This will be a tough recruit to land, he as enough other options with his talent.  But its time for coach Miles to step up to the plate for a legit big man.  Here is his chance.  A transfer that would normally have 15-20 offers has one week to decide.

We cannot play small ball in the B1G.  We have no center.

No excuses, no more waiting until next time.  Its time for coach Miles to show he is serious about being a successful power five head coach.

It's time to put up or shut up, in other words.

asu already has a 4 star big for 2016 and are apparently a favorite to get thon maker.

gonzaga has 6 players over 6'9 returning.

if playing time is elijah's #1 goal then nebraska, clemson, and san diego should be his top 3.

I always like when some make it sound like Miles isn't trying to land a big. Some of the comments on here make me chuckle. Can't force em to come here fellas.

I think most recognize the staff has tried and is trying to land a big man....but sooner or later you have to land one that can help you win in the Big Ten.  And it appears we need one that can help ASAP.  This is a big opportunity for the staff and program...hopefully they can deliver.

Yep, I hear ya! If he wasn't even sending out offers or shooting the transfer market, it would be a different story.

I'm not saying he wouldn't help us out, I'm not saying he wouldn't play for us right away. He would. But to everyone saying he would be an immediate stud difference maker, that's throwing huge expectations on the shoulders of a guy who couldn't crack the rotation for A&M

Sub Kansas for A&M and that's exactly what the blue doofuses up the road said about Andrew White.

I'm pretty satisfied with what AW3 has brought to the table for us so far.

Even if he isn't the savior right away, he would keep the "big" man grumblings at bay for a bit. We have to remember he would be coming in as a RFr next conference season.

Also keep in mind he was injured and lost out on time and reps and got behind before the season began.  He's got pretty good size and athleticism, but the guy he's battling against for PT has even better size and athleticism.  But that guy isn't transferring; this guy is.

So, if we can't get the #28 recruit in the nation because he's getting playing time and not transferring, I guess I'd settle for the #29 recruit in the nation who isn't getting playing time and is transferring.

Is this right? I think guys who transfer at semester cannot redshirt - I think the redshirt must occur within one academic year, not within a calendar year. Since he already played this academic year (2015-16) at TAM, he can't redshirt. And if he played for us in academic year 2016-17, he also wouldn't be able to redshirt. I could be wrong on this, but that's how I understand it.

Hopefully we have this problem because he comes here  ;) but I think when he would step on the PBA court in December 2016 he'd be a sophomore who would still have a redshirt season available.

I believe Agou at G'town is sitting out this full academic year 2015-16 because of injury so he can use a redshirt. So he'll be a junior in 2016-17. He transferred at semester in 2014-15.

Another of the top semester transfers from last year, Burton at Iowa State, is listed as a junior this year. He played 1 1/2 seasons at Marquette, sat out 2 semesters as a transfer, and now is playing. So the way I understand it he cannot count the 2 semesters he sat out as a redshirt because he played in both academic year 2014-15 (at Marquette) and 2015-16 (at Iowa St). Those 2 semesters are just lost.

Again, I could be wrong on this one, so if someone understands this better than I do, please share.

Not saying we don't want him, we obviously do. I'd settle for him too. I realize he was highly rated. It's just that some of those screaming for a big guy don't seem to understand that 99.9% of big men don't come in ready to contribute significantly right away. I've heard a lot of people, not on here too much but some, proclaim him as immediate stud difference maker. Yes, we need a big guy and he would probably play right away due to immediate gaping hole, but like Hammond or Jacobson would need some development time before reaching his potential whatever that may be.

Another way to look at it is if he comes to NU (or anywhere, really) that Eli Thomas would have the possibility of a 1-semester freshman season (2015) followed by a 1-semester sophomore season (2017), and then still have 2 full seasons to complete his eligibility. Or, if  E.T. chooses, besides sitting out the remainder of 2016 spring semester he could also redshirt during the entire 2016-17 season, and then have 3 years to play 3 seasons from 2017-2020.

Pretty sure you're right. I may have jumped the gun. I do think he would be welcomed in by many fans and would help fill the "big" that we are lacking.

Huh...I think I had that all wrong. Looks like Luke Fischer, who transferred mid-season, is a Junior after 3 years and sitting out one.

You either have to be pretty fickle and/or things have to be pretty bad because you're essentially losing a year when you do this.

Agreed - guys who transfer at semester are at a big disadvantage vs summer transfers in that they basically lose a full year, so things have to be really bad at the current school. Doesn't really seem fair. If the NCAA is going to allow players to become eligible in December after a semester transfer, they probably should also allow them to get that year back, just like a summer transfer. Or maybe move hoops to a full 2nd semester sport - start around Christmas time and have a "May Madness."  ;)

So if you're a player transferring in December, you'd better transfer to a school where you know you're going to get playing time for certain, which probably beats sitting on the bench the back half of the 2015-16 season at your current school and then transferring in the summer & sitting another full year. I guess you get on the floor a semester earlier, even though you end up only "playing" 3 seasons/6 semesters instead of 4/8.

Ergo, Thomas should pick NU.  ;)

So you're saying the NCAA is in the business of screwing over student-athletes?!?  I can't believe what I'm reading...

Actually, if he was injured and played in less than 30% of games he could potentially get this year back if he was injured enough that he couldn't play the rest of the season. A long shot but possible since he only played in 8 games and has was actually injured.

Maybe he is "injured" enough that he could get a medical redshirt

That would work if we wanted him to play in 2 years
