Who do you believe was the biggest recruit in the history NU basketball that we missed out on? A player that we had a very good chance to get, but for some reason, we couldn't secure.

Ron Kellog, Bill Jackman (although we got him later when Duke didn't work out) and the legendary Roburt Sallie. Unfortunately Mr. Sallie is now legendary for being kicked off his Spanish pro team for taking male enhancement pills. He should have listened to Mr. Standhardinger who used magic to accomplish the same trick, according to rumors.

Mike Miller. Totally agree. In fact the staff thought he was ours until they showed up to the Miller household. My high school teacher had a great story about that. I think had he signed. Things would be vastly different today. Not ncaa championships, but not 16 years without a tourney game.

I have seen accounts before, that said we were Wilt Chamberlain's 2nd choice behind KU in the 1950s, but can't seem to document that online at a quick glance.

"Nate Branch, who starred for Joe Cipriano's Cornhusker teams in the mid-1960s, claimed Chamberlain once told him Nebraska had been his second choice after Kansas."

Huskers on the Hardwood by Mike Babcock page 83.  :)

I've heard that too, and if that's the case, there's only one option.

Probably didn't phrase my question clearly. I'm talking about players who had big impacts at other schools that could have been ours, not talking about their height. :)  For an example, I don't know if we sought him, but what about Bob Boozer in the 50's?

Some Nebraska guys who went elsewhere would include Mike McGee.  Dude had a little bit of game, no?

Kid was a heck of a player in High School

And college (he lead Michigan in scoring four consecutive years)...and pro (2 rings with LAL)

There was a girl we blew it on about 20 years ago, too.  Can't recall the name.  Word was she wanted to come here (from South Dakota if I remember right) but we didn't offer.  She went to CSU instead and was a freshman all-American.  So says my memory.  Anyone remember this?

Norm, that would be Becky Hammon, who went on to be an All-American, Olympian, WNBA player, etc. Truly the biggest non-offer I have known as a basketball fan. Angela Beck's biggest basketball mistake in her life. You nailed it, Norm.

"missed out on" can mean someone we just didn't get, but also from a slow-play or non-offer standpoint, as you demonstrate above. In that regard, I would have to go with Cedric Hunter as being one of the biggest. He would have helped Moe's mid 80's teams immensely. Larry Brown got the KU job late, took a chance on Cedric, whose only solid offer was UNO, and the rest is history. Not only did we not have a player who had a great career at Kansas, we had to play against him and watch it all happen.
