Minnesota_Husker Posted January 6, 2015 Report Posted January 6, 2015 If Terran goes pro, that would open up a scholarship. I have my doubts about McVeigh. Maybe it's because Tai was overhyped. Remember Aleks was from Australia and he turned out pretty well. I'm just not sure we need another wing right now. Seems that the signing of Jack McVeigh might push out Keanu Pinder next yr... (shrugs) I would be ok with Pinder being pushed out in 2016. Quote

The Polish Rifle Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 http://247sports.com/Player/Jack-McVeigh-78216 247 has the kid ranked as the #277 player in the class, and a mid level 3 star. Only ranking I think he has received to date. Quote
The Coach Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 I don't know why people think we don't need help on the wing, we need shooters almost as badly as bigs. If McVeigh is half the shooter people say he is, he will be a great addition next season. Andrew White, Terran, Shavon, Fuller and Tarin can all shoot from the wing. We need a threat inside to force the defense to collapse and open the outside for these guys. More importantly, we need a rebounding and defensive presence inside. McVeigh does not look very strong or very quick. Even if he's a good shooter, I don't think he'll be ready defensively to guard wings in the Big Ten. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 You guys are all right. He sucks, why do,we keep getting these stupid players. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. Could we at least get them here and see him on the court before we say that it was a waste of a schollie. I say welcome Jack, hope you like it here. 49r and jaimes2000 2 Quote
Swan88 Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 A bunch of naysayers on this one?!! Scheesch. Actually watch the video posted above against Bolden--a 2014 player (McVeigh is 2015), ranked the # 32 Rivals four-star (about the same size as McVeigh). Even though McVeigh's "forte" is shooting threes (when the Husker coaches visited, he hit 14 of his first 15 three-point shots--so says the Journal Star), he is quite capable in the video of taking the ball to the rim against Bolden on multiple occasions and in multiple ways--he's mixing it up big-time inside, and scoring. FredsSlacks Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 I think the majority of us are on board with this signing but are worried this leaves no room to sign a defensive big guy that we clearly need. Quote

hhcmatt Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 I think the majority of us are on board with this signing but are worried this leaves no room to sign a defensive big guy that we clearly need. We will have room. I'm not saying that I want someone or guarantee someone will leave, but in today's world it's very probable that this happens. Good or bad we're not the school who signs 14 dudes mid-season. Hopefully we have a JUCO/Grad transfer on our speed dial if/when this happens. Guys....we're playing top 25 defense with no post players right now. Having a mix of slashers and shooters seems like it would kickstart our offense a lot more than the type of big man we can land right now. Buglem and Silverbacked1 2 Quote

49r Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 Petteway going pro opens up a scholly Yeah, I'd put the odds of that happening just between slim and none. He'll be a pro, but I just don't think he's going to be leaving early. Quote
nebrasketball10 Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 Do people still think TP going pro after this year is a probability, or even a realistic possibility?? His draft analysis last year suggested he MIGHT get drafted in the late second round - but didn't put a high probability on it. It's a young season, but he certainly hasn't improved his stock to date. Quote

It's a young season, but he certainly hasn't improved his stock to date. The only possibility I see is that he is graduating this year. So he will have fulfilled his promise to his mom. Next year there will be so more options on the roster is may take away from scoring possibilities for him. Factor in there isnt that much to gain for playing the 5th year that they wouldnt already know about him considering he continues to have the same deficiencies in his game. Thats the only reasons I see for him leaving. The reasons to stay outweigh the reasons to go for now but thats the reasons why I could see it. Quote

ajb5856 Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 http://statsheet.com/mcb/players/player/nebraska/terran-petteway Points, up from last year. Assists, up. Rebounds, up. Steals, up. Blocks, up. Everything is up from last year pretty much. FG% is down 0.6% from last year. 3ptFG% is up from last year. Everything is up, up, and up. And everybody acts like he's dropped off a ton from last year. I guess everyone is remembering Petteway from the magic carpet ride and only the clutch moments from last year. The scary thing is that Petteway hasn't had the game yet where he absolutely goes off this year. Just wait until that happens. Quote
hhcmatt Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 Draws contact like no other, handles the ball (with mixed results), and is increasing that 3 pt% Really seems like it could go either way. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 Did anyone ever answer my question about whether McVeigh's graduated from HS in Australia already or not? I assume that, since this is summer for them, he'd be done, no? I wish to heck there was some way to get him in a prep school for a semester and let him play against American competition, even just in practice. He needs to learn the American game and the sooner the better. Quote

The reason the guys in the past have gone to the prep schools was because they needed the extra credits to be eligible like Bolden and Steven Adams. Quote

I believe he is going to their national academy to play on the countries' under 19 team as captain...that should get him better competition. Then he is coming here for summer school in early June. He will be workin' it! Quote
Norm Peterson Posted January 14, 2015 Report Posted January 14, 2015 He needs to learn to dribble drive like an American kid. They just don't have that art down yet down under. Not from what I've seen. Really loose with the dribble. Quote

I realize McVeigh had NBA aspirations, but I had no idea he was being projected as an NBA pick. I'm concerned about this "not raising his stock" comment, though. Does that mean he's not as good as what we thought he was? Or what? Quote
