I think there is room for Nebraska kids but we had to fire Doc partially because he was taking guys without a whole lot of high-major interest and trying to coach them up

Except Doc tried to do that with ALL his recruits. That's not what Miles is doing. He's going to have four to six guys on the roster that are very high end talent that allows you to develop a handful of kids like Wingett or Strom.

We, the fans, are entitled to use hindsight.

Did any fans on this message board have Mike Daum anywhere on their radars prior to a couple of days ago?  I'm interested in seeing the posts from people saying we should offer him.

I remember hearing about him his junior year when I was looking to see what state tournament games to possibly go to. I did not ever see him play, I have a friend who went to their state tournament game his senior year who wasn't real impressed that day (he wanted to play on the perimeter instead of taking advantage inside - a common problem for kids who want to showcase their versatility instead of dominating inside.)

His uncle Mark started at linebacker in 83/84 alongside Knox and Munford - so there was a family history at UNL. I read that he was a Wyoming commit, I don't know what happened there that he ended up at SDSU, both his parents went to Wyoming. His dad was on the Oiler's roster for a year in the 1980s.  And that's all I remember about him from a couple years ago.

+1 (is that even still a thing?)

And there's no reason they can't do that the other Norfolk kid, Strom. I'd get David Wingett from Winnebego on board, too. He's putting up 27 points a game. I'd love to see those two in the 2017 class.

Or what about the leading scorer in the state, Bart Hiscock from Bennington, he's putting up 28 and 8, oh, and he's 6' 8" 225 and he's a senior. He can shoot, rebound and runs the floor well. You're telling me that kid can't contribute in a couple of years?

With one Nebraska kid already in the fold for 2017, and if that team is as good as a lot of people think it can be, I think there'd be room for Arop, Strom and Wingett to recruit and develop. It'd be unlikely that they play much anyway.

I always see Hiscock being listed at 6'6". I'd have to assume that the reason he's not getting major looks is concern that he's not at that level athletically - I don't know, I haven't seen many highlights of him - but he's obviously a good player.

I know that Strom really wants to go to Nebraska. He's got enough size for that level, (it would be better if he grew another inch or so), has good hands, great touch, exceptional footwork - but, as far as speed, quickness, leaping ability, isn't going to wow anybody. So I don't know how good of a chance he has at getting an offer.

A new name to keep an eye on. According to Nebraska hoops Northern Iowa has been in touch with Kanon Koster a G/F from Kearney High in class of 2018. He is the son of Doug Koster aka Mr. Basketball.

Koster is solid, especially for only being a sophomore.  Never really dominates a game but is just very smooth and doesn't really get rattled. Very under control and has a nice overall game.

Great pick up for ND State. I'm really shocked he was not offered. That kid can flat out play.

You're shocked that he wasn't offered here? Or at NDSU?

I would imagine that imnothipp meant 'anywhere'...

I would agree with that. Kid looked pretty smooth.

Sorry I was not more clear. I meant offered by NDSU. I thought for sure he would be offered by most of the Summitt League Teams.  I thought he would be an excellent pick up by NU as a walk on. I saw him put up 40 last year against Elkhorn South.  Saw him again this year. Great point guard skills.

Really impressive player, but foot speed was an issue. When I watched him, he looked like he had really big feet, kind of like a kid who's going to grow several more inches. (I didn't measure his feet, that's just the way he looked. :) )

Anyway, NDSU is a decent program, and he could develop into a solid player.

I'm saying it right now: if he blows up at NDSU, Miles should have offered him.

Omaha Central has agreed to play Winnebago (Chandler and Behrens against the Indians' Wingett) in the 2016-17 basketball season.#nebpreps

There is some talk of a double header with Omaha South v Norfolk at the same site.  Not sure if it will happen but a possibility right now. If it does you could watch Arop, Wingett, Strom, Chandler and Behrens all at once.
