this is my leading theory...to much is going on for Tim Miles, not to think he has at least a 80% chance of getting him. I mean were not going have to any big men of comparable size, nor are granting visits at this time to Deng, or Smith again, and we let wacker walk, and let pinder leave w/o a offer...this will be extremely interesting. I'm not sure I follow this reasoning. NU currently has a 6'10" sophmore, a 7'1" sophmore and a 6'8" 255 lb. junioron its roster. Miles has also already received a verbal from a 6'10" center who plays with his back to the basket (same as Robinson). Miles does not need to bring in another stiff big man just to fill a spot. He has the luxury of going after a difference maker like Robinson. If that doesn't pan out, he can look elsewhwere. As things stand now, if Robinson were to commit and Vooch stays on the team next year, NU will have 5 big men on the roster next year, with 3 to 4 of them being true post players. That is a lot of post players. I don't think we can read anything in to who has and who has not visited when it comes to Robinson. using Serj in any argument is going potato when talking about big men.2 points -

I think Pitch and Smith will play important roles for this team, but I surmise that their roles will not be identical. Smith is likely a stronger back to the basket player that will pop out for an occasional 15' jump shot, but more often than not, when he steps out it will be to set a pick. At one point in the srimmage, Smith hoisted a three and Miles was quick to remind him not to fall in love with that shot. Walter can play back to the basket, but he appears much more comfortable in space. I see Walter more active away from the post, and then perhaps flashing there...in fact, if Shavon and Walter are on the floor at the same time, I see Walter taking his man out into space and Shavon posting in the key. Vooch, may play a bit more of a role this year, but man, he still appears lost more often than not. I still see Tyrance playing more of role than Vooch at this point.1 point -

paul pierce, who is comparable to Shavon...played the 2,3,and 4 in the league last season...btw comparable in size, and herky jerky movement not skills. The only comparison between the two is size. Outside of that Shields is merely a small fraction the player Paul pierce is and was.1 point -
As royalfan said, it's more important to be efficient defensively than to give up fewer points. Last year we allowed 1.03 points per possession (10th in the conference). We should hope to improve there.1 point

That's what I'm thinking. I saw they showed Bron Bron at the OSU/UW game saturday night, but I didn't see any 7 foot high school centers anywhere near him... Exactly. Yea, shaq and lebron may show up to these games, but I doubt they want to spend all their time with a 17 year old. Heck, Lebron didn't even go to OSU. How is he suppose to sell them on the program when he never played there? Seriously? Rubbing shoulders with the most popular basketball player of a generation on your recruiting visit is a big deal. Whether he ends up there or not, having him there left an impression, without a doubt. Remember, it all matters.1 point -
Some are saying the longer this goes on the lesser our chances are. But who here thinks its a possibility that Elbert is a silent commit to us? That's my optimistic hypothesis. Kenya Hunter, pushing another big man to commit elsewhere, no other big men being brought in for visits...hmmm. I think he's ours and the coaches already know it.1 point

Shavon officially 6'7 now
Norm Peterson reacted to Huskerpapa for a topic
Nooooooooooo. Nooooo. Noo. No. Nuh-uh. I'm in favor of putting guys into positions they would have at the next level. To give Shavon the best shot of making it to the league, we need him at the 2 (would be my preference) or the 3. He won't get nearly as many looks from pro scouts as a 6'7" PF. Because really, there's no better recruiting tool than to say "See that guy? He came here as a three star and now he's playing in the NBA." KInd of a ying and yang thing Chester. First, to clarify, I do not think Shavon should be in the four position...perhaps once in a while to create match up problems, but certainly not on a regular basis. In my mind Shavon is a three. He lacks a little lateral quickness and would be exposed, at least for now trying to defend the two. However, his size could offset the lack of quickness. But back to your point Chester. I can clearly understand where you are coming from regarding playing him in a position that he may play if he gets to the NBA. Yet, do you not have to do what best fits this team in order to have the highest potential for success? If the team does better, isn't it likely that the player will get longer looks? I do believe Shavon will be a flex-type player. He will play multiple roles on this team because of his BB smarts. Ultimately I think that is good for Shavon as he will gain comfort and confidence no matter where he lines up...1 point -

I am not sure how anyone can accurately project the rotation at this point. Earlier I read that Nathan Hawkins was a candidate to redshirt. Well crap, he looked pretty darn good in the scrimmage. Rivers looked bigger, but what about his health? I think Webster is the real deal, but we have really improved depth. Shoot, I watched the scrimmage and walked away asking myself who the starting five could be...there are a lot of of options which means to me that the next forty days is going to be extremely competitive. The best five will be on the floor, and good luck to the coaches trying to figure out who will make it to that top five.1 point -

