Remember taking the bus from junior high right after school and working our way over to the Bob early so we could sneak in and sit down with in the front row of the student section.  Was treated on one occassion to the Minnesota team with Thompson and some lacky kid named McHale.

That must be a pretty common name up there in Minnesota.  They had a lacky kid named McHale?  I also remember they had a lanky kid named McHale.

But lackies, as we all know, are brown nosers.  And that certainly fits the stereotype of a Minnesotan, doncha know.

Oh ya, sure, you betcha!

I wish I would have been able to go to a game in the old Coliseum.  If 4,000 people can make that place deafening for volleyball, I can only imagine what it was like with a full house for basketball.

Totally agree, actually wish maybe they would move one game there for the younger generation.  When growing up I always heard about some state basketball game that was there, it was a last second shot called "Miracle on Vine" or something.  Anybody else older hear of that?

yeah....I believe the guy that made that shot was a tax professor at UNO and passed away within the past year or two.....I can't recall his name at the moment

So just looked online, it was Lincoln East (my alma mater) in 1971.

The boomer special?  Ogden to Samuelson to Copple!

Thanks Norm I needed a laugh.  Lanky it was.

I remember the longggg walks on cold winter nights trying to locate my car, then long waits in line in trying to get out of the parking lots, then even longer waits if a train was going through the south side of the BOB...oh wait, these were supposed to be fond memories...

Good BDSC memories, not necessarily in order (Warning:  Young people may not get many of these):

1.  Fans throwing shoes out onto the court when Jerry Shoecraft was introduced in the starting lineup;

2.  Moe flailing his arms and accidently clocking his assistant, Tom Baack; nearly knocked him out;

3.  The band playing and singing "Hey Moe" from the 3 stooges when Moe had it going a bit;

4.  Who Shot Stipanovich;

5.  The first time the "Sit Down Norm" signs appeared;

6.  Curtis Moore dunks;

7.  Greg Downing finishing alley oops;

8.  Twice winning to get into the NIT final four, with New York New York blaring on the speakers;

9.  Chubick's block against KU;

10.  Johnson's shot against KU; Reid's shot against MSU;

11.  Wyoming coach Benny Dees getting baited by Husker fans to give the ref the choke sign and Benny getting immediately ejected;

12.  Everything about beating Arkansas and Eddie Sutton in '82 (Eric Williams, nice job);

13.  Bobby Moore's half court shot to beat KU in '78.

Good stuff HB !!   I'll add a few.

-90/91 season the band playing "Another one bites the dust" as each game is winding down and victory is sure

-favorite signs that I remember-- "Big Country Dork" and "Where in the Sam Hill did you get those ears ?"

-Roy Williams asking me if he could barrow my blond wig when he needed to yell at the refs

-pep band mocking the refs by playing "3 blind mice" when the calls were not going our way

Started going to games as a student under Barry. Sat in the cool side of the student section. Made some awesome friends. Got to know the game better. And through a series of events set in motion at my first game in November of 2003, the better part of a decade later, I met the man who, this summer, will become my husband. So there's a little bit of sentiment there.

I'm pumped about the new place, but dang, there were a lot of things I forgot to remember about the Bob until last night.

I'll never forget the upset of OSU. I was able to go to that game by virtue of a bureaucratic snafu. I was getting called up repeatedly for army duty between Nov 1989-1992, and had just been called up about a week prior to that game. So after getting rid of my third apartment ofthe year, and withdrawing from school for the fourth time in two years, about 24 hours prior to tip off I get a call saying my entry's been delayed for 3 weeks. As a gift, a couple of my friend gave my new homeless self tickets to the game so the girlfriend that I'd broken up with about 5 times already due to relentless call ups and I could go enjoy one more stolen moment before breaking up  yet again.....:)

That game made up for every little hardship that month. It was amazing. Sadly, that was my last false alarm and 3 weeks later the call up would last for a long time.

My first time at the Bob was 1983 or 84, against KU.  We lost.  I was awe-struck at how huge the place appeared to me.

A lot of my fond memories at the Bob were of the boys and girls high school tournaments.  In my high school days Pius X was in the tourney every year, boys and girls, and oh what fun we had.

My college years at UNL were the early nineties, so those were the good old days.  When I think of Nebraska basketball at the BDC, I picture Piatkowski with that sweet shot.  I saw a lot of good teams and players have come through.  Like a friend of mine would always say when I asked him if he wanted to go,"Why not?  It's the best game in town."

I remember the sounds.  When Troy Glock double-banked in that three pointer to send the game into overtime against Pius, that was the loudest, longest sustained roar of the crowd I've ever heard.  I remember Danny Nee always yelling, "Motion!  Motion!"  I remember the announcer, "Basket by Piiiiiiiiiiiatkowski!  Piatkowski with the trey!"  I remember being close enough sometimes to hear the players, and one time a player from San Francisco U. (of all places) passing it to his teamates yelling, "BUST THAT SH** G**DAMMIT!!"  We all laughed.

Now, I take my four boys to the games, and we have a great time.  I think they love getting a pizza the most, but they enjoy watching the game too.

Looking forward to starting new memories at PBA.

My early times going to the BOB were with my grandparents when I had moved to Lincoln in 1996, and I went to several games with them and/or my parents.  One of those included the Kansas game in 1998, when I happened to meet Tom Osborne, but was evidently not fully in tune to whom I had met.

I went to games sporadically between 1998 and 2005, but started to really take a liking to basketball as I finished high school in 2004-2005 (Go Knights!)

Of course, I was a regular at the BOB during my undergraduate career, with the crazy dancing from day one and the hard hat appearing in my accoutrements not long thereafter.  It's been good returning to the BOB on winter breaks from Northwestern.

And next year, if I get to come home over winter break... a new venue!

I remember the night the place was packed and chanting my name. All those close enough to individually speak to me were begging me to take the head job at Nebraska. The place was electric as I lead my undefeated girls onto the court for the under 8 girls' world championships.......no wait, that was Kidney.

Or was that BradGuru? I'm so confused.

Well, they only have until, what, August to get this thing renovated and ready for volleyball?  Anyone whose ever built a house can tell you that's not a long timeframe.  Of course, you can probably count on the fact that the electricians and the HVAC guys aren't going to be working on finishing up someone else's house in the Ridge before they can come over and do Devaney's so that they can start on the drywall.  :angry:
