  1. Agree. Not only was I encouraged by a 2 point home victory, I was exhilerated. Ecstatic. I resolve to enjoy every game we are even in. Against anyone. Don't care if it is 300 RPI team. Any game we can win is fantastic. More than ever I can overlook the problems and enjoy anything good that happens. At any one time, there are usually 2 or 3 guys on the floor who aren't remotely high division 1 players. I mean, seriously, when Ubel gets triple teamed, what does that tell you about the talent on the floor? The laast couple years we had guys lamenting that Mike Fox got minutes. Well, we have guys way worse than him getting significant minutes, and would have 2 or 3 "Foxes" on the court at any one time. Enjoy EVERY single win this year. I was thrilled to see the defensive game plan unfold last night. The effort of the guys. What a great night. I still would take the unders if the over/unders line was 1 in conference. But I look forward to watching the effort, the improvement, and the Rudy's on the floor, no matter what happens.

  2. For those hoping for a large and rowdy crowd on 12-3 (presumably to impress Tai), remember the football Huskers will most likely be playing in the B1G championship game two days earlier. I think it would be fair to say there may be a bit of a Husker hangover after that game (win or lose) and it may affect the hoops crowd some. Like it or not, until conference basketball season begins, hoopyball will take a back seat to football, and crowds will be smaller and less involved. It is just the way it is. But, in all fairness we must understand that this is the way it is at lots of places. Heck, I watched some of the 'Zona and UTEP game last night and it appeared that McKale was only about 2/3 full. And the U of A is in the top 15, playing against a UTEP team that doesn't exactly suck. So, while I agree, it's hard to understand why some folks can't stick it out for the last 5 minutes or so of the game, I don't think our situation is terribly unique.

  4. They want to beat the horrid traffic in the so called parking lots. And those people are dumb arse's in my book just saying

  5. It makes no sense to leave early. Even with that horrible parking situation last night. What's the deal with only one way out? Is that whole area going to be cage off the rest of the year? They couldn't wait till after the season? The people that are there I would consider die hards. I don't care about the people that didn't show up. Hell Ive had season tickets for 5 years and always move down to a certain section because those seats are never taken unless it's a big game. Don't show up, I don't care. But don't jump on the bandwagon when it turns around and act like you've always been there. What does leaving ten minutes early do? Seriously, kids, age, whatever...I don't think that extra ten minutes did anything for you. Most of the people I assume are from Lincoln unlike me who come from Omaha. I could care less about an extra ten minutes. I was more worried about them hitting that last second shot. Tickets are so cheap and I was so upset the crowd was so quiet last night in a close game and a game where the fans really could of helped out. Oh, and anyone else notice the keyboard in the band? How annoying was that? Sounded like an xylophone. Anyway, that's my rant. Thanks B.R. And I agree the Redzone was good. Love the U and the bell pic. Also the Miles head was great.

  6. I normally don't get that worked up over the issue, but last night, the departures at the 4 minute media timeout made me crazy. Love Nebraskans--"it's a late game with that 8:00 p.m. tipoff, I gotta go!" Wow,, what's a few minutes lost sleep to watch the end of a close game where we had a chance to beat a better team. Frankly, the cchance to watch any win this year is a special occasion. On a better note, I thought the Red Zone did pretty good last night.

  7. Let's look at the bright side. Instead of fans leaving because they knew we were going to blow the lead. Fans are now leaving because they knew with a 4 point lead and 2 mins left. We had it in the bag!

  8. This is why I love this site. Good banter about a fairly touchy subject and it being handled in a respectful way. Many on here are willing to listen to the other and respond with out getting too personal. Much like Congress and the Senate.

  9. Seems to me like, while the team is still learning the new scheme, the Red Zone is in mid-season form from the start!

  10. Talley struggled offensively but his defense, rebounding, and passing played a huge part in the win tonight. holding valpo's best player to 8 points isn't something to ignore

  11. That's the saddest part of this story. They used her mom's maiden name for her middle name. Wait for it...... Moore.

    Most encouraging thing

Miles understands defensive rotations very well. Like his scheme a lot. It is good to see he understands this aspect of the game as well as he does. It will be needed to win here. That is the best thing I can take away. We won't be a sacraficial lamb at the arc like Doc's help just to help scheme.

  13. 1. Andre needs to get better shots. His hook is going to be so inconsistent all year -- guarantee it. He needs to use his big body, soft hands, and skill to shot fake, pivot, shot fake, get guys up in the air and either get easy lay-ups or get to free throw line. That hook is going to fail him too often. We absolutely need Big-Andre to be a 12 and 8 player for us. 2. Dylan Talley cannot have nights like that. End of discussion. 3. Poor execution (in my opinion), on the free throw at the end of the game. You have to have a couple people up on the paint to get in front of people and make that 3 harder. He got a free release and free look at the hoop -- that goes in, and a lot of people are very pissed right now at that execution, guarantee it. That's all I got... Didn't get to see a ton of the game -- but, one other thing... We might not be that bad this year. Maybe. Possibly. Heck, who knows.

