Yup...tough day. First veteran's day where I couldn't tell him thank you. He was my hero, and beyond that was a true hero. 37 missions over the European theater, Purple Heart, and a number of other accomodations. He couldn't watch the movie the Memphis Belle as it was too real. For a number of years he couldn't talk about the years, but he eventually wrote his bio of his war years, plus his years growing up in the depression. Pretty compelling stuff my friends. He was a great friend, a great Dad, a great man, and I really miss him. I have told this to very few people...he was a Husker fan through and through. He also loved the Royals. When he was very close to the end, I was visiting with him...on a whim I said, hey Dad, when you are in heaven, will you keep a close eye on Husker basketball (my sister who is a Creighton fan didn't appreciate it), and Royals baseball. Perhaps you can talk the good Lord into a World Series appearence for the Royals and a NCAA basketball win for the Husker basketball team....WELL, he got it done with the Royals... Whew, that was therapeutic.4 points -

The guy who replied called himself Jaymes, but it had to be Jean posing as a Jaysker. I'm sure she also wanted to add "sit down" and "don't be so loud." You can hardly blame them when they've got no All-American to hold on to now and never even made it to the Sweet 16 with him. They have to grasp at straws and go after the only team in the state.2 points -

As much as I like Leslee, we're better off in the long run if we have his scholarship for next year. Wow. With all due respect, I completely disagree with you, ajb, shortdust and whoever else shares this sentiment. The only way I could maybe understand this thinking is if you are convinced that Leslee is just injury plagued and will never be able to play more than spot minutes and be less than 100% while doing it. But if he could come back healthy by next season and play a full season, I would take him in a heartbeat and count our blessings. If Leslee came back, he would only be here for next year. He is not eating a scholarship for 4 years or anything like that. Just next year, which he would be playing and contributing. Unless something completely unexpected happens in the spring signing period, NU is going to be in the same, or possibly worse, situation in regards to lack of big men next year. Miles did not sign a big man in this class (and no, I do not consider Morrow a big man; especially not in the B1G as a freshman). NU will lose Moses and Leslee and it not bringing in anyone to replace them. I have already seen enough of Hammond to know that he probably is not going to be force down low for a while, if ever. Leslee has proven he can be an decent, if not solid, big man. Why would any fan of NU not want him for a full season next year, when we could make a serious run at the sweet 16? Lets put it another way. If Leslee were healthy this year, he would easily be in the top 6 or 7 IMO (I think he is better than Rivers, he just can't start b/c Miles needs to switch between Pitchford and Leslee). Why would we not want one of our top 7 players back? If anyone thinks all these freshman are going to walk in and just start dominating, you need to reconsider. Think about Tai and how he struggled last year. Look at Tarin Smith this year. Fuller? I know that the new guys are more highly ranked (although not more highly than Tai according to some), but that doesn't mean they are physically ready for the B1G, or that they can master Miles' defensive scheme quickly, etc. Besides, NONE of them are centers. Unless Miles magically and remarkably pulls a rabbit out of his had and lands a top-notch juco big man in the spring, I would much rather have Leslee return and be our backup center all year next year, hands down. If Miles has a 5 star wing that also wants to sign in the spring, then he can sign him and room will make itself available like it always does due to attrition.2 points

Re: Groupon – I think this is beyond just comparing prices. Creighton has tried to appear as the poster child for strong attendance since Qwest/C-Link opened in 2003. They regularly inflate their numbers with sold tickets announced and pump up how strong their attendance is year to year. Yes, arguing how much selling alcohol helps these numbers is a whole other discussion. Of course all the aforementioned has gone on while Nebrasketball has largely struggled on the court and with attendance at the Bob before moving into PBA. It’s just ironic how at the start of this season, with Nebraska now preseason ranked, Creighton losing the bulk of their “best team ever” they appear on Groupon before the season opener. I feel like it’s coming full circle. Now let’s beat them on the court.2 points -

Here's another idea. Can someone photo-shop a picture of Miles with Terran's star tattoo on his arm? Miles said he told Terran he'd get a star tattoo like Terran's if we reach the Sweet 16. In fact, maybe the student section can create red star armbands to wear at the games. That red star on the arm may come to symbolize where we're fixin to go. And maybe that's the next idea for an HHC T-shirt. Put a big red star on the sleeve. Booyah. There we go. I'm the ideas guy; all y'all go make it happen.2 points -

Like I said my grandpa didn't get out of the states and was where all the boys(as he called them) were training to go to Omaha Beach. He lived to be 96 and he talked bout how he felt bad that he didn't go over to fight, especially the last year of his life. However, I don't think Leslie was ever going to "come back healthy", even before this knee injury. Those knees are chronic, would limit his minutes and productivity, and the "if he were healthy" assumptions were always going to be relative. If this is your assumption going into next year (or any year with Leslee), then I can understand this sentiment. However, even with that said, if we could just get 15-20 minutes per game, every game, with Leslee next year, I would still take him over an open scholarship. We are going to have a huge hole in the middle next year (again, unless Miles can pull a rabbit out of the hat) and we are all going to be talking about how good this team could be if we just had "one more big man".1 point -

Miles on Big Red WrapUp
AuroranHusker reacted to 49r for a topic
#NoSitSunday was borne out of "no s#it" reply by Miles to Harrison at the notion at beating Wisc will get NU in the Big Dance. Miles' cup runneth over... Yeah, of course, and we've all heard him explain it a dozen times, but I think this time he actually let the s word slip. IIRC, he said it like this on BRW: "...and I said no *kidding* Sherlock, except I didn't say 'kidding' it was something else, rhymes with 'shit'..." Normally the punchline here is him just saying "rhymes with 'sit'" and that's it. But this time I think he got the h in there. I might have mis-heard it too...1 point -

Something to possibly consider is the overshadowing affect on Shavon. Sometimes in high school when you have a very highly rated player on your team you get overlooked. Shavon played with 4 star "brother" Willie Cauley Stein heading to kentucky. He was considered the "star" in terms of recruiting while Shavon was the glue guy. Now go to another midwest high school in Ames, IA. You have a highly rated 5 star Harrison Barnes with a well rounded 3 star glue guy in Doug McDermott that was overlooked. We all know how that played out. In the end I think ratings are an inexact science but are fun data to look at.1 point -

5 Key Questions for 2014-15 Nebrasketball Season
HuskerActuary reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
I am, quite a bit, yeah. Last year, we had basically 8 legit Big Ten players. A couple were borderline, but still. This year, as of right now, we have 6. No Leslee and no Ray. So, we need a couple of the newcomers to get up to speed as soon as possible and become at least marginal Big Ten players. And then we need Leslee back and healthy if he can get there, and the sooner the better. We have no margin of error on the injury side, which was why I just about had a heart attack when I saw Shavon Shields go down in that exhibition. We lose any of our big 4 players and we can kiss a successful season sayonara.1 point -

5 Key Questions for 2014-15 Nebrasketball Season
AuroranHusker reacted to ajb5856 for a topic
I don't think we have as much to worry about anymore when one player is off. It wasn't too long ago where it was like, where are any points going to come from? We didn't have 5 total guys who deserved to be on the floor and of those 5 maybe only 2 of them were threats to put the ball in the basket. We are not too far removed from that scenario. So now we have enough scoring threats to really spread the floor and make teams worry about who they are going to stop. The exhibition was rough all the way around. Petteway was 'off' and Walt was MIA. So we had Shavon carry the load and had Tai chip in with a nice game. I think we'll do okay.1 point -
