Buglem Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 I'm so excited for the season to start! Not sure if it's because of all the off season drama or all the naysayers. Might be all the young, talented kids. I don't know what it is but I'm absolutely pumped! Looking forward to seeing the team next Monday. I believe it's going to be a fun season and we are going to watch a team grow up right before our eyes. By the end of the season nobody will want to play us. Lets go Huskers!!! jayschool, Silverbacked1, Red Don and 3 others 6 Quote
aphilso1 Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 Yep. All the recent tidbits from the *secret* scrimmage against ISU and then again yesterday have made me ready for Nebrasketball to come back! Quote
khoock Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 I've been excited since we lost to Maryland! I've made it clear that I am a huge Tim Miles fan and I'm really excited to see what he can do with this team. This will be his most talented roster here and possibly his most complete. Can't wait to get started. Hoping for a good, healthy year. Norm Peterson, Red Don, jayschool and 2 others 5 Quote

AuroranHusker Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 Less than five days 'til the exhibition game! GBR!! Quote
Chuck Taylor Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 The left side of my brain has been telling me we lost too much scoring, we have a new point guard and we have too many guys whose best position is the 4. But then the calendar flipped to November and the right side kicked in like it always does. WE'RE GONNA SHOCK THE WORLD!! jayschool and Red Rum 2 Quote
hhcmatt Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 Part of the excitement is the unknown of how the we will fill the scoring void from last year plus the potential sophomore skill increases from our freshman class. Quote
bball23 Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 I know there will be times this year where our offense will really struggle. I think we have a chance to be a good defensive team. But I am always optimistic for our beloved Huskers and I am a HUGE Tim Miles guy. Here's to hoping we have a fun, successful season! GBR! Quote

Swan88 Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 The best (and most exciting) part of Nebrasketball, these days, is the quality of the last two recruiting classes. Every one of this year's scholarship freshmen and sophomores is a high-quality difference-maker. Can't wait to see their progress through the season! Silverbacked1, Norm Peterson and Red Don 3 Quote
hal9000 Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 Always right before the season starts the optimism is at it's highest. But this year seems different. This is as complete a team as we've had under Miles. We've got legit size and length. We shouldn't have to double down on the low post, exposing the perimeter. We're very strong at the point and 2 guard positions. Our wings are young but talented, with Jack McVeigh giving us a legit threat from deep. I have no predictions yet for the post season yet, but we should be be able to compete is almost every game! Quote
Huskerpapa Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 We are more talented than last year. There is reason for optimism because the potential is there. If we realize our potential, good things will happen. If we don't, well, I don't want to think about that right now. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 It's always exciting before the season starts. Fresh faces, enthusiasm renewed. Ask Cub fans in the past century's worth of baseball. Silverbacked1 1 Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 For me as each year starts I get giddy about the game of College Basketball. I think our recored might not be better this year in the preseason but I think we are going to be better by the end of the year. We will need to remember that they are kids and they will have bad nights and there will be nights where they are gassed. But as always I will be backing them win or loss, good game or bad. I just love watching my Huskers play hoops. I also think that it helps that the football and volleyball teams are playing at a high level. It helps with the MOJO. Hooper Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 (edited) There's obviously major concern over how we're going to replace approximately 41 points of scoring that was lost through departures. I happen to believe it could be replaced in a very fragmented/crowdsourced type of way. For example: - Glynn, Tai and Ed each score 2 PPG more than last year = 6 points - MJ and Jack each score 3 PPG more than last year = 6 points - Evan Taylor and Jeriah Horne each contribute 4 PPG = 8 points - Jordy scores 6 PPG = 6 points - Isaiah scores 7 PPG = 7 points - Anton scores 8 PPG = 8 points TOTAL POINTS = 41 PPG These numbers are just wild guesses as to how the scoring differential might be made up, but I feel it's very manageable. The burden will fall on everyone. Edited November 3, 2016 by Hooper fr8-train, Silverbacked1 and Red Rum 3 Quote
49r Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 It is amazing how anybody is able to graduate from a team/school and have that place function afterwords. Because naturally, Shavon Shields and Andrew White were the only two people in the world that would have been able to score points this year and forever in the future from now on forever. I mean we weren't able to replace Terran Petteway's 16 PPG either. What a crying shame... Quote

I see your point through the sarcasm, and it's a legitimate one, but let's also not act as though scoring comes easily to this team, because that really hasn't been the case for quite some time. Even with White and Shields on the court, this team had some lengthy offensive droughts in games that were frankly maddening to witness as a fan. This isn't Creighton where everyone can shoot and score. Quote

When I talk about "how we will fill the void" it's not a statement that we can't score; it is me wondering how the shots will be distributed this year. Quote
