- Solid road win. We needed that.

- That said, that first half, was awful. Literally fell asleep watching it.

- Petteway and Pitchford stole the show in the second half.

- Parker's contributions were key today.

- Loved the wide smile after Petteway nailed the 3 in the last minute.

- Good toughness to not fold after giving up the eight point lead.

- 1 assist, 3 turnovers from Tai. Needs to keep making progress.

- Quiet game from Gallegos, again.

- Shields did some good things, but still need more from him.

- I think in a game like this, you can say that about almost everyone.

- I think Dave summed it up best:

Didn't get to watch the game. Followed via

Live stats. Nerve racking down the stretch when they tied it up. Pitchfords game appears to be improving. Glad we got him two more years. If he further improves his inside good he will be a Pugh matchup. Glad we got the road monkey off our back. Now on to Illinois who is not good but capable of beating us if we don't play well. The Vault should be rocking Wednesday!

All i got to say is I will be much more interested in watching the rest of the B1G games this weekend now.   :D

Yeah, that 16-point 1st half was brutal for our Huskers, glad Nebraska's offensive 2nd half was not in any way as "off"-fensive as 1st half...

now watching Iowa stomping the livin' daylights out of Mythagain 63-41 w/ 11 min left.

I don't care right now how ugly it was, we won.

I almost thought this game was going to turn into a Penn State 2.0.

It was definitely heading that direction.. but, then Pitch & Petteway knocked down a bunch of shots to get out from under that 1st-half funk. Shields & Parker also had some nice steals & conversions in that 2nd half.

Once again, the tale of two halves.

The first half was fugly.  Flat out terrible.  That is at least three games in a row...we need to get outta that funk.

The second half was much better.  Again, good adjustment.  But the difference in intensity was amazing.

- Benny played well.  He shouldn't replace Tai, but he provided a defensive shot in the arm.

- David Rivers played well.  He is getting just about the right number of minutes.

- Tai was okay...remember, he is playing PG and is attempting to master the US game.  It continues to be a work in progress.

- Shavon was a bit hit and miss.  Overall, a good game, but dude, you have to hit your free throw.

- Leslee is hurting.  Sorry, you can tell.  Hopefully he can provide valuable minutes down the stretch.

- Nathan...kind of a non-event.  But what a wild three point shot.  Wowser

- Ray did okay.  Good defense, very, very spotty on the offensive side.

- Walter...nice game my friend.  His shooting was what we needed.  Thank you.  He is never going to excel in the post, but thank goodness for what he brought to the floor today.

- Terran forced himself into a good game today.  He struggled, but he came through sufficiently enough to carry us to a road win.

Again, not very darn pretty.  Yet we did what we had to...and on the road, that was sweet.  By the way...Noah, what did you think?  I saw you in the Big Red helmet; but I caught you cheering both ways...and I know that is what you are all about, not a negative nellie, rather a supporter of your team...Had to be a bit confusing for you today :)

  • Parker was great today, playing to his strengths - on ball defense and strong transition game. His ability to take Demps out of the game - along with NU's decision to double him off all screens - was huge. Demps was basically a non-factor. Plus Parker gave us a couple of transition layups that were big in the 2nd half.

Really just took NU a half to figure out how to take advantage of all of the switches NW was doing defensively. Pitchford was able to take advantage of Olah being a bit slow afoot in the 2nd half.

Too many out of rhythm 3s in the first half, we did a better job getting 3s in the offensive flow in the 2nd half, which occurred in large part because we did a much better job getting in the lane

Petteway just wants to win more than anyone else on the floor, and he has the skills to make sure it happens

I'm glad we have 3 off days before Illinois comes to Lincoln - this was a very physical, defense oriented game which really wears a team down, although I'm sure the guys will be full of energy on the plane ride home after finally getting a road win

I thought Bennies five points was a difference maker. I have been critical of him on the offensive end but today he scored on the break which is his forte if he has one.

In the half court, when we had Parker, Rivers, Shields, Gallagos and Pitchford in, it was like playing 3 on 5 basketball. It seemed to me that in the second half the guys had been told to play aggressively on offense to create open looks and they did for the most part. Good, ugly win!

It was definitely confusing and tearing me down the middle.  I was impressed with both teams making sure that the game was always within reach, but both teams really struggled with the offense.  First to fifty indeed won.

And my helmet for Nebraska-Northwestern games is not my original hard hat, but a custom-made one with Nebraska on one side and Northwestern on the other.

I think the timing of those points were critical too making them even more impressive.

What was with that Webster inbound? Was that how the rules are written , that it is a live ball when the ref Bounces it? That was real strange that he never had control of it. First time I have seen that.

Expanding on that thought, I noticed too that the Northwestern mascot was allowed to get WAY too close to our guys on their inbounds plays a couple of times.  Seems like if the man taking the ball out tried to run the baseline he might have run into the mascot.

I'm not sure that should be allowed.

Valentine would have called it a charge.

True :D  - not sure we got a 50/50 call after the Rivers block against the backboard with 6 min to go. NW's #34 started throwing hips, elbows, chairs, whatever he could while setting screens the rest of the way and got away with all of them. Odd to see, especially after Petteway had the 2 offensive "fouls" earlier in the game.

Davison said on the radio during the pre game that the NW fans behind him who he was talking with before the game were very pleased to see that officiating crew, as they tended to call the game in a way that played to NW's strengths. Can't say I'd argue with them.

I am completely with you on this one.  In all my days, I have never seen anything like that.  NU was inbounding the ball under the hoop.  The ref was initially right next to Tai, but rather than just handing Tai the ball, he starting walking away from him, then threw a bounce pass to Tai.  The ball bounced off Tai's hands straight into the NW players hands.  Tai never had control of the ball whatsoever.  Seriously?  Is this really the rule.  Isn't the ref supposed to hand the ball to the player?  After it happened Tai looked at the ref like "what in the heck just happened"

Surely the ball isn't supposed to be live until the inbounding player secures it, right?  I mean, what if the ref threw an errant pass at Tai's ankles and it squibbed off him and into the court.  Is that a "live" ball?

I am too lazy, but I would love for someone to look up that rule b/c I am befuddled at that call.

The NBA rule is here.

Doesn't really say anything about how the official should give the ball to the inbounding player, but it says this: The throw-in starts when the ball is at the disposal of a player entitled to the throw-in.

I have to agree, I've never seen anything quite like it. Sometimes a player will sort of fumble the ball when trying to inbound it, but it's usually after he has started to try to pass it, then chooses to pull it back, and loses the handle. That's not what appeared to happen today though.

It still drives me crazy that we blew those games at Penn State and at Purdue.

Gotta forget about it man... Yeah it stings but we can't change it. Gotta do what we can do, and that is win.

I think if we win both we might not work hard enough to beat OSU and Minn. Those close loses maybe made us better in the long run.
