Wife has reservations for Indianapolis, Memphis, Salt Lake City, and Pittsburgh. Free cancellations. On Sunday, I’ll leave my in laws my credit card to get the basketball tickets, airfare if needed, and lodging if it’s a coastal destination.

At this point, I’m not sure it’s Indianapolis because Purdue will likely be there. Omaha and Memphis seem to be somewhat likely. Who knows.

I'm so excited for you, yeah I agree I live vicariously through yall who can afford to fly to wherever the huskers end up.

BUT: I've found a nice in between this year, I'm going to my first march madness, I'm ponying up for Omaha tix for all the Thursday sessions. And it turns out my dad and brother (who have been at a handful of home games this season too) also got tickets and will be seeing me that weekend at some of the games! This is awesome.

I'm only in my 30s but I can relate to a lot of what you've said, Dave + others here. Really excited to jump at the chance to go to a tourney the huskers are in, but I've also never been to the ncaa tourney in person yet. Gonna be fun whoever I see in the Omaha pod.

I went to the 1st round a couple years back when it was in San Diego. I had an absolute blast! Want to say I saw a 5/12 upset (looked it up it Stephen F. Austin vs. VCU). It was so intense!

Why does this board think Brooklyn Charlotte or Memphis? Now I gotta look up more lodging and airfare.

As noted, as a 8-9 we matchup with 1 seeds who get the first pick off all locations. We won't play Purdue, so that's 3 other one seeds.  UConn and Houston are likely locks, and they're play at Brooklyn and Memphis, respectively.

Who will be the last #1 seed?  Currently the two likely teams, Tennessee or North Carolina,  would go to Charlotte.

If Arizona can leapfrog them? Salt Lake City

If Marquette can leapfrog them? Indy

If we end up as a 7 or 10? Probably anywhere except Spokane or Pittsburgh.

The NCAA Tournament in person is always a thrill for me.  My first was in 1988 when Lincoln hosted.  Murray St upset N.Carolina St. and Jim Valvano, Pittsburgh had “send it in Jerome” Lane and Kansas had Danny and the Miracles.  Vanderbilt upset Pitt, Kansas beat Murray and Kansas beat Vandy in the finals. And Utah State had a great dance team. I was hooked.

I went the next year to Reunion Arena in Dallas seeing the Doug Smith Missouri team defeat Harstad-Gallagher Creighton.  I have been to New Orleans for the 1992 Final Four where Chris Weber called for a timeout that Michigan didn’t have and Dean Smith would light up a cancer stick the minute North Carolina left the Superdome floor.

I have been to sights as Oklahoma City, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, Denver, Kansas City, Austin and San Antonio.  The most fun has been the Alamo Dome in San Antonio because you could walk to the bars and restaurants of the River Walk.  The Brickyard area of OKC was a fun location. However, the new TV schedule of games makes the break between sessions so small you have no time to take in the local scene. The best arena was American Airlines in Dallas and the Alamo Dome is far superior to the Super Dome.

I love the battling Pep Bands, the cheerleaders and dance teams and talking to fans from all over the country.  At OKC one year, Bucknell didn’t have a Pep Band so Northern Iowa which had just won in an upset put on Orange Bucknell T-shirts and represented the Bison that a Bucknell representative handed out to them before the Kansas game.

Arizona and Memphis fans might be the most loyal. Derrick Rose of Memphis might have been the best player I witnessed.

I have lot’s of great memories of the tournament.  I highly recommend attending at some venue.  Tickets are more and more difficult to acquire and much more expensive.

So just to summarize for everybody. We are two days away from Selection Sunday and we've been able to narrow down the potential sites we could play in to 8.

I know that's possible but in all seriousness I think we're down to 6.

I agree about 1988, and not just because of KU. I remember the Jayhawk cheerleaders giving out pom-poms to the crowd before their game and watching Will Perdue scarfing down a big box of homemade cookies by himself like they were M&Ms as he sat in the bleachers after one of his games.

Barry Goheen clutching up against the Pitt team was incredible. We also sat in the middle of the Xavier fans and cheered for Danny Manning.

Because the topic has been broached: Our personal NCAA tournament histories.

  • As a high school senior, I attended the 1980 regional in Lincoln, and saw both Missouri and Louisville (over K-State) win.
  • As a senior at UNL, I attended the 1984 regional first round. Kansas and Illinois State won one-point games against Alcorn State and Alabama.
  • As the University of Miami beat reporter for the Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, I was able to choose which sub-regionals and regional to attend, so
    • I covered the first two rounds in Atlanta, where Oklahoma and Louisville emerged.
    • I covered the East Regional in New Jersey, where Duke beat Rhode Island and Temple.
    • I covered the Final Four in KC, when KU and OU went off for 100 points in the first half before KU pulled away for the national title.
  • The next season I was the Sun-Sentinel's U of Florida beat writer, so
    • I watched CSU upset the scandal-ridden Gators in the first round in Dallas. After the game, I saw Alex Chilton perform at a club in Deep Ellum.
    • I skipped the regionals that year and headed straight to Seattle for the Final Four, where Michigan beat Illinois in the second consecutive single-conference final.

I haven't been back to an NCAA Tournament men's game.

Went to 2012 one session in Omaha.

Went to all sessions in 2015 in Omaha.

Didn't buy tix for regionals in 2018 in Omaha, wished I had... both KU & Duke were in the Big O, and played a whale of a game.

Have tickets in 2024 for Omaha, too. Gotta hope NU is 'N' Omaha, too.

One other personal note, my best seats ever were the San Antonio regional in the Alamo Dome.  I was shocked that my seats were on the 2nd row of the baseline.  Greg Oden of Ohio St. was huge and the big guy for Memphis was a monster.  Texas A&M had a huge following for Coach Billy “Clyde” Gillespie and Tennessee was the 4th team.

Am I safe to sell the Omaha tickets now? Feel like we are locked in the 8/9. Thoughts?

I absolutely wouldn’t.  We certainly aren’t out of the 7 seed convo even if the 8 line is where we are most likely.  Our Resume metrics are still in the 6 seed range.
