My favorite part of this video was when he is on the break and goes 1 on 3, dishes to the trailer who drive, and scores.  He goes to the guy to help him up and does that double arm muscle thing that is used by so many of the youth today.  But he was happy about the pass and make by a teammate more than him scoring.  Love that team first idea.

What is the kudzu situation in the greater SE Nebraska area these days anyway?

Can't speak for ALL of the greater SE Nebraska area, but down by Independence Hall and Washington Square in south central Philly, it doesn't look too bad.

I'm going to try to do this from memory.

First it was Keisei. Then Wilhelm. Then we add Bryce.

Drop Teddy.

Drop Akol and Yvan.

Add CJ and Keon. And Oleg.

Thor bids adieu as does Shamiel.

And, really, I thought we had our roster pretty well set for next year. But, hey, that means we have a spot or two open, so might as well bring in another guy who will count as a freshman. Can never have too many freshmen, I always say.

If we add another freshman, this is going to be crazy. Yeah, he played 2/3 of a normal season and so he's going to be a seasoned freshman, and yeah, the kid looks really good.

But seven freshmen?

Or course, if this guy is as good as his film looks (and as good as Hoiberg and Co evidently think he is) then he could very well slide into the starting lineup next to Bryce. And I'd be OK with that. He looks like a PG to me. A PG who can shoot from outside.

And the competition for the other three starting spots will be extremely intense. Because there's going to be a lot of talent on this roster next year. As talented as any Husker team since the Tim Miles era. And I really mean that.

I could handle that many freshman.  We all know there would be some growing pains.  If they all stick around 2 years we would be REALLY good the year after.

REALLY good.

Atlantic-10 all-rookie selection Jordan Hall entering transfer portal, leaving St. Joe’s

Hall prepped at Neumann-Goretti, where he won a PCL title in 2020. Lange called Hall one of the 10 best passers he’s ever coached before the season. Hall finished first in the nation among freshmen in assists. Many people thought of Hall as the future of the Hawks’ program.

I could see Hall as a part of a starting lineup that looks like this:

1- Trey McGowens (6’4”)(Jr)

2- Bryce McGowens (6’6”)(Fr)

3- Keon Edwards (6’7”)(Fr)

4- Jordan Hall (6’7”)(Fr)

5- Derrick Walker (6’8”)(Jr)

As a 215 lbs freshman, Hall already has 10 lbs on Lat. In 2020-2021, Hall averaged more points and more rebounds per game than Lat. Hall shoots slightly higher % from 3PT. This last season, Hall averaged 5.7 assists per game, while Lat averaged 0.6 assists per game. Hall is a better ball handler than Lat, which makes him much more effective getting to the rim, and he is much more capable than Lat of creating his own shot. In this lineup, Trey, Bryce, Edwards, and Hall would all be able to bring the ball up the floor in transition. As a Fr, Hall is basically the size that Christian Bishop was as a Jr for Creighton this last season.

I could also see Hall coming off the bench at the PG spot in a rotation that looks like this:

1- Trey McGowens (6’4”)(Jr)

2- Bryce McGowens (6’6”)(Fr)

3- Keon Edwards (6’7”)(Fr)

4- Lat Mayen (6’9”)(Jr)

5- Derrick Walker (6’8”)(Jr)

1- Jordan Hall (6’7”)(Fr)

2- CJ Wilcher (6’5”)(Fr)

3- Delano Banton (6’9”)(So)

4- Wilhelm Breidenbach (6’9”)(Fr)

5- Eduardo Andre (6’10”)(Fr)

Either in the starting lineup, or coming off the bench, I think Hall would be very valuable piece for Nebraska.

To me it sure sounds like he owes someone money!  Lincoln, NE is a great place to go to get off the grid and disappear.

The kid looks good. His film is impressive and his stats back up that it's real.

I understand Hoiberg decided to reach out because he thought this kid had a level of talent we couldn't pass up and, if he's willing to come, we'd make room for him.

As I see his film, I can see why Hoiberg likes this kid. If he's as good as his film, he's probably a guy who initiates the offense and would fill the role Banton would have filled, which is different than the role Lat fills.

That's just my impression. I could be way off. Someone care to offer any other insight?

OK, I'm calling it. If this guy signs with us, he starts at point.

If you want to throw cold water on this - St. Joseph's went 5-15; their roster listed him at 6'7" and not 6'8"; he only averaged 10 points a game as a high school senior, being only the fourth leading scorer on his team, and he was only a two-star recruit; and if he signs on, there won't be enough minutes to go around.

On the other hand, the highlight reel and assist stats are extremely impressive.  There's some elite skills on display there.  If you have a chance to get a young man like this on your team, you do all you can to get him.

One other thing, I looked up his high school stats and it was amazing how his season averages didn't change much from his senior year of high school to his freshman year of college.

That kid is a stud. Just don't see point guards like him anymore. Pass first. Does not seem to be looking for his shot as much as looking for the right play.  And his passes just seem like they are so easy to handle. Would be a great get.

This kid's pretty good. If we're going after him, must mean we think we have room for him.

Point guard/forward? With all the big men, that class could use a point guard.

I'd be happy about adding Hall to the roster, but the devil's advocate in me says pump the brakes a bit with the hype.  He has ability, but be careful with highlight tapes.

I can't stress enough about how a lack of efficiency -  38% from the field and 3+ turnovers a game - from your primary ball handler leads to losing basketball. We've had so many of these guys the last two years. And we've won a total of 14 out of 59 games. Banton shot a higher FG% and turned the ball over less. He's a better shooter than Banton for sure. But his 2P% was 41%. Banton's was 51% and we thought one of Banton's issues was an inability to finish around the rim in Big Ten play.

Hall played on a very bad team in a mid-major conference. St. Joe's was also quite possibly the worst defensive team in all of college basketball.

I also don't see enough quickness to get by Big Ten perimeter defenders as consistently as he did in the A-10. He's a very good A-10 player. Personally, I don't think he's anything more than an average player on an average team at the power 5 conference level. There's a reason the big boys aren't after him.

Interesting commit.  A bit of a reach, but the kid has some ability it looks like.

Ryan was an unranked prospect in the 2016 class: https://247sports.com/Player/Ryan-Hawkins-46116005/

3-pt specialist, shooting a career 41% from behind the line for the the Bearcats.  He's a (I think) 23 year old grad transfer who won 3 National titles with NWMSU, including tournament MOP this year.

We'll see how his game translates at the Big East level, I suppose.  Well...some people will see I guess.  Not me, because I can't stand watching that Big East garbage basketball, but some folks can tolerate it.

He sounds a lot like Trevor Lakes. Those shots are sure easier to get off against DII competition.

That's an eerily apropos comp, actually.  Identical in pretty much every single category, except for Lakes weighs a little bit more...
