Boy the Big 10 is loaded this year!!!!!   It’s gonna be a grind. Buckle up!

I'm going to take a somewhat different viewpoint.

There seems to be more parity in the league this year.  Many teams can look good; yet many are capable of falling flat as well (Indiana certainly laid an egg versus Louisville today).

I guess what I am saying is, yes it will be a grind; but I see this as a great opportunity to go out and exceed expectations.

The B1G doesn’t have many bad losses at all. But we don’t have a TON of great wins either. As a conference, we’re just 7-6 against AP Top 25 teams. Hence the KP rankings being what they are. Really interested in the NET rankings when they first come out.

Most every home game probably risks being a Q2-Q3 loss while most road games should present Q1-Q2 win opportunities.

Our true road record as a conference is 2-5 (thanks to us and Oregon) while our conference home record is a combined 82-3 right now. Seems like a good year to probably win most all of your home games (8-9) and steal 2-3 away games.

Hot take: St. Mary’s is a top 10 team.

My hot take was that they would win the Big Ten this year. Basically the same team they were last year, minus Mahaney who went to UCONN. He was their only high volume, low efficiency guy. Now they just all share the ball and are more efficient as a team.

UCONN paid Mahaney a boat load of money and it only took them 5 games to realize he’s not it for them.

It baffles me how some coaching staffs get enamored with that type of inefficient guard (similar to what’s happening with Carlyle at Indiana and Isaacs at Creighton). It’s like they’re watching highlights, but not film. Just not a recipe for winning basketball.

Storr at Kansas too, coming off the bench and they paid him how much? Granted they are winning and he’s not being given the chance to take 20 shots a game, so maybe Self figured it out in the off season.

It’s like they lose all sense of their recruiting smarts. They recruit the guys who are highly touted rather than try and fill to their system in the portal. At least that’s how it’s seems sometimes.

Feast week has been up and down for us as a conference. However, we did have some big wins as a conference.

- Penn State had a chance to win their Feast week tournament, but came up short against Clemson. They did beat Fordham in the tournament.

- MSU lost to Memphis in Maui. They did beat UNC and Memphis, however.

- Rutgers lost to Bama in Vegas. They did beat Notre Dame. They will play A&M in the 5th place game.

- Indiana lost to Louisville and Zaga before semi-redeeming themselves vs Providence in the last place game.

- Michigan did win their tournament beating Va Tech and Xavier.

- Oregon has been a huge high point for the conference beating Bama and San Diego St. They'll play Bama for 1.5 MILLION to split between the players.

- Illinois picked up a big win over Arkansas in a single game showcase.

- Purdue is looking to beat Ole Miss after beating NC State.

- Minny lost both to Wichita State and Wake Forest.

- Northwestern is trying to avoid going 0-2 against UNLV and Butler

- We all saw what St. Mary's did to USC.

- Washington won their tournament beating a 3-3 Colorado St and a 3-5 Santa Clara....

- Ohio St had a chance for a big home win over Pitt, but lost on a last second 3 pointer.

Purdue wins it!

Feels like the conference won’t have that Purdue team like we have had last couple years but will be deeper with a lot of teams on the same tier as far as talent.  Don’t really see a team that stands out right now as conference champion.

Teams I'm scared of that will give us problems

UCLA, Oregon, Maryland, Illinois, Michigan

Teams we match up well with

Indiana, MSU, Purdue, Northwestern, Iowa

Teams that could go either way

Rutgers and Penn State (they look really tough so far)

Teams we absolutely can't lose to

USC, Washington, Minnesota

Teams we currently have losses against:  ___

Let's go! Time to make February/March a conversation of "Which seed?" and not "Are we in or not?"

Halftime

Maryland 50

Ohio State 17

???

Not watching— did OSU forget they had a game.

They’ve looked rough in games against teams with a pulse.
