IF, and it's a BIG IF, Nebr were to have the opportunity to land both players, what is the chance Will pays for Shavon's final year for the good of the team?

I know this has been discussed before, but aren't there measures in place to make sure this kind of stuff doesn't happen? Doesn't the NCAA combat this kind of thing? Otherwise this kind of stuff would go on all the time.

If there were such measures in place, Creighton has been abusing the ever-living hell out of them in the past few years...

How about even if Max Does come here! thumbsup.gif

i don't believe we can have both.

I would prefer paschal. I think max might make us 1-2 games better for the upcoming season, but paschal could be an nba center with a year of development and we would possibly get 3 full seasons of him.

We can have both.

One would have to pay his own way.

It's happened before.

Or we pull someone scholarship. If both want to come, it would be a very good scenario for us with one getting to play this year and the other getting to play the following year.
Its hard enough recruiting to NU as it is. Pulling a scholarship at this point would definitely hurt more in the long run than us getting these two guys.

Doug McDermitt was a walk-on his senior year so they could open up another scholarship.  NCAA don't care how you do it as long as you are under the scholarship limit.

Just curious why you think it would hurt more in the long run?  You trade a guy like Benny Parker or Jacob Hammond for a guy that is a better player and benefits the program long term, how does that hurt?

You trade a guy like Benny Parker

No man, you don't. At what point does everyone realize that the only way Benny is leaving here is after 4 years on scholarship and that this fact isn't a negative? I don't know that BP plays more minutes but I expect him to fill a leadership void left by losing so many upperclassmen and bringing in so many new faces.

Not only that it's kind of a d*%k move. It sets a bad precedent to any future recruits that at any time we could pull their scholarship if someone better comes along. This is not Indiana, we cannot do Spring Creaning.

Redrum touched on it but it would really hurt our recruiting in the fact that we are already behind the 8 ball with location to recruits.  If you start cutting guys it will be used against Miles in recruiting by other coaches, on top of that you could be black balled by HS and AAU coaches that are involved with the cut player in some form.  If you're a top school it will get out there and people will make a stink which happens yearly but they can recover from it.  NU doesnt have the same luxury to burn any bridges.

Missouri got Stan Kroenke's to pay his own way after a couple years so that it free'd up a ship.

we have to get one of them before we can start figuring out how to get both.

Exactly. Getting both would be a great challenge/opportunity to be faced with at this point in time. Right now, neither are a part of Nebrasketball.

He's also persona non grata around St. Louis these days too, I'd imagine.

I suppose this is one of those "we can cross thazt bridge IF we ever get there" kinds of things.

Would we clear roster space to get (Rivals 5-star and currently uncommitted) Thon Maker?

Should we hypothetically ask Nick Fuller to walk-on in the event Thon Maker picked up the phone tomorrow and said, "Coach Miles, I'm N"?

Kinda pointless discussion considering how far-fetched that would be.

So, until we get at least ONE of either Bielfeldt or Chukwu to commit, we probably don't need to concern ourselves overly much on how we'd manage to land them both.

But it is a message board, so ...

Wait.. Are you saying we are going to get Biefeldt, Chukwu and Maker and have to clear up 2 scholarships?

Ok.. i will allow it.

Only because Diamond Stone is already committed elsewhere.  But, hey, silver lining there as we at least won't need to free up 3 schollies.

Will Nebrasketball lands 7-2 C Paschal Chukwu as he transfers from Providence? How desperate are teams in CBB for big men? Why is there such a shortage now of skilled post players in basketball? Can Nebraska play small and be successful? Tim Miles gets an extension, the raise is significant, will that help players buy into the program?

Scouting Paschal Chukwu - The Only Colors

Michigan State is one of a few teams that 7’2" 226 Providence transfer Paschal Chukwu will visit. Per Jon Rothstein he plans to visit Kansas and Nebraska in early June, and the Virginia and MSU visits are TBD. Since Caleb Swanigan has decommitted from MSU, the Spartans have an extra scholarship that they can now use. While many thought Jonathan Williams III was a strong candidate for that spot, he was reported to have trimmed his list to Gonzaga, SMU, and Georgetown. With Matt Costello set to graduate after next year, the 2016-17 MSU frontcourt (as of now) will likely consist of Gavin Schilling, Deyonta Davis, and Nick Ward. While that’s not bad, adding a 4th big like Chukwu will allow Ward to not have to be forced into action during his freshman year and it gives MSU a "big" security blanket (so to speak) as MSU’s only offer to a 2017 big is 6’8" PJ Washington from Texas.
