We're not alone in soft scheduling by any means. Jon Rothstein has been posting noncon schedules, and the comments are just like the ones you read here about ours. I even saw Villanova scheduled soft and caught hell for it. Most of the  teams scheduling tough are the ones who are looking for high seeds in the tournament. The power schools just looking to get in are scheduling soft because they're playing more conference games and don't want any bad losses. And the mid majors are complaining because they get even few games against the power schools now.

I'd read it as a sign that Baylor would have been a Husker had Fred been able to get the program on track faster. Football regaining relevance can't hurt in us winning the recruiting battle in the state.  Let's get the next guys.

I will take a slightly different take on the subject.  Baylor is totally irrelevant to the University of Nebraska.   He CHOSE to attend and play for a rival program.  

He should have total access to Creighton sports.  He should take his new buddies to a Creighton soccer game and be warmly welcomed.  He should also be allowed to PURCHASE a ticket like any other Jaysker.  

However, someone in our athletic department made a bone headed decision to provide him access to the Nebraska playing field to show off to his new cronies.  He also had access to players that were being recruited to Nebraska.

Now am I going to lose sleep about this...heck no.  But giving the dude access to a Husker playing field, when we are playing a rival, in one of the biggest games in recent years, just seems SO wrong.  Just saying...

Baylor showed up with Derrick White, who's from Denver and played at Colorado. So my heart wants to believe Nebraska told Baylor to pound sand, and he had to go run to his teammate to get sideline passes.

If you look at any of the media of Scheierman, he was on the Colorado side so actually, yeah.

What a shame: an Aurora, Nebraska, kid gets drafted into the NBA and shows up at Memorial Stadium to celebrate his accomplishment . . . "on the Colorado side"?!!

That's sad for him, in my book.  Really sad.

Grew up a huge Husker fan in the heartland of Nebraska. I'm glad he could have one over on Derrick White that night. I personally do not fully understand the eternal disdain for B.S. I didn't like the fact he chose CU, but considering Hoiberg was horrendous in those first 3 seasons, so Baylor made a business decision, and worked his butt off to become a 1st round NBA draft pick. He's still a favorite son in the central part of the state of Nebraska. And he rooted 'GBR' even on game day, it's not like he's a traitor like some seem to think. IDK, man, it's petty to not appreciate the work he put in to get where he's at. I can't stand the Boston Celtics, but I'll still root for B.S. to make his way in the league. It's complicated, lol.

Creighton has had the better basketball program for about 3 decades now that got him to play in the elite 8 and sweet 16 in consecutive seasons. Business decision that worked out. If he’s always liked the football team who cares. He still got to date a Husker vball player too

You have your right to your opinion. Others have the right to theirs.

 

By the way, I did not grow up in the metro areas, and I know a load of people both in Northeast and Central Nebraska.  Many do not share your opinion that he is a favorite son, and many are still upset with his decision to turn his back on Nebraska.

 

Again, I am not dissing the dude.  In fact, I respect his accomplishments.   I simply was miffed that he appeared to get special access to the field, and "I" thought that was a bone-headed decision by someone in the athletic department, since he turned his back on the University.  He absolutely has the right to make decisions that he feels are in his best interests.  But when he chooses a rival institution, he becomes irrelevant to our institution.

Yes, this. When AuroranHusker said "He's still a favorite son in the central part of the state of Nebraska.", I think he really meant to say "He's still a favorite son in Aurora" which is fine and makes sense because folks saw him grow up there. He is definitely not a favorite son in the rest of central Nebraska.
