  1. This is going to take awhile, so please be patient with me. Years and years ago, soon after Dave started this website, a poster by the name of jimmykc (couldn't figure out why a guy from Kansas City was a Husker bball fan) started a thread called Enjoy Every Sandwich. I wondered what the heck he was talking about. Well, it was a reference to Warren Zevon's dealing with cancer. When you're diagnosed with it, that's what you do. All the little things, no matter how small, take on new meaning. You learn an appreciation for them. Jimmy, at that time, told us about the battle he was facing. Thank you, my friend, for sharing the beginning of that war. Had you not done that, I wouldn't have known you were victorious at battle's end. I wish I could tell you that I'm facing that same battle against cancer, but I can't. I would trade places in a heartbeat. My 23 year old son Seth has been diagnosed with MDS--Myelodysplastic Syndromes. It's in the leukemia family. (kind of the same way that Baal is in the Beelezubub family). He's a trooper. He's spent two weeks at UNMC, undergone 3 bone marrow biopsies, 15 blood transfusions and numerous other tests. And guess what? He's still working! And always has a smile on his face. I love that kid! So why am I sharing? Several reasons. 1) Don't sweat the little stuff. I mean," why didn't you throw your dirty clothes in the hamper" bitching really sucks. 2) I don't care how old you are, you're not guaranteed tomorrow. 3) focus on the important things--God, family and doing good. And last, but most importantly, when Seth is completely healed, God is gonna get a big High Five! Speaking of "High Five, A Cancer Survivor's Poetic Journey" page 55. "Medicine is the art of taking strangers' problems and treating them like your own. Poetry is the art of taking your own problems And sharing them with strangers." Thanks, jimmy.

  2. If we put a semicolon between pages 20 and 21, what will that do to the curse?

  3. If a recruiting thread goes over 20 pages, but 19 of those are a grammatical pissing contest and we lose the recruit, is the 20 page curse in play?

  4. You know, one of the things I appreciate about this board is that it doesn't really matter whether we know each other "in real life" or not. It's still a community and while we might bicker about nonsensical things (of course it's a common interest and discussing them is why message boards exist, but in the long run, does it REALLY matter who starts at the 4 next year?), when it really hits the fan, we care about our own. Hang in there, friend. You have our prayers and we'll all celebrate on the other side of it. God is good.

  6. I think its just this generations lack of wherewithal when it comes to grammatical usage for spelling and punctuation. Twitter is the death of spelling and punctuation, or that's what I hear from older people.

  7. Thanks, everyone for the warm words and prayers. You all mean a lot to me. Last night I forgot to state the main reason why I posted this. I truly consider everyone here as part of my family. I've met many on this board, in fact, when we did a meet and greet at Barry's a few years back, those in attendance met Seth. He went with me and was very impressed how nice everyone was. We have something very special here. It's cool we all got together around a program that notoriously sucks. But, just like Seth's, their best days are still ahead! I'll give updates from time to time. Potentially, down the road, he might need a bone marrow transplant. How cool would it be if his match was Christian Standhardinger.

  11. Cip, Prayers and good wishes to your son and your family. Though I have not met you or many of the posters on here in person, I feel as if I know many of you, through our mutual interest in Husker basketball.

  12. I second the motion. Enjoy every sandwich. They usually go better with beer. So, enjoy every beer, too. Cip, I remember you and I celebrating with Jimmy his 5-year, all clear, cancer-free date. You have to celebrate the victories because the people you love don't always win. I look forward to celebrating with you again when your son wins. In the meantime, you and he have my prayers.

  14. Cip, With tears in my eyes and love in my heart, for someone I have never met, yet I feel like I have known for several years, I wish Seth and you the best in this struggle. If I can offer more than a ray of hope, I have a friend that had a leukemia struggle 30+ years ago. I am going to see her this weekend...so I know there is certainly a reason to hope. We all wish you the best!

  16. I hole-hardedly agree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

  18. Of course, the debate was over the "wordsmith" tweet of a 16yo. Why is that so hard to embrace? Maybe it's not a good use of a debate. So now you're debating me about whether the debate was about the "wordsmith" tweet or the suggestions on how to fix the "wordsmith" tweet? Is that a better use of a debate? To have a debate about the debate? Normy, why be the antagonist? You seem to go on attack mode, for no particular reason. It was about the tweet or there wouldn't be the discussion, err debate. OK, now I'm confused. Are you being serious or are you being facetious? I don't see a wink thing so I'm wondering if you're being serious here. If you're being serious, then you need to re-read my posts while imagining a more pretend-serious tone of voice. More like Stephen Colbert than Chris Matthews. You should not read any of it with any sort of attack implied.

  22. So how many offers from Nebraska does he have? That little comma between "offer" & "from" is so small, it might even be 'missing'! Actually, it should be a semicolon I do believe. No, it shouldn't. It should read (among other options), "I got another offer, this one from Nebraska." This is hilarious.... a debate over "wordsmith" tweets of a 16 year old. I hate to quibble, BUT ... the debate wasn't about the 16-year-old's tweet; it was about whether the tweet could be fixed with a semi-colon or not. The tweet itself was ambiguous; that fact was beyond debate. The hotly contested issue was whether a semi-colon inserted before the words "from Nebraska" could repair the ambiguity in a grammatically-correct way; the correct answer was that it could not. Have I used my semi-colons correctly in the three sentences above? Debate away. My head hurts!

  23. I. Can't express enough the words that cip speaks of. I have Co worker that has had breast cancer beat that and now is fighting throat cancer. She comes to work everyday and does her job know g that she doesn't feel the best. So far she has won cip. So keep your head up and thoughts and prayers to you and your family. 24. That's why I don't think Bob White should have commented on the ordeal. If the allegations are true, it shows he supports the coaches and their asinine ways of coaching.

Illinois considered separate practices for black players? Holy shit what a mess. Embarrassing.

  27. ¿What do, this; all mean? If we's all a started usin' the poor grammar: and punctuation marks; will major recruit start a landings? Then why disn't Coach Miles have hired Sideburn Jones, on the last assistant Couch opening spot? Think how valuables, he coulda be, on recruiting trips/

  28. So how many offers from Nebraska does he have? I was going to go there, but I figured I'd let it slide this time. Thank you, though. I just figured we must REALLY want the kid if we've offered him multiple times. And, obviously, he's taken note. Just sayin'.

  32. Nebraska has been a football school and the fans are used to football style recruiting. But basketball is a different animal. Kids are spotted and ranked no later than their sophomore years. The relationships start earlier making it harder to immediately build a relationship when the kids are juniors or seniors. Miles did not come to Nebraska with a Calipari list of basketball connections. People forget that guys like Calipari were coaching in Final Fours 19 years ago (that UMass team was even ranking #1 in the country) and have had decades to build up recruiting ties. What Miles has done over his career is impressive, but really was not noticed until recently. Further, he did not coach at tradition rich basketball programs and spent most of his time developing players instead of coaching players to help their draft stock. I really think Miles just needed more time. Transfers have helped jump start the program; however, quick fixes can backfire. Already, Miles has 2017 recruits already ranked in the top 100 looking at Nebraska. To me that is a good sign of progress.
