Here's the latest from Robin on Webster: • Nebraska is waiting on the NCAA's calculation of his transcripts from New Zealand HS. • He's taken the SAT twice and will take it two more times as a precaution. • If he doesn't get cleared, there are other options to get him qualified. Robin says there are no concerns about his qualification status and that they expect him to be in Lincoln in June for summer school.5 points -

You can't completely get rid of charges or you would have guys plowing over people to get to the basket. What needs to be changed is when someone takes a charge while the offensive guy is the in the air. You can't just slip in front of a guy a split second before he is about to go up for a layup. It is impossible for the offensive guy to avoid contact when he is in the air. I don't think so. Defenders would adjust. There wouldn't be be anyone standing under the rim or sliding under the ball handler from the under side of the lane. Defenders would actually have to defend. There could be an adjustment to compensate if necessary, but the Craft play or even the one on Zeller today, neither actually played defense, they stood there and collapsed when contact came. Play defense, contest the ball, don't play tackling dummy. The line was designed to keep people from standing under the basket and getting rewarded. Forcing people to play defense as you say. Imo if you get rid of the charge rule the defense couldn't adjust. When you needed freethrows your point could just come down and ram into his defender and you're on your way to the foul line. Working hard and beating an offensive player to a spot IS playing defense. And the idea of someone coming from the under side of the lane, they have a name for that - help defense. Then create a rule that doesn't allow you to lower the shoulder. They're making rules like that all the time. They could do it here, too. Make that the offensive foul, dropping the shoulder and ramming the defender. But to slide over stiff as a board and not make a "basketball play" isn't how the game is supposed to be played. Semantically, you're right, it's within the rules, but it's not basketball, or at least it shouldn't be. It's devolved to the point where a guy who comes over to "defend" so late that offensive player has no chance to react isn't what the game is supposed to be. It's a game of action and reaction. It's a rigid play, basketball isn't supposed to be rigid, it's supposed to be a fluid sport. What Craft did was not work hard to beat him to the spot. What Zeller did after his turnover was not beat his guy to the spot. Both plays manifestation of a bad rule and the devolution of the sport, IMO. Craft was in the restricted area and if you can go to the moniter to check the line on three point shots, they ought to be able to do the same to check the restriction line. I actually remember there being a lot more charges called back in the day myself then there are today. And we are just going to have to disagree, I think beating a player to the spot and sacrificing your body IS a basketball player. Sliding under the already airbourne offensive player means you did not beat him to the spot and it should be called a blocking foul. If you want to talk flopping, that's another topic. I don't know if it still is, but simulation used to be a technical foul. Call that once and awhile and you could clean up the flopping pretty quickly. My teams practiced how to take a charge without hurting yourself. Personally I see the problem the other way. I see a lot of fouls called on the defense that I think are bailing out an out of conrol driver. I would prefer those to be no calls. If you are in control and have body control, you can avoid the charge. If you are out of control the defense should be able to take advantage of your mistake. I do have a problem with officials being influenced by who instead of what. Craft gets ridiculous calls that he doesn't deserve because he is Craft. Micheal Jordan's last shot in his last championship game against Utah - HE FOULED BYRON RUSSELL. That was a push off that would have been called in a heartbeat if it was the other way around. I don't think we want to get into "how the game was meant to be played." Have you read Naismith's original 13 rules? None of this is how the game was originally meant to be played. And I know its not what you meant at all and you've clearified you position in later posts, but technically your first post would have made a moving screen legal as well.2 points -
Agree. Wisconsin and Nebraska should compare favorably to Michigan and Ohio State. Michigan was everybody's favorite at the start of the season but they weren't exactly a powerhouse all year. Michigan State is like Iowa, contending every 3-4 years. Penn State isn't going to be a power for a while. The rest are fair to bad. I don't think the balance is that off. If it winds up in five years that there is a marked difference they will reconsider it, especially when we add 15-16. For once this is a plan that actually considers travel for athletes and fans. Hopefully it carries over to other sports.2 points