Newbie here – first I want to say it’s great to have a site like this for NU hoops – glad I found it in time in time for this season – I love where the program is heading! Had a chance to catch the scrimmage --The Pinn is is a great arena and the surrounding area is very impressive, I loved Devaney, lots of fun memories there, but this is a great time in the progression of the program to move to a new arena & Lincoln did it right --I think the arena has the chance to be really loud – last night it was 1/2 full with most of the people shoving food in their faces, but the sound really bounces around in there – should be a great atmosphere when it’s full --The 4 newcomers all look like they will contribute at this level this season and look like they’re legit “major” conference level players – been a while since we had a recruiting class this large with no obvious “reaches,” long term “projects,” or flat out “misses” --Tai’s scrimmage “winning” shot was a thing of beauty – he looked like he was playing around a lot of the scrimmage, as was everyone, but that last shot was great to see – very confident, very calculated, perfect form, no hesitation in taking that shot, he shot it over Vooch & set him up perfectly so it wouldn’t be blocked. --I liked Hawkins’ athleticism and he’ll play this season, but I think Fuller is going to be more ready to contribute immediately. He looked a bit nervous last night, but he has a great looking 3-point shot. (I admittedly am a bit biased toward lefties though.) Fuller seems to have a great nose for the game, too, just was naturally in the right spot on offense a lot, whether it was spotting up in the corner or sneaking in for an offensive board. As someone mentioned already, both of these guys will benefit greatly from more structure versus what we saw last night. --Petteway struggled but I thought he looked like he had tired legs, so it’s good to read that he was very sharp in the practice before the scrimmage. I thought it was interesting that when he missed that last 3 badly, his teammates still came over and told him to shake it off. That tells me two things – 1, his teammates trust him to take that “winning” shot, and 2, they didn’t think he was overdoing it with all of the shots he was taking throughout the scrimmage. So I guess I’m more likely to believe the feelings of the players who’ve seen him for a full year in practices & pick-up games & trust him, versus an “off” 25 minutes. If he hadn’t been gassed, I think we would’ve seen more drives to the basket, and that part of his game was strong in the couple of times he did it. My biggest concern right now would be how we match up with the size and bulk in the Big Ten – Pitchford is incredibly athletic, but I’m a little worried he may struggle down low versus very physical players, especially on defense – Smith looks more ready for a physical-style game – if we just had one more physical big, this team would be really tough. I also don’t see any way Vooch helps this team this year, if ever. He still isn’t anywhere near strong enough with the ball down low. There were stretches where Kurkowski outplayed him, I thought. Anyway great again to find this site – very nice to have a place to read & discuss NU hoops - I probably won’t post a while lot, but when I do, I’ll probably overdo it like this one.1 point -
That's what she said. Wow I had to wait a long time for that. I figured somebody would snap back with that within a few minutes. Just like Grandpa.1 point

Someone already touched on this, but I wanted to back it up since it seems to have been overlooked. We got there around 5:15-5:30 while the "actual" practice was still going on.. Petteway was by far the best player on the court. Getting to the rim with ease, rebounding, and hitting damn near every shot. Also no surprise that things looked sloppy tonight, Miles had them working their asses off in the first practice. Push ups after every turnover, suicides for the defense when they allowed transition (I think, not totally sure) points, etc. Glad Shavon is okay. From my seat, it was a nasty fall. Visions of another broken hip screwing up a promising player's career.1 point -

Searching 4 Chester Surles reacted to leonidas for a topic
There's barely anything negative on the recruiting forum and what little there is, it pales in comparison to the positive talk. A recruit likes to read good things about them. It took a while for me to first realize there was a recruiting forum because it was hidden until I logged on. If I'm a recruit and visit this site coupled with visiting huskersonline.com and can't find anything at all about me, I may very well think, "Those other fan bases are right. Nebraska fans really don't care about basketball." Why hide the passion that NU fans have? Why allow a recruit to think, "Hell, they don't even know who I am." We already fight the perception that NU doesn't care about basketball. If a recruit visits this site, doesn't see a post about them and doesn't realize there's a recruiting forum, that just reinforces that perception.1 point -

Great post. Those two are awful. They are basically both robots that know nothing about basketball. Sharp is a Bo Pelini fanboy and Benning has the charisma of a slab of concrete. Sharp also thinks telling the same stories about how he almost flunked out of Nebraska is high comedy. I missed this interview because I gave up on that show over a year ago. Especially when compared to their predecessors' show, the slow is a snooze fest.-1 points -
