    HOLY SH...!!!

That was one of the grittiest, grinding win I've ever seen a Nebraska team get. Unreal to pull this one out today!

Yes, probably by the letter of the rules it could be called you're right.  But they haven't called traveling like that in forever so it's whatever to me.

But you're right about the Derrick body slam...that was almost as bad as Grant Gibbs.

And too your point very true, it hasn’t been called in forever.  Which is why I’m definitely not falling on that sword haha.  It looked like the old school flying elbow from the “MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE!!!  OH YEAH, DIG IT!!!”

Just finished watching the game this morning in my hotel room in frosty Tucumcari, New Mexico (16 degrees 🥶) and I have a couple of thoughts.

1).  We were INCREDIBLY lucky to win that thing.  We should have, by all rights, lost by 25.  But we didn't and any win over Wisconsin and the shittiest fanbase in all of sports™ is a very welcome one.

2).  Maybe an unpopular opinion but I honestly didn't have much of a problem with the reffing in the game.  The block/charge call against Derrick was a bad one and they missed what should have been an over and back call on Wisconsin and didn't reverse the call where the ball clearly went off the Wisconsin dude's fingers...but other than that, not egregious IMO.  Yes Alonzo earned that T.

3).  Really like what I'm seeing, leadership wise, from our young guys.  Breidenbach and McPherson are both very active on the bench and engaged fully, and CJ is showing a lot of poise in games.  With those guys and Derrick coming back, that's a core that we could build on.  (But don't @  me @Norm Peterson I'm not sipping any kool aid.  We may still struggle next year to get over .500, I'm just saying these guys are starting to show signs of effort and knowing what the hell they are doing out there and that has me liking them a lot more as of late). But man we're gonna miss Verge something fierce I'm afraid.  Maybe we'll manage to pull an actual PG out of the transfer portal again this offseason.

Man, I totally disagree with 1 and 2. If we hit open threes and not got bent over by the refs we win by double digits. Didn’t think we got lucky at all. The refs have been discussed and I agree with the other 99% who thought they blew ass.

Are you implying that 45 feet of continuation is too much?  Surely he was gathering to shoot at midcourt.

Not much to imply. The only thing that college refs love more than looking at monitors is calling fouls on the floor.

Complete insanity.  And he DID get fouled.  This was also after BS calls on the other end.

And no way should Trey have been thrown out.

The overturned charge was bad too.

I actually thought the rest of the game was officiated pretty well.  Refs tend to miss a few calls each game, but those three were colossally biased, unfortunately.

Proud of the team for out-toughing Wiscy.  Verge has gone from bane to baller... kid may very well play in the league.

They did.  Watch it again, the whistle blew immediately after he tripped.

I did. Listened for it. Both had made it to the lane and were starting to go up. Trey, looked to me, to pull back when he registered there was a whistle but it was too late to pull back completely. Felt the F1 would have been appropriate, not an F2.

All the ppl who say McGowens and Zo don't like each other need to watch this video.

I think there may have been friction early in the season, but that's a thing of the past now.

Totally agree on this point. The injury to Trey hampered Zo for that 15-game stretch. There are the Yin and Yang of Nebrasketball offensively and defensively. Bryce is learning habits from both those dudes tbh.

Correct me if I'm wrong but one thing Verge is doing that he wasn't doing earlier is hitting the guy spotted up in the corner for 3.

Not just the corner but the weakside wing or slot or whatever nomenclature Fred is using for the spots in between the top of the key and the corner. Yes, I agree, he's kicking the ball out more now than he was previously. And that makes the P&R more deadly with Walker.

One thing really noteworthy about Alonzo is that his change of direction makes him as good as we've had for a very long time at attacking a zone. You try to collapse on Alonzo to prevent penetration and you're leaving someone open. And he's finding them.

Agree - but I also think a large part of that is those guys are finally paying attention to spacing and getting themselves in places where he has the opportunity to pass it to them.    Early in the year the perimeter spacing was terrible and kicking it out often was not a viable option.

And they would miss the shot.

These 2 thoughts show me you are suffering from a serious lack of red meat. You're morphing into a vegetarian Creighton fan.  Eat the damn steaks before it's too late!  😉

We were down 9 on the road with 5+ to go.

Verge fouls out giving Chucky 3 FTs and he missed two and we're up 1.

Wiicher missed the front end of a 1-1 to give Wisky the ball back and Chucky misses a wide open 3.

No luck at all.  It's called Divine Providence!

I hate to interrupt this lively debate but: WE-WON-THE-GAME. We went into Madison on Senior Day with one of the greatest players in program history out of the lineup & BEAT the Badgers! Like my long dead Daddy used to say, “some people would Bi**h if you hung em with a new rope”…

No bitching here.  But back to Divine Providence for just a second.  I haven't rewatched the last 5+ minutes of the game, but yesterday watching the game, I couldn't believe how many close range shots the Badgers missed.  It was like there was a lid on the basket.  Also, after those misses, the Huskers came out with a rebound many times this season, they never got.  They were meant to win that game.  No idea what that means going forward....

One thing I’ve noticed is that, Zo especially, is making more of his FT line pull ups and tougher jumpers.  Definitely will need that to continue this week.  Everything is easier when you make shots.

I have no stats to back this up, but it almost feels like Fred gave guys a bit more of a green light to shoot the 10 to 15 ft 2 pointer the past few weeks. Bryce is doing this more too. Rather than demanding a 3 or layup, he's living with the mid-range 2s. (Probably not the fall away mid-range 2s, but the good 2s in rhythm.) That also may be opening up the overall offense a bit more too.

Actually Chucky only missed one FT but I get your point. Watching the replay of Chucky's missed 3, he was starting to run back down the court to celebrate his second game winner in a row. Thankfully for us it didn't go.

This and he has laid off the fadeaway floaters when he can't get all the way to the rim on drives.

Definitely... It's something that drives me nuts, the analytics say to do 3s or layups, well, don't you think the opponent knows that too? Of course they do. Take what the D gives you, it's economics 101 within the game of basketball. Don't make this more complicated, if you make shots, rebound well enough, and play tough D to contest shots constantly, then the results tend to take care of themselves. Another point I've noticed is the sheer joy they're playing with, it's almost like the fellas thought Freddy was 'dead man walking' until Trev Alberts gave the "all clear" signal. The team has been freed up to BALL OUT. Seriously, WHY NOT US?!