I could see the argument with 3 to 4 years though, if WHEN Tim has the success here that we know he will, he will still be sought from bigger and better. Now last year, I am not so sure that Minny would of pulled the trigger on Miles. I think Minny would of looked for Shaka and some bigger and better before Miles. Miles would of been a hotter get this year than last, so I am not so sure he would of ended up at Minnesota last year had they fired Tubbby. Wanna bet. I'm friends with his sister.1 point -

You don't think he would want to stay in the Big Ten with the success the conference has had during the season and in the NCAA Tourney? You could very well be right, but I would think that Miles would give it another shot, especially since it doesn't seem like he is one of the recruits that won't give Nebrasketball a chance because of the Nebraska winter weather. I mean if he was fine with Minnesota winter weather, then Nebraska would be a step in the warmer direction. The other advantage I could see with Miles is that he has at least some sort of relationship already established with him, because he has recruited him. The new Minnesota coach might not have been in contact with him at all. So there's that I guess. Also, since his other 2 finalists were Tennessee and Auburn, when Foster committed to Minnesota, I'm sure that Tennessee and Auburn continued recruiting other players on their list. Do they even have a spot left for him? Maybe there isn't a spot for him at those schools anymore. I have no idea. Just throwing that out there. If we sign Atewe and Sai... we do not have a spot for him...1 point -

I'd be surprised since he shot down Illinois last year and VCU gave him that raise. Yeah, but the A10 is blowing up. Xavier and Butler are leaving this summer and St Louis and either Dayton or Richmond could be leaving the next summer. Maybe the instability of the A10 makes him a little more willing to look around? What looked like a great long term move last year suddenly seems significantly less secure. Good point. It's possible he jumps this year, but like someone else said UCLA would be the better gig. Speaking of Butler, does their coach finally leave this year? Butler just moved from the Horizon to the A-10 to the Big East. Why would he leave now?1 point -

Its a good thing this happened this year and not last year and not 3 or 4 years from now or we wouldn't have a Tim Miles. He thought he'd probably end up in Minn someday coaching and it was his destination job. He and his family were very disappointed when they extended Tubby's contract and said he'd be coaching there again this year. I hope that has changed now that he's in the B10 and only in year one.1 point -

Yeah, I don't know about that. They have two PFs committed who had very legit sets of offers coming out of HS including one we were trying to get. They also have a 2-guard/wing who, while he didn't have great offers has some pretty good film and shows exceptional range, very quick wind-up and release and just a nice overall jumpshot plus some ability to penetrate and pass. Solid looking prospect for them. According to the White and Blue Review, the kid (the guard/wing) averaged 23 pts/8 bds/6 assists as a junior. Damn good numbers. Probably a better shooter than Nathan Hawkins. And on par with Hawkins athletically. So, I don't think you can say that Creighton's recruiting is going badly. But, at the end of the day, none of these kids are any substitute for Doug McDermott. That's a void they won't fill with just one guy. (Edited to add: Also, according to the W&B Review, the guard/wing kid had an offer from us. Did not know that. Rivals doesn't show it. W&B also says he had an OU offer, which Rivals doesn't show.)1 point -

Okay ive read some things in this thread that I think need to be corrected.. 1) I'm not sure how many people actually read the article but the Coach (Breakers coach Andrei Lemanis) actually said that staying in New Zealand is a "solid alternative" to the college system. Some players may suit the college route and others might suit the pro route. I believe this is true. Anyway what coach doesn't believe his system is the best? http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10871634 2) Jonny Flynn is not the front runner for MVP. In fact it was given out 2 days ago, Cedric Jackson won it, he plays for the NZ Breakers (same team as Tai) and was on the Spurs Summer League team last year. 3) Shawn Redhage was definitely not on the last Australian Olympic team. He is the 3rd or 4th best player on his pro team in the Australian League. 4) The Australian league is not that bad haha. Over the last few years a few guys have got drafted out of it, and a whole lot more have had NBA camp invites or summer league spots. Don't kill me for this but I think the NZ Breakers would probably beat Nebraska. Hoping this clears up some confusion. I hope Tai does go to Nebraska just in case you wondered though1 point -

