NUdiehard Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 Robin Washut @RobinWashut8m Expect #Nebrasketball to have the same starting five Friday night as it did vs UNK: Webster, Petteway, Shields, Pitchford and Smith. I would rather he start Rivers instead of Smith. If both Smith and Pitchford start, this means there likely will be times when both Smith and Pitchford are on the bench at the same time. This leaves leaves us with a very small lineup on the floor. I would rather Rivers start and then Smith come in to spell Pitchford/Rivers. I wouldn't be opposed at all to Peltz getting minutes. I wouldn't even mind if he started. But that is just my opinion. Maybe Miles feels he can balance the minutes such that either Pitchford or Smith will be on the court at all times. If so, then this could work. Quote

I think Pitchford can go longer than Smith, so if you used Rivers to spell Smith, and then Smith to spell Pitchford, you could use fuller to spell Rivers with Peltz being another guard off bench. It could work. Quote
hhcmatt Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 So did Ray sit out Monday due to this incident too?? or was he really hurt? According to Miles, no. Quote
hhcmatt Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 Jordan left to focus on school Um, yeah. Probably time to do that, huh? This being, like, his 4th year with the basketball program and all. In other words, I don't buy that as being the reason. Jordan also has a daughter, and this just gives him more time to focus on school and his personal life. I've known Jordan personally since we were kids and I can almost guarantee it wasn't due to disciplinary issues Miles alluded to this as well "I support Jordan in this," Miles said. "He and I have had a couple of heart-to-hearts over the last few days, and Jordan's moving on. I support him and look forward to helping him make sure he gets his college degree." Quote

I think we should try and ease the load on Smith as much as possible in non conference play. It'd break my heart to see another Balham. I have faith that Peltz can do what Benny can do. I think it will be fine with either of them in the game. Quote
atskooc Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 Wasn't Parker somewhat injured last year? If he's healthy, he should be a bit of a better contributor this year. Quote
hhcmatt Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 Miles has stated he was looking at a 8-9 man rotation...which gets easy enough to figure out for Game 1 The Eight Webster Petteway Shields Smith Pitchford Parker Rivers Fuller #9 is Peltz #10.5 is Surge Quote

nustudent Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 Some may think I'm weird...but I'd start Peltz. Move Tai to 2. Start Petteway at 3 and Shields at 4 and then Smith or Pitchford at 5. I stagger their minutes. I like Peltz more than Parker. Better rebounder and defender. Doesn't get careless with it. a0t0w0 and Hooper 1 1 Quote

Dean Smith Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 Some may think I'm weird...but I'd start Peltz. Move Tai to 2. Start Petteway at 3 and Shields at 4 and then Smith or Pitchford at 5. I stagger their minutes. I like Peltz more than Parker. Better rebounder and defender. Doesn't get careless with it. I thought Peltz was our worst perimeter defender. He knew he was so much slower than the guys he was guarding he was always way on the wrong side of the help line & so was never in position to offer weak side help. & when his man started to beat him off the dribble he usually just resorted to the two handed push. His strength & rebounding is superior to Parker's. He doesn't turn it over because it seemed to me that whenever he got the ball his only thought was, "who can I give this to? And how quickly can I get rid of it." It is hard to turn it over doing that but you don't get any positives either. Just my opinion & the last time I saw him play he wasn't completely healthy I sincerely believe he will be a better player than the one we saw last year. Norm Peterson and tcp 2 Quote
Busch Light Posted November 7, 2013 Report Posted November 7, 2013 That Comer kid is still playing, isn't he? If so than Benny Parker might just be what the doctor ordered. I would assume you would want a very good on-the-ball defender running with him for as many minutes as possible. Peltz is more physical, but I would think this one would be more of a Parker type of matchup. I'm sure both will play. Quote

Just my opinion & the last time I saw him play he wasn't completely healthy I sincerely believe he will be a better player than the one we saw last year. Thats the reason right there. He was playing with an injury that required surgery. I hear he's not 100% but hes a lot better than the one we all saw last fall. Quote
Tallbaby21 Posted November 7, 2013 Report Posted November 7, 2013 I like starting Tai. Throw him into the fire and see if he can handle PG. We'll be a much better team if he can do it. Quote

Huskerpapa Posted November 7, 2013 Report Posted November 7, 2013 We will be fine unless we get into major foul trouble. Hope Jordan lands well and becomes a success in whatever direction he turns. I wondered if something was up with him at the exhibition. He did not appear very motivated. As for Ray...what up man!??? Quote
tcp Posted November 7, 2013 Report Posted November 7, 2013 We all need to keep in mind defensive quickness given the emphasis on hand use. If Peltz is better than Benny at defending with his feet, than I'm fine with him starting. I'm pretty sure that's not the case. We can't have a slow guard reaching out to check opposing players or we'll be giving up a freighter's worth of free throws. Edit: I've been having nightmares about how many games are going to be decided by this change. I'm sure half the coaches in the country are having the same nightmares. Quote

This doesn't surprise me much. I loved what Jordan did for the team in regards to doing whatever was ask of him. My guess is he kind of see's the writing on the wall. There are probably 11 guys in the rotation ahead of him this year. He just had a baby girl and would probably rather spend more time with her and his school work then practice day in and day out and really never see the floor. Just my opinion. hhcmatt 1 Quote

Jordan also has a daughter, and this just gives him more time to focus on school and his personal life. I've known Jordan personally since we were kids and I can almost guarantee it wasn't due to disciplinary issues But why now? Why make this decision now, after going through almost to the start of the season? Why wouldn't you quit over the summer? Or quit at the end of last year? This is a strange time for a guy who's been with the program as long as he has to just plain up and quit "to focus on school." Not saying it's disciplinary. Maybe he was told his chances for playing time would be limited and he wouldn't be in the regular rotation and he decided it wasn't worth the sacrifice of time when he's told he has no shot at seeing the floor for meaningful minutes when the game is in doubt. At that point, I could see a kid evaluating his priorities and thinking "this isn't worth it." But just up and quitting for no other reason than to focus on school? Now? For a kid who's been with the program as long as he has? There has to be more to the story. That sounds like "he left to be closer to home." Quote
Norm Peterson Posted November 7, 2013 Report Posted November 7, 2013 OK, Dimes covered this upthread. Jordan and Miles had a couple of heart-to-hearts. I hadn't seen that yet. That still says there's more to it than just "focus on school." It's more like "focus on school because ______________." Quote
