Both teams are talented, but underachieving.  Illinois just seems more motivated right now then Indiana.  And the Hoosiers are going to be gassed when we come to town.

C. Both equally as likely.

Not one of the options.  Flip a coin, then and tell me which one got heads.

This is a message board, damn it! The options are my oyster.

What say you all?

Norm, I like your post some time ago that you like our chances with any one. Wish there was a third choice both. Sorry for the reminder. We will either win both or I will believe they, us weren't up to it. I like our chances with street ball if I had to. tux

I'm glad you liked my wording, Norm. I voted for Indiana who has better players but seems to be falling apart like their building. And while we are on random, meaningless topics, I got to watch a couple of interesting games between Big 10 action. I tuned in UAB vs NC Charlotte to hate on Fahro for awhile but saw him make the winning goal which probably helped raise our RPI a little. It was also nice to see that Jerod Hasse has been able to blimp up so well in Alabama since his old playing days at KU. Then, Calipari's bunch was ably to stumble and bumble to an OT win and help push LSU a bit further from that mythical bubble. Got to hustle back to the sofa now.

Illinois has 7 days to prepare for us at home.

Indiana has 6 days to prep for us.
Their Iowa game got rescheduled right before their game against us IIRC.

Yep. They had 8 days before that.

Indiana plays OSU on March 2. We're their next opponent on March 5 (they have March 3, 4, and 5 to prepare their game plan against us).

Illinois played Minnesota on February 19. We're their next opponent on February 26 (they have February 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26 to prepare their game plan against us).

In short: Indiana has 3 days; Illinois has 7 days.

My bad. Was looking at Big Ten games for each day on ESPN's scores page and they didn't have the IU/OSU game listed. Worldwide leader my butt!!

OK, here's my take.  Having time to prepare vs. being possibly fatigued gives us an advantage against Indiana (or gives Illinois more of an advantage against us.)

Illinois has 5 guys averaging close to or over 30 minutes/game and the biggest threat by far is Rayvonte Rice.  Terrific player.  Can score in a variety of ways and hurt you doing a lot of things.  But he's just one guy.  Their center, Egwu, is an athletic guy but doesn't give them a lot of points and, really, not a lot of rebounds for 30 minutes/game, being as big and tall and athletic as he is.

Aside from Rice, Illinois only has one other guy averaging double figures in scoring and that's another guard, Tracy Abrams.  When we played them at home, I was really impressed with Rice but kind of underwhelmed with everyone else, frankly.  This team is beatable.  I think we are good enough to win this one on the road.

Indiana I think is a tougher out.  Even though they'll have less time to prepare for us, they've got a lottery pick inside in Vonleh and a player of the year candidate in Yogi Ferrell.   But they only have about three guys who can really hurt you on a consistent basis and, outside of Ferrell, they're really not a very good perimeter team.  But they have a good inside/outside combo in Ferrell and Vonleh and I'd have to honestly say I worry more about facing the Hoosiers on the road than the Illini.

Having said all of that, this is a different Nebraska team this year.  We just keep getting better and better as the year goes on and guys figure out and buy into their roles.  A couple of weeks ago, I said I wished Shavon would start looking more aggressively for his offense.  And, by George, he's done exactly that.  To the point that we have a very tough, two-headed monster in Shields and Petteway.  I think we could very well win both of these road games because, dammit, we're just flat out a better team than we've been in 15 years.

In fact, I'll say it right now:  I think we do win at least one of these and I think most likely we beat Illinois.

Then, winning out at home including a win against Wisconsin will put us over the bubble and into tournament lock territory.

We don't have to "luck" into it.  We don't have to "hope" into it.  This year, we are just better.  I think we're better than Illinois and I think we're better than Indiana and we get Wisconsin at home.  Period.

Honestly.... There is a real chance we get to 20 and 10. Unlike previous years, I am not worried about the uppcomming game. I have seen enough of this team to say they can compete with ANYONE. Sure we are young, but we are only getting better. I'm on the Norm boat, I think we get that monkey(s) off our back this year.

We have TWO guys who can score at the rim AND from beyond the arc.  And both of them are also starting to show some mid-range ability as well.  Hubba frickin' hubba.  Other teams are lucky to have just one of those guys.  We have two!  What Matt Painter said about a 6'6" (he said 6'7" -- maybe that's what he'd be if he was on Purdue's roster) guards who can do what they do.

Our weakness is being able to defend a good post and rebound.  Only Indiana has shown strong post play.  But even the Indiana guy, we've been successful throwing doubles and harassing the post-entry.  I think we could get two Ws in our two remaining road games.

Can you wish that Rey would start hitting half his 3-point attempts? Thanks.

A couple of weeks ago, I said I wished Shavon would start looking more aggressively for his offense.  And, by George, he's done exactly that.

I predict Rey will go off in a game away from the PBA.  For whatever reason, it seems to happen that way.  Don't know if it will be against Illinois, Indiana, the B1G Tourney, or in the 3rd Round of the NCAA's but it will happen.

I would say that Wisconsin has shown strong post play.  Frank Kaminsky has been fantastic the last couple weeks and he is a true post now, not just an outside shooter like at the beginning of the year.
