There is so much wrong with that last 60 seconds. Yes, Bryce had 29 - he was also 6/17 and is not good enough to do it alone. This is a goddamn team game - coach like it!

The last shot you draw up is for a guy who was 0-10 on the night?

I am so far off the Fred Hoiberg bandwagon, I can’t even see it any longer. This group of players (it sure as hell ain’t a team) and this coaching staff are an absolute joke.

At the beginning of the season, I didn't feed into the hype. I certainly was optimistic, but level headed (or maybe cautiously optimistic is the right wording). I thought "hey, let's go 0.500 and I'll see that as a win". And wins/losses aside I "just want to see progress" see signs that we're building on something (which Hoiberg hasn't been able to do his first two seasons).

And here we are... Far far below even my mellow expectations. I honestly can't do anything but laugh after this one. Wow.

This was my thought process. "just get to .500 and that's a positive season after the past two".

At this point, I don't even know

Congrats to Fred on the remarkable consistency.

So I have to ask...if $18.5 million is too much to buyout...if we keep Fred, we are only paying $3-5 million each year...can't we just reassign him to developmental coach of the under 12 camp and bring in ANYONE else? Because there has to be some accountability for being this awful and if he's going to  get the money either way I would rather we pay two HC salaries for 7 years rather than 7 years up front and also have to pay the next guy.

Hoiberg giving Adolf Lewandowski a run for his money...

At the risk of being grossly insensitive, he's probably giving another Adolph a run for his money, too.

totally j/k here, just can't let "Adolph" sail by, can I?

I think there's a point vvhere the sunk cost is just there, and you have to act for other considerations, not the least of vvhich is putting out a 5 alarm fire as quickly as you can.

Strictly speaking, the cash is there, but not for a splash hire. they'll have to hire young and hungry. but that's better than vvatching your reputation burn beyond rescue.

I'm sure they could scrape it together but it's a really bad look for all involved. But if Hoiberg won't take a lesser settlement, keep him around let him sit in his office all day for 3 a year and let someone else coach. Otherwise it's $21.5 million in one year to buyout and hire

I honestly think he's settle for a lesser package mostly becausehe might be too young to quit the game entirely. And he needs to come out of this vvith some positive sheen somevvhere, and dropping his fee for ctatrophe might help in that regard.

I have been losing interest in college basketball as a whole for several years now. Always watch NU but rarely take in other games any more. This team is pushing me to quit watching altogether.

In regards to running that play for Kobe (and maybe they took away option 1), it has the feel of a "players' coach" trying to make nice with a player who called him out on the radio 🙄

I personally thought the inbounder looked Bryce's way first, but mag was playing him tight, so they went to Kobe. Both were flashing though.

My guess is they negotiate a buyout to spread the $18.7 mil over a loooooong period to minimize the hit to the budget. Still, would be almost $1 mil a year, even over 20 years, maybe a better deal for Fred.

Any of us would gladly take an $18.7 mil buyout in one shot and not care about the taxes, but people who actually deal with those kind of salaries do.

Fred would be sort of like a lottery winner with that type of choice. Not a bad place to be either way.

I wish somebody would coach Powerball when they're hired here, instead of just winning Powerball.

I personally hate buyouts.  The concept of, “if you are so bad at your job and we have to fire you, we’ll give you a ton of money to leave” makes beyond no sense to me.  It’s just stupid.  You pay people millions to do a high profile job like this.  If they fail, they should be fired like a normal person.

Now it is standard to include these clauses on coaching contracts.  It would be hard to walk back this practice.

A penny today is worth more than a penny tomorrow.
