So, serious question...

If a coach schedules an in home visit and the house is a mess, is that a sign that the school should back off?

What happens on an in-home?  Dinner? Netflix indie movie of the week?

A coach can sell game day atmosphere, but does a recruit need to sell the home atmosphere to a coach?

I guess I've never wrapped my mind around who benefits the most from these visits.  I guess I'm just intrigued by what happens behind closed doors.

The in home for the most part is for the parents to really get to know more about the school, the coaches, etc and for the coaches to see a little of the home life and gain perspective about their lifestyle and upbringing. The few I had were very relaxed and just shooting the breeze and was them getting to know my parents and stuff.

Didn't some coach once say he pulled an offer because the kid was very disrespectful to his mom and the coach walked right out and said we don't have those kind of men at our school. Anybody remember who that was? I think it was in the 70's and was a big time coach who tells the story.

Ed is up to #61 in the new ESPN recruiting ranks. Would be cool to have two of the top 100 recruits next year. Watson is at #65

That's cool.  Very cool.  It'd be even cooler if he pulled the trigger and committed to us already.

One more week until he visits.  I dont see it lasting too long after that point.

Yep, don't see it lasting more than a week tops after he leaves here. Red carpet will be out for him and it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't already have a silent commit in the works with coach miles. I believe he commits just like Watson did on the phone call from miles checking to see if they got back alright.

It's interesting to me that the ratings for both these guys have improved as it becomes more likely they become Huskers.  Contrast that to the ratings of a guy like Hammond a couple years ago who seemed to drop when he committed to NU.  It could just be that these two have improved over the last few months, but I think it also shows that the program is starting to make a name for itself nationally.

I think its because both had solid summers on the AAU circuit more than anything.  They got more offers added to their resumes.  So couple that with guys that may have struggled and moved down thats why I think they have moved up and not so much because of anything NU related.

Hammond spent his last year at a small school in Oklahoma as well.  If "committing to Nebraska" factors into the rankings, I can't believe it's a large factor.

All good points.  I just can't help but think they aren't somewhat related.  Even if it's minor.  In football, there's no question one's offers/commitment affect his final rankings.  All one has to do is watch how much a recruit's rankings change when an SEC school gets involved.  Especially the ESPN rankings.  For that very reason, I always take most recruiting rankings with a grain of salt.

It's probably all in how you look at it. It's one of those 6 of one, half dozen of the other type things.  If we weren't on the rise we probably aren't in on two top 100 recruits, but if the same two recruits were looking at a school like Northwestern or Penn St, they probably wouldn't be rated in the top 100 either.

I think basketball is a little different than football though.  I mean in the Rivals 150 there's commits to Oregon State, Rutgers, Auburn, Penn State, Temple etc that havent done well in years but are still getting good players.  You have to figure some teams can only take 1-5 players a year but theres a huge pool of players out there so they have to go somewhere.

Doesn't Penn St have a couple of top 100 recruits?
