Bugeaters1 Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 Looked better tonight, Now if the team can start to hit some jumpers. Quote
millerhusker Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 None of our players had more than 1 turnover and our walk-ons got to score. I'm satisfied. Also, Berke Buyuktuncel is different. Hopefully his usage rate continues to increase. He has the future potential to be better than Mast at the Mast role. HuscurAdam, throwback and Bugeaters1 3 Quote
basketballjones Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 Better effort tonight for sure. I really hope this team has another gear and some tricks up their sleeve, or else these next two are gonna be tough. Handy Johnson and Faux Mike Peltz 1 1 Quote
MitchMcGaryMunchies Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 Coach Hoiberg had said in his press conference last week that he worked the team really hard in practice on the Thursday before the Bethune-Cookman game. He thought that may have been one of the reasons we lacked effort and intensity and was going to adjust their practice schedule for this week. Hopefully we use the rest of this week for film work and shootaround so we aren't too gassed for St. Mary's. Thankfully, they don't seem to be super active at forcing steals and turnovers, but they've got a couple Lithuanians that can put the ball in the bucket. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 (edited) Much more good than bad in this game. It should remove most of the concern/panic that was present. First and foremost, we are playing pretty darn good defense. There were occasional breakdowns; but those breakdowns should be fixable. Rebounding looked good, we have players that are very aggressive looking for boards. I hope that continues. Free throw shooting looks good. Nice to see. We looked good in transition for the most part. Offensive flow was better; but still a bunch of errors to fix. I liked the assist to turnover rate, which was much better. One of Gavins turnovers occurred when his ankle rolled. I was much more concerned with the ankle rather than the turnover. Three point shooting We were much better around the basket; but there sure is a bunch more meat on that bone. Hey, that was a team we should beat by 20 to 30 points...and we did. Nice win! 3-0. See you in Sioux Falls for the St. Mary game. Edited November 14 by Huskerpapa Quote
Faux Mike Peltz Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 A solid team win. Every single player who got in scored. That doesn’t happen very often. I actually thought Sam and Cale upped the defensive intensity even more and pushed the halftime lead up to 20. Great seeing Cale get in and contribute. He is capable. Coach is high on him because he makes the right passes and plays. He hustles too. I don’t think Meah’s is serious. Not sure about Morgan. Think I saw him in street clothes in the second half. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 Man, I saw Brice and did a double or triple take. Wonder why the change??? Quote

Reduced drag coefficient!!! In the media availability after the game, both Sam and Fred said that Brice had shaved the beard down to a moustache and was rocking that as of yesterday. Sam said he liked the look but no one else did. Too bad, it is "Movember" after all... basketballjones 1 Quote
Cazzie22 Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 I would like us to push the ball in transition more. It seemed to me that we were able to get better shots than in half court offense. I like Ulis at point guard. The small lineup was effective but against top competition it may be a liability. St Mary’s lost their best player to UConn so am not sure what the Gaels have. They will be well coached and our toughest test yet. Handy Johnson 1 Quote
kldm64 Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 It's hard to say we looked better because that was the worst team we have played so far. If we can't start hitting shots from beyond the arc, it will be a long season. We will know alot more about our basketball team after the next 2 games. Looking forward to road trip to Sioux Falls. colhusker Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 I thought Morgan played at one point in the second half. Not saying he didn't end up in street clothes. Quote
AGHANSEN Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 Overall solid game. The ball movement was really good. We had 20 assist on 28 made field goals. We also took a lot better care of the ball. It was disappointing too see FDU cut the lead to 9. Thankfully we pulled away and won convincingly. Once we start hitting some threes and missing point blank layups, I think we can be pretty good. Their starting forward, Paulius Murauskas, ate Berke's lunch on the boards during FIBA this summer when they played head to head. throwback 1 Quote

He tried to make a high-low pass from the top of the key, threw it right into his own defenders hands, then got pulled shortly after. Could be wrong, but I didn't see him in street clothes. I saw him celebrating the Henry bucket and pretty sure he was still in his game stuff. He didn't play much because he was playing poorly on both ends of the court last night and things were flowing better offensively with others in the game. Edited November 14 by millerhusker Quote

B-town hoopsfan Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 Essegian and Griffiths are gonna have to find their strokes from deep or the defensive efforts and improved rebounding aren’t gonna matter in the long run Quote
millerhusker Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 In game coaching is going to matter a lot this year. Last year, our 23 wins were by an average of 17 ppg. 19 of those 23 wins were by double digits, many by 15+. That's pretty incredible. I'm guessing we'll have a lot more single digit, down to the wire games this year. LNKtrnsplnt 1 Quote

Berke & Mast playing together next year intrigues me. I was expecting Berke to be more selfish(no clue why) but seems to really know his role and not try to do too much. He has been great defensively and rebounding the ball. Hopefully his offensive game continues to grow as he gets more comfortable. millerhusker, Art Vandalay and huskerkid21 3 Quote
TourneyBound Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 Rollie had a rough game, hoping he can get things figured out. Impressed with Uhlis and liked how he pushed the ball more. Will be interesting how that battle plays out this year. Quote
Navin R. Johnson Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 I wonder if Morgan is becoming the odd man out. He only played about 7 minutes and Meah did not play. Meah will get some minutes and looks like Berke is settling in to his spot as well. Things will probably change when we start playing teams with more height and post players that actually post up. Bigs always get in foul trouble so there might be a few more minutes for Morgan in those situations. Quote

Isn't it weird that Morgan was sold on coming here to play the Mast role and I have yet to see him even attempt a 3. Watching him play he doesn't really strike me as someone who plays like Mast at all. More of a back to the basket down low guy. Would still like to see more from him before I write him off. Quote

I was expecting a guy that can shoot and pass from the high post area. Like you said, it is still early. Quote
