Read in an OWH article today that HCFH averaged 7 new players per season during his time at Iowa State. The article said that that number did not include sit-out guys who were becoming newly eligible (meaning they sat out the previous season as a member of the team).

Just thought it was applicable to this thread and an also interesting bit of information.

Hard to say. We are looking at four players leaving the program, before exhausting all of their eligibility, from the 2019-2020 season:

- Samari Curtis

- Jervay Green

- Dachon Burke

- Cam Mack (not official; but the media mentions how unlikely it is that he will return in EVERY article that comes out about roster attrition)

Wouldn't be surprised if we see one more. Also wouldnt be surprised if thats it for this season. However, more than one more would surprise me.

Another thing we might might need to consider is the new transfer rule. Very possible it could be implemented as soon as the 2021-22 season.

Kids rarely want to RS anymore, atleast voluntarily. So for some of our younger players, it might make sense to stick it out one more year and see if they can carve out, keep, or expand their role. And if not, they can leave after next season if they choose and will possibly (probably?) be able to play immediately at their new school.

My thoughts on this is because the world is on such a hold pattern right now, decisions might also be on hold.

Might be that year where guys don't transfer till way late into the year.

It would be tough to think about moving on from a place if you don't even know what a new place could be.

I think a lot of kids don't redshirt today because their 5 year clock has started already so they don't want to lose that year when they inevitably transfer out. It's almost like they PRESUME they will transfer from the get go.

I think coaches feel the same way. Sitting out a year increases the chances of a graduate transfer.

Fifth year seniors we've had in the last 10 years that were scholarship recruits and spent their entire career at Nebraska:

2014, Ray Gallegos.  Ray redshirted with a vague undisclosed injury after his third year.  He attempted to transfer after his freshman year but the places he wanted to go (Utah State was one) didn't have any scholarships available or didn't give him a spot.

So although Yvan and Cross and Arop would be substantially better as fifth year seniors than as second year sophomores, it isn't likely to happen.

I have french heritage.   Life in France moves at a slower pace and everything there is measured differently than in the States.  They also consider themselves young at heart.

So don't be fooled by Yvan's "reported" age.  He is actually 26 years old.  Given his true age, he will not redshirt.

Viva la France!!!

One of the discouraging things about this year was that his roster was flipping every year.  I guess we'll see what happens when we have foundation as we will at least have a core set of players that know how this is supposed to work

Wonder how much his first year at Iowa State skewed the average. If it was anything like his first year here, he probably had a double digit number of new players which would inflate the average since he was only there 4-5 years.

Also, he was sending guys to the NBA (early departures? Idk) which is a positive type of attrition. My guess is if we discount the first year and account for any early NBA departures, it doesnt look/sound so bad. Every school has a graduating class and roster turnover that leads to four to five new players every season (another guess on my end).

Guess I will not worry about attrition until year 3. If we are still seeing this kind of of roster turnover, all thought given what college basketball has become with regard to leaving it may not change, I will be worried.

Just me looking at things today

Mack is almost certainly gone but it's technically not impossible for him to be back.  There is also the possibility that he could be ineligible if he hires an agent.

Seems like Thor and Yvan will return. It's possible that guys who have verbally committed here might decide to uncommit.  It's possible that guys who redshirted last year could then decide to transfer. This part of our roster seems pretty solid.

That leaves Cross, Arop, and Easley as any of them could decide this isn't the place for them or they could have coaches tell them they should think about playing somewhere else. Zero idea what any of these guys might do but just wanted to lay it all out there.

ATM we're at one open spot. If Mack is indeed gone, it's 2.

So this tweet implies that Kevin Cross is transferring, as he played every single game this season and was clearly "in Nebraska's rotation".

Would you include Charlie Easley or Akol Arop as "in Nebraska's rotation"? Easley was definitely in the rotation for over half of the season. Easley started a few games and played more than Arop in both game appearances and MPG.

This would imply that Cross and Arop are gone.  Note this has not actually happened yet.
