With the current state of college sports, I will no longer be surprised with any transfer/portal announcement.   That goes for either gender or any sport.

100% agree and that is why it's hard to get invested in kids these days.  You get excited to get a high school kid or transfer and they only stay 1 year and then move on to (green pastures).  I absolutely love college sports but but with the way it's run nowadays, it's make it harder to like.

Makes you wonder how much longer it will be until things like salary caps and signing bonus make their way into college sports.  Other than you only get to play college sports for 4 year and professionally, you can play as long as you want, there isn't much difference anymore.

Saw a player that commited to Tulane in the transfer portal.

He started at LSU and then went to Auburn then to Texas State then to Western Kentucky before now “committing” to Tulane.

When players can sign multi-year deals it will help. Also the portal is opening and closing so frequently it’s a whirlwind, and players know the chance to portal if it doesn’t work out is only a few months away. Now that the coaches in the football playoff have voiced displeasure with the portal happening during their playoff prep, hopefully it will translate to one window at the conclusion of the season for every team, and another in the summer. Standardizing the portal schedule across sports and multi-year deals will help.

You’d like to think hoiberg, Jacobsen, frager, janowski, and bolis are back too.  But with NIL Who knows might be hard to bring back that core even if we have the type of year we are hoping to have.

I believe it was Washut who said Ulis may also get his year of eligibility back, since the charges were dropped. Not sure if there's been an update on that.

I don't know about that.  Ulis got off on a technicality about gambling. I'd personally expect no leniency.

Okay, a huge congratulations!  Yet there is a huge part of my brain, asking, dude, why are you coming back for another year?  Doctorate?

1. To get his knee surgery done by a world class surgeon. And top of the line rehab, all at no cost to him.

2. NIL money

3. To get to play another year of college basketball. In an offensive system that will all flow through him. He's not an NBA guy and European basketball will always be there for him to go back to.

4. He's still looking for that bastard who knocked him off his scooter.

These days, if you’re good enough, playing another year of college makes you as much or more than a Masters ever will.

I don't completely agree with your assessment. I think it depends on your field of study and what you do with that Masters degree.

Does he even have to go to class?

The knee injury would be the main reason.  Getting a professional contract will be easier if he shows he is fully healthy.

I guess I need to further clarify the point I was trying to make.  He came back this year for the surgery, the recovery, the NIL money and to secure his Masters degree.

I am questioning what his reasoning would be to come back next year:

- Loyalty to Fred and the program?

- Doctorate degree?

- Feels he can improve his game to NBA level?

- Really loves his apartment in Lincoln?

- Working on a relationship?

- Loves Runza's and he doesn't realize they can be shipped to him?

The point I'm making is that I am not 100% convinced that he will come back.  If we are contemplating next year's roster, I would probably pencil his name in.

I don't think there are actual contracts yet in college sports, but there had to be an unofficial agreement that he'd come back and play next year.

Nebraska knew in the middle of last season that he'd have knee surgery after the year, then would rehab all of 2024-25. If he wasn't going to come back and play in 25-26, there's no way they'd give a high value player a year's worth of NIL money to not play.

It's got to be the Runzas, right?
