Bandoumel is no star but he's a solid guard you can roll out there every single game for as many minutes as you need. With these last two transfers all of a sudden I can put together a starting lineup that doesn't involve a guy who has never played D-1 basketball before.

In terms of having a guy who can defend and knock down 3s, he's as good as a Trey McGowen's replacement we might find. Trey has about 15 lbs on Bandoumel so the size isn't quite there.  What I'd hope between EB's better KenPom numbers and reading some fans wanting EB to come back that he has the basketball IQ and feel that Trey at times seemed to lack.

He really seems to be as close of an apples-to-apples replacement for Trey as possible.  I think we'll miss Trey's leadership, which is not a knock on Emmanuel; it's hard for anyone to transfer in and immediately take over as a leader.  Emmanuel appears to maybe be a touch quicker/more athletic, and Trey a touch stronger.

But aside from those minor differences, I think the role that they fill is nearly identical.  Both have some explosive finishes at the rim in their highlight reels.  Both are acceptable secondary ball handlers, but probably not someone you want logging lots of minutes at PG.  Both keep the defense honest from behind the 3pt line.  And both clearly build their game on a junkyard dog mentality.

So with all of the transfers still available, Fred decided to fill his last scholarship on a Trey 2.0 rather than a true PG or a lead scorer/offensive focal point.  maybe I'm reading too much into this, but that sure seems like an indication that style of play will be MUCH different this coming year.

Griesel is a point guard.  We recruited him to play PG.  He played almost exclusively at PG for NDSU.  He's not flashy (more wiggle than you might think at 6'6" 220lbs though), but he's enormous and makes mostly smart basketball plays.  Verge had a 5.5/3.4 assist:turnover ratio and was very ball dominant.  Griesel had a 3.4/2 ratio with a higher FG and 3pt%, 76% from FT (Verge was 77%), higher rebounding, higher blocks, lower fouls.  Verge was better with steals.  I think those two were a wash last year, so I expect Griesel to be a little better this season than Verge was last season.

Emmanuel definitely looks quicker and more agile on tape.  Athletic is probably too generic of a word...I shouldn't have used it.  I do think the highlight reel dunks for both guys are similarly impressive.

Gotcha.

Emmanuel looks more like a basketball player to me. Trey looked more like a freak athlete playing basketball (In no way does this imply I didn't find Trey to be skilled or have bball IQ).

Verge also played against much better competition than Griesel did.

True.  The best team Griesel played was SDSU with an NBA prospect guarding him (3 times):

25p/2r/4a

8p/5r/3a

24p/8r/5a

I'd guess Verge's numbers against them would have been similar--a few less rebounds and a few more assists.

All this is great and everything, but I want to hear more about this fishing trip to North Dakota!  Sounds like great fun!!

Caught our limit in walleye both days and northern pike in 1.  I caught a 32 in pike and my dad caught a 28 in. walleye.  I think between the 4 of us we caught 40 fish per day and thus released a bunch back. Lots of fun, hadn't been fishing up north like that in 30 years.

The big key is whether or not Griesel can make his teammates better. Verge often times struggled to beyond Walker until the end of the season.

To be fair to Verge I too would have had reservations passing it to teammates where the most likely outcome was them jacking up an ill advised 3.

Scheierman is a great passer and shooter, but a very sub-par defender. FWIW.

Couple of small lakes west of Valley City.

People refer to them as sloughs though they'd be decent sized Nebraska lakes.

We had a guide and initially we were going to Devil's lake until they basically got flooded out and changed it up.

We suffered from the black hole syndrome last season.  Hero ball can create that issue.  One or two individuals dominate the ball and as a result, when one of the other players touches the ball, they feel the need to jack a shot whether or not it is a high quality shot.

A team that moves the ball will take better shots because the extra pass is made and/or there is predominant feeling of unselfishness.

We could hire the coach who who's team never dribbles the ball I can't remember who it is but there's a video on the board about it.

Bellarmine. They won the ASUN championship but couldn't accept the bid because they're still in their probationary period for moving to D1.

This is amazing!

Just a question but did this kid ever come to see us in person?  No big deal, just asking.

No, he did not visit.  This article addresses your question silverback; and provides other tidbits of information that can and should solicit further discussion.   Enjoy...

It always gripes me when a story about a basketball player doesn't tell how tall he is (he's 6-4).

Sorry, woke up cranky this morning.
