twinswingohuskers Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 I think that Shavon should redshirt this next year, so that hopefully with our freshman and sophomores getting some playing time next year the team will have a chance to finish at .500 or better in the Big 10 in 2016-2017. At this point next year looks like it is close to hopeless for a finish above ninth or tenth. aphilso1, Minnesota_Husker, Norm Peterson and 5 others 1 7 Quote

"Hey, we aren't going to win any games, so let's go out, play hard, and we'll see what happens next year." Thats a good way to get yourself fired real quick... but even more, a good way to lose the team. If we redshirted our best guy every year we were picked to be in the bottom half of the conference..... WE WOULD NEVER HAVE A BEST GUY. Thats like saying we should have redshirted TP when we made the run to the dance. We were picked to finish DAL Quote
Dead Dog Alley Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 Hey, it worked when we redshirted Cookie Belcher! Oh wait, no it didn't, Barry Collier came in the next year and shoe-horned a senior laden team into a system they weren't fit for, and threw away a season when Nebraska had more talent than they ever have had since. (I know, apples and oranges comparison since he was injured his fourth year.) HB 1 Quote
HuskerFever Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 Since we're on the topic of absurd, why is Miles wasting his time recruiting lower ranked players? Why doesn't he just recruit the Top 10 McDonald's All-American high school athletes? bobcat402 1 Quote
jimmykc Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 Wouldn't be the best plan if he is really serious about medical school. It takes long enough as it is and remaining an undergraduate for an extra year just makes it longer. On the other hand, if he does not want to defer significant income for another decade, he should join the pro ranks here or overseas after next year. Quote

twinswingohuskers Posted April 8, 2015 Author Report Posted April 8, 2015 This did work with Eric Piatkowski and Beau Reid when we improved from 10-18 to a #3 seed in the tournament after their redshirt season. Quote
HB Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 This did work with Eric Piatkowski and Beau Reid when we improved from 10-18 to a #3 seed in the tournament after their redshirt season. Apples to oranges. Pike was a true freshman, unlike Shavon, who is battle tested through 3 seasons of Big 10 play. You are also confusing Reid and Chubick. Reid redshirted his first year here, which was way before the 10-18 season to which you are referring. And Chubick was also a true freshman. Quote
twinswingohuskers Posted April 8, 2015 Author Report Posted April 8, 2015 Sorry about that you're right it was Chubick. I guess when you been watching these guys since Cip some of the names and teams run together. Put it down to old age. Quote

aphilso1 Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 Is this even a serious topic? I initially assumed the OP was trolling, but given the number of responses it looks like we are actually having this conversation. Quote

It's a discussion board; feel free to disagree; express an opinion of your own. But how is this any different than wishing we could bring a player back from the past to play on this or next year's team? twinswingohuskers is simply saying it's too bad we won't have Shavon one more year for when Morrow and Watson are more experienced sophomores. Why is that so wrong? Red Don and hhcmatt 2 Quote
hhcmatt Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 Re: Roster management I really like Shavon. However, I would rather have the scholarship open for next year to pick up a new recruit. Also, if Shavon doesn't play you're pressured to find a JUCO kid or a reach. I'd rather us identify Div I transfers that will help after having to sit out a year. The discussion is moot as I would imagine that Shavon is ready to either play pro ball somewhere next year or become a scientist. Quote

Why is that so wrong? I think it's because although that's what twins intended to say, that's not the way it was interpreted by others, myself included. Also, the combination of low post count and misinterpreted verbiage can be a proxy for trolling. Quote