It is what it is. It matters to some kids and not so much to others. I'd say Louisville doesn't have to worry about it because they have Pitino. If you have a living legend, shoe deals probably don't matter as much. In other words, you are overstating it. Show tie-ins are just another arrow in the quiver. You lay out your entire package and one kid cares about who the coach is, another kid cares about where he fits in the offense, another kid wants the best weather, another kid wants games on TV, another kid wants to play close to home, and another kid wants a particular shoe. Hell, with teenagers, the school with the hottest and easiest girls could be the most important thing.... Personally, I purchase whatever shoes are on sale when I need them. Then again, I'm not a sneakerhead.1 point -
i hate throwing the i know a guy whos knows stuff card, but one of my best friends his a athletic trainer for creighton, he gets pretty close with the players naturally, and he swears that doug stated he is coming back next year, to get bigger, and show he can compete with better competition. For my two cents, i dont think he really helps them next year more so than he could this year, unless Artino and Wragge make significant jumps in their games that i dont really see happening. I think we win next year, the balence of power shifts.1 point

He just doesnt tweet that much but if you look at who he follows it is the kids Nebraska is attempting to recruit so my guess is he uses direct messages on there to contact these guys. He also doesnt want much attention as you have to request to follow him unlike the other 3 that tweet much more often.1 point -
Next Year Huskers vs Jays
Norm Peterson reacted to GoBigRed for a topic
It's a weird situation. Doug has to know there is no better time for him to go pro than now. Creighton will not be as good next year. Doug might still put up numbers next year, but he's going to have to scratch and claw for them against better competition. Look at last night: 4-16 FG, 12-12 FT, 21 points, 9 rebounds. Next year against Georgetown, Marquette, Villanova, Xavier, Butler...going to be tougher without a veteran PG like Gibbs and a huge man down low like Echinique. Whether he was skilled or not, he was a big body who attracted attention away from Doug. But at the same time, he has to know if he leaves the Jays will blow next year and his dad will have to take the brunt of that. I'm sure his dad selfishly wants him to stay, but I really don't think it's in the best interest of his career. He is a 2nd round projection right now in a weak draft class. Sticking around for next year might push him to the bottom of or out of the draft. I think we lose a close one if McDermott stays. We might sneak out a win if he leaves. Creighton fans think their recruiting is going great, but I'm not so convinced. Their guards look very average AT BEST to me. They aren't athletic or talented enough to hang with the teams mentioned above. I think Creighton is really in for a rude awakening. They are used to finishing 1-2 in their conference every year and making the dance. Just because you are in a power conference doesn't mean you are dancing with a middle of the pack team (like Iowa). You still need to perform extremely well against good competition in the non-conference (Illinois, Minnesota). I can't foresee Creighton finishing ahead of Georgetown, Marquette, Xavier, Butler, Villanova. That's a 6th place finish at best in a 10-team conference. That's not going to cut it.1 point -

reminds me of playing ball over in Russia. I spent 5 years playing minor league baseball and was always around a 4+ era in most of those years. Russia wanted me to come over and play in their league to make their players better in anticipation of the olympic trials that fall. I went over there and was like Roger Clemens and Nolan Ryan on a regular basis. My only loss was a 1-0 loss to my roommate and groomsman because he threw a no-hitter against my team (he was undrafted and only ever played independent baseball like the Saltdogs). There's a reason our country is the best of the best when it comes to the big 3 sports.1 point -

There are tons of very compelling matchups in the sweet 16. First, it's a veritable who's who of college basketball royalty with Kansas, Michigan, Duke, Michigan State, Arizona, Ohio State, Indiana and Syracuse in there. Heck even Florida and Marquette are no slouches. You have Indiana - Syracuse, a rematch of the 87 championship...one of the best games ever played. The Midwest region is stupid, with Louisville, Oregon, MSU and Duke. Should be excellent. The Wichita State/La Salle winner with a legit shot at a final 4 berth? And of course, how can you NOT want to watch FGCU? They ACTUALLY play the style of ball that every other coach pretends to want to play when they're recruiting 4 start point guards out of South Sioux. (sorry, Norm)1 point -
