I'd love for the US to make it through the group, but I don't see us beating Germany. Have to beat Ghana, draw with Portugal, and hope for a better goal differential. Or if Germany has 6 points going into the last game with the US and we have four points, a draw would secure both teams through to the round of 16. That's my most hopeful scenario. I'm not as optimistic as you hskr4life, but maybe I should be. Winning the so-called Group of Death would be quite a feat! Similar perhaps to a 4th place conference finish and run to get into the tournament!3 points -

OT: World Cup 2014

Hup Holland. They are second favorite team. They are the reason I love soccer so much. Before tiki taka there was Cruyff's total football, the soccer version of a 5 man motion where anyone can end up anywhere but with 10 field players not a mere 5. I'm not that old but it was still beautiful in the late 80's with the likes of Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit, and Frank Rijkaard. And yes I did look up how to spell those names. van Basten might be the greatest soccer player no one in America has ever heard of.2 points -

The FIBA Basketball World Cup will be held this August 30- September 14th. They have changed the name of the FIBA world championships to the world cup this time around. And the FIFA World Cup is no secret to anyone not living under a rock, whether you want to hear about it or not. Personally I think this year will be exciting because Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Germany, Uruguay, Netherlands and Belgium are all considered favorites and that's not even mentioning the numerous dark horses. Should be one of the most competitive world championship events for any sport in a long time. Looking for some tight, competitive games after watching this years NBA playoffs.2 points -

Also a bit off of this topic but I think that we should go down and get that fake Vault door at the Grand and bring it down to the PBA so that the men's and women's team could run through it when they enter. That is if they are getting rid of the vault thingy with the new bar that is going in down there.2 points -

It was really one of the best camps that any of my boys went to. I learned as much if not more in that week than the boys did. Have always loved the attack, attack, attack idea and that anybody can play anywhere. Just fun soccer to watch. Also 4 years ago I got to be on a cruise from Italy to Greece and hit some other countries. Anyway it was during the World Cup. Got to watch it with people who live and breathe every touch. And the Dutch where the wildest of the ones on the ship. They could drink beer like fish, and really had fun during games.1 point -

Any truth to the Rumor
Silverbacked1 reacted to HuskerFever for a topic
While technically this is true (the NCAA calls them "preliminary" rounds)...they're still commonly referred to as regionals. The four sites that host 4th/5th rounds host what most refer to as the regional finals. Everybody knows what Bugeaters was talking about. But having that said, is Lincoln even able to host the men's tournament in any capacity? I know that rules dictate a certain number of hotels within a certain radius of the arena, but I don't know if they're over that threshold. I was told that the host city had to have so many Hotels with 24 hr service like restaurants etc. They clearly don't know the Nebraska hospitality. There's plenty of "hotels" and "24 hour service." "Hey guys, welcome to Lincoln. Come and stay at our place. We'll give you free room & board and cook you a nice dinner."1 point -

Petteway Impressed with Newcommers
AuroranHusker reacted to Nebrasketballer for a topic
I think that Tai adding size and strength is a HUGE benefit for Nebraska. There were alot of times that Tai had no problem burning his defender and getting to the basket off of the dribble. The problem was that at times he had a problem finishing at the rim. I think that part of this had to do with the fact that Big Ten / BCS Conference Division I basketball is much more physical than what he was used to playing. I believe that Tai adding size and strength will allow him to be more productive near the rim and finish in the face of contact. I also think most of us would agree that alot of Tai's growing pains this season were a direct result of his confidence on the court. I can't speak for Tai, but for me personally, I made significant gains is both size and strength from my freshman season to my senior season. And that size and strength gain was directly proportional to my increase of confidence. I believe that Tai will make substantial progress from his freshman to his sophomore season and I believe this increase in size and strength will be one of many important factors in his progress.1 point -

Just like in all sports bad calls can hurt, 50-50 ball with the keeper and call it interference. tough to call anything against the host country especially the opening game. And now we get the Brazilian gamesmanship. This the part that I hate about the game, I know it is part of it but...1 point -

I won't speak for Cager but yes I am serious. I don't want it to come across as a slam on Miles, the guy is relentless and busts his backside. But participation ribbons (which is what being second for a kid is) suck, bet Miles would say the same thing, I not a moral victory kind of guy. I do think at some point this staff will find the one kid that will say yes and the flood gates will open.1 point
