swoof Posted August 18, 2017 Report Posted August 18, 2017 I'll go out in the backyard and check it out. We're only getting 99.4% totality in Eugene/Springfield but I-5 coming out of California is already backed up with traffic headed up toward about halfway between Corvallis and Salem. There's no way I'm getting out and driving around on Monday. Bugeaters1 1 Quote

49r Posted August 21, 2017 Report Posted August 21, 2017 I feel super lucky I got to see the corona in between rain storms here in KC. Quote

Red Don Posted August 21, 2017 Report Posted August 21, 2017 CSPAN had a very good segment at the Homestead National Monument near Beatrice that showed the total blackout. (Sadly, I wasn't there. ) Quote

AuroranHusker Posted August 21, 2017 Report Posted August 21, 2017 Took a big nap... when exactly is this event? Quote
jimmykc Posted August 21, 2017 Report Posted August 21, 2017 Just back from Beatrice. Took two and a half hours for the 40 minute drive back to Lincoln. It was worth it. Clouds uncovered at the very last moment and got to visit for awhile with Bill Nye who gave me a personalized autograph. A very good day for old Jimmy. HB, Red Don, bobcat402 and 2 others 5 Quote

Now, if I wouldn't have left my camera behind it would have been even better. Thanks for the tip on a great place to watch on my journey from St. Louis to Omaha. The last hundred miles into KC were awful. Still worth it for the totality view. colhusker and 49r 2 Quote
Red Rum Posted August 22, 2017 Report Posted August 22, 2017 Our original spot got cloudy so we booked it south. Ended up pulling into a parking lot in Beatrice right before Totality (love that word). It was pretty rad. I'm glad we decided to move. The ones that stayed behind didn't see anything. We took back roads back to Lincoln and made pretty good time. Quote

Red Don Posted August 22, 2017 Report Posted August 22, 2017 A good thing it was "Totality" dark so nobody could see it! Quote

At our age Silverbacked, I bet our wives would agree we look much cooler with our pants on.... The eclipse was kick ass in Hampton. Sporadic clouds off and on. 5 minutes before totality, they disappeared for the rest of the eclipse. Had people from England, Canada, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Arizona and Minnesota stop in. Fun times! royalfan Posted August 22, 2017 Report Posted August 22, 2017 Set up camp on a country road near Lewiston and had a little tailgate. It was awesome day. Took country roads back to Lousville to avoid the traffic nightmare as best we could. Quote
