the loss of Smith and acquiring more of a true point guard off the bench to spell for Watson. I see this as more of an acquisition for 2 years down the road, after Benny graduates. I'm speculating that they want Tai as more of 2 guard.

  5. I agree that we need something, but you can't force kids to go here. Thats the thing... you can recruit the kid, go see him, and him come see you... but at the end of the day, you can't make him come here. I think we all agree that Tim can recruit and that he is looking for certain types of players. It just sucks that we can't find a big that wants to be here, buttttt if they do not WANT to be here than I say fine and move on. We don't need anymore players that do not WANT to be here.

  6. Ron Baker is that one guy that small school guys can look at and think I can do it. Scott City has 259 students class 3A Is he one in a thousand? Yes, but so could be Bakari. Besides after tomorrow he will be a Husker and I will like him even more.

  7. I know we need bigs, but we need good players. If he's a good player, I'll be thrilled because we lacked quality depth last season.

  8. And we beat teams like Quinnipiac, Holy Cross, etc for Tarin Smith who played at one of the best HS's in the country for a HOF coach that puts out top 150 talent yearly. This guy also missed the majority of his senior year at a major school, to gain more exposure, due to transfer regulations and had to settle playing for a small school for 9 games after spending 3 years at a small unknown school in Detroit. If I'm comparing the two Evelyn seemed to achieve more in getting offers with limited visibility compared to Smith that was on a very large stage.

  10. An excerpt: “They just said they need people who can contribute right away and help the team in any way,” Evelyn said. “They like my feel for the game, my ability to score or pass to find the right guy and just make the right plays. I’m about winning.” Wish he was about to grow 7 inches.

My favorite transfer name of all time is on that list. I mean of course this guy is leaving his team. Wanaah Bail, 6-9, F, Soph., UCLA He just wants to bail.

  12. I think the players who are going are the obvious ones. Benny and Terran arrived at UNL together. Tai and Terran got real close working out together last summer. The freshmen haven't been around as long, and it's no big secret that Terran and Walt weren't exactly BFFs. What about Shavon? Is it safe to assume he has class or are there issues with him and Terran? I would read zero into who can make it and who can't.

  14. I think I'll check in on his career at Georgia from time to time to see if we missed out on anything. Wouldn't surprise me if he transferred early though.

  15. Wasn't Big Country Bryant Reeves from a really small town and school? I think the competition in class A in Nebraska is better than the poster above thinks. Nebraska schools seem to hold their own against some of the top prep schools in the nation when they play them and do well against schools in other states.

  16. Agree here. Some are focusing so much on what we lack and who left rather than the brand new load of ball players coming in and who we still have left on the roster. The help we have coming is quite impressive.

  17. One further comparison, enrollment at Bakari Evelyn's Michigan high school is listed at 203. That's about the same as Wahoo. So, from an enrolment comparison, his team's win over Pioneer would be equivalent to Wahoo beating Omaha Central. That puts an entirely new perspective on the he-only-played-at-a-small-school tidbit.

  18. Kind of how we would feel if we played them in any other sport but men's basketball correct?

  19. Swan, those numbers seem to be pretty accurate. Those 4 teams you listed are pretty good. Southfield Lathrup is decent too...and Romulus, even tho it was only a scrimmage, is one of the best teams in Class A

  20. 'Nova and Nebraska have met two times historically with the Wildcats winning in 1987-88 season and 1998-99.

  21. There are some very talented Class D teams in michigan, but the majority of the teams arent very good. I would say 70-80 percent of the teams he would have played during the regular season would be pretty low talent. Luckily since his team was consistently in the state championship, he would have the opportunity to play the top teams in the class. Also i think he played travel basketball for The Family, which has typically been one of the better AAU teams in the state

  22. Not going 13-18 and losing your last 9 games would be a good start. Our face plant this year is going to make recruiting that much harder for this staff going forward.

  26. Can somebody explain how they do the match-ups in this series? In other similar agreements...they appear to match teams from the upper end v. upper....and lower v. lower. Here is last year's 1st against tail end....and at Villanova. Strange...good challenge for us...nothing to gain for them. We got'em right where we want them - low expectations to win the game. I'll take those odds!

  30. We return 2 players with starting PG experience, plus we add Watson. So, we'll have Sr. Benny Parker, Jr. Tai Webster, and Fr. Glynn Watson. We need a big dude, and we need another guy who can light it up. That's what I think, but the coaches obviously know better. I'm just acknowledging that I'm confused. Tai didn't play PG last year & Benny is a SR. What's the problem with "possibly" adding a PG?? Of course NU needs a 'big'; that isn't the concern being pointed out here. Guards are the play-makers in college ball. BTW, I'd also like NU to find a really good transfer who's a scorer to replace Shavon (and Terran?) next season.

  31. I think this is great! If you play for Nebraska you definitely welcome a challenge like this.

  32. Normy, maybe the coaches are anticipating another slot opening up very, very soon (which may happen sooner than hoped for)?? Even with the way it is today, I think the PG spot is a position of need. Guard play is what typically rules in college basketball. Glynn Watson can't carry the load for the next 4 years (yes, Benny will be around for one more season). I really like that the coaches are trying to find a good PG to complement Glynn & the two of 'em can duke it out, so to speak, for the next several years.

  33. LOL! This is...we have to beat them first. We had our best shot this past season. Until we beat them and beat them and beat them...I'm not sure we can get too excited. I am MORE than ready to run off a string of wins against those miserable Catholics, I can barely remember our last W. Actually, they're Jesuits. Really, it's not quite the same thing. Close, but ... they're sorta like your cousins from Missouri who you know are technically related to you but you prefer not to claim them. It's kinda like that. St. Ignatius of Loyola might be a bit disappointed and confused to see what the Society of Jesus has become.