  14. The game is funny. Valpo missed at least 4 or 5 uncontested lay-ups that the defense had nothing to do with. They make those and we lose by eight. Nothing else would have changed but the tone of this board would have been completely different because the lens we would be looking at the game would be completely different. I enjoyed the beginnings of the motion offense. Imo the big problem now is the familiarity and confidence in the offense. The key to motion has to be if the guy guarding you can't, go get a lay-up. There were several times players had lanes to the basket and weren't willing or didn't have the confidence to take them. Rivers was the most obvious. Valpo figured it out and weren't even positionally taking away his driving lanes, they knew after awhile he just wasn't going to go. I appreciated the defensive effort, but there were too many uncontested lay-ups given. If they shoot a normal percentage for them, and the defense looks a whole lot more porous. I really enjoyed watching the game and think that Nebraska will be a fun team to watch in the future.

  15. This discussion has been going on since the Huskers moved to the Devaney Center. I went to several games at the Coliseum, and I don't remember people leaving early. I think it's all about the location of the BDSC and the crappy parking they've always had there. I doubt it's an issue when they move to the new arena. So, since this has been happening for the last 37 years, why now does Rosenthal bring it up? I think he's running out of things to talk about. BTW, I've only left early once during a close game. Don't remember the year, but it was a Collier team. We let K-State back in the game to force overtime. My son and I left at the beginning of the overtime hoping to change the Huskers luck. Needless to say, the Collier influence was too powerful to overcome.

  16. "Honestly", no, I'm not suggesting they would rather be elsewhere. I am suggesting that they should get the respect of the fan base for putting the hard work in. Hardwork meaning going to the classes that you suggest and earning a good grade while also having the rigors of going to practice daily and being away from home so often while competing during the season. Wearing that uniform you suggest with the upmost pride and trying to represent the University of Nebraska in the best manner possible, win or lose. The least some of these so-called-fans, and I say "some" loosely, is show them the respect and stay for those last five minutes and applaud them for the hard work they have put into being a student-athlete!!! Let me also add in, so no-one thinks I am "suggesting" anything, that this is not directed at all fans!!!

  17. This is one of my biggest pet peeve's with the Nebraska BBall crowd! I posted something on it last year also and got reemed for it. But IDC and will say it again. Stay home and watch the damn game on TV if you dont want to be there! Trust me, as a loyal season ticket holder, we will not miss you!! Half those people have no idea about the game of bball anyways and are extremely annoying to listen to or they block the view of the respectful fans that are still there trying to support their team! The players notice those crappy fans leaving with 5 minutes left in a game. No matter if it is a dogfight or not. At least give the players the respect they deserve and finish the game just like they have to!!!!!!!!

  18. I loved the rant and agree with it. I know that there are good reasons why some may have to leave early...I get it. But there are also many excuses/reasons that simply do not make sense to me. But then again, there are a lot of people (including my wife) who think my dedication to Husker Hoops deserves a place in a very well-padded room.

  19. I expressed this same basic sentiment a year ago and got ripped for it. Among other comments, I was told, "As soon as they put a product on the floor worth watching, we'll stay until the end of the game to watch it." I even found an article on a study that performed a chicken-versus-egg analysis and concluded that passion of the fanbase begets success on the floor moreso than success on the floor begets passion in the fan base. In other words, the first thing is that you need to create a winning environment and the winning will follow. And so I got ripped for being a "Doc apologist" but that doesn't change the fact that Devaney is just as much of a morgue for Tim Miles as it ever was for Doc Sadler. Maybe someday people will quit making excuses for why they don't go and cheer and just admit that they're apathetic no matter who the coach is.

  21. Here is the whole part about the fans: -- Finally, you may have seen my Twitter rant on fans leaving a single-digit game with five minutes to play. I know it’s nothing new here, and I know it’s not just with basketball, or just at Nebraska. It’s still perplexing, though. I can better understand that only 6,324 fans/spectators showed up, given the current state of affairs, than understand why only 5,000 of them, maybe, were around for the end. If you’re going to show up, why not stick around until the end – when, of course, it’s a close game, and when this team needs support the most? Other than maybe having a 4-year-old that needs bedtime, I’ve yet to hear a reasonable excuse. And the people I saw leaving Thursday night haven’t had a 4-year-old in about 30 years. Fans can question Nebraska’s commitment to basketball all they want, but there’s not much room to talk when they’re not committing, either. Want to prove commitment? Show up to the Dec. 3 game against USC, when Nebraska will have a highly-coveted 4-star guard on campus who’s committed, but not yet signed. Or maybe Tai Webster can witness 2,000 spectators of a crowd of 6,000 leave in the final minutes of a two-possession game. What an impression that would make! And then I’ll get to hear how Nebraska can never land a four-star player. End of rant. I do side with him on this. As we win more will start to come back to the games, always have, always will. But to leave early, If you does not have a conflict, is; in my opinion, disrespectful of the players. Just my $.02 worth.

  23. I think that there is a respect between the team and the coaches. Also seems to be a good comfort level. The biggest difference this year can be summed up in one play last night. I looked down and 3 coaches were standing and coaching/teaching, and Miles was not one of them. He was down the line talking to a player he had just taken out. Feels more like a group effort in coaching. You don't see that much on any teams. I like it.

  24. Here is what I see as the most encouraging thing so far about Miles' coaching: Players are not looking over their shoulder. A shooter has to shoot and get in the flow. Gallegos is not playing like is afraid to get pulled for making a mistake. Part of it is maybe that he knows there are not many other options, but part of it is Miles. I think Miles will still chew some butt when necessary, but I also see more teaching, encouraging. The philosophy of players make plays combined with the new facilities is what will bring kids to Nebraska. I liked Doc alot and still do, so I don't want to want to turn this into a Doc versus Tim thread, but I loved the confidence and players having fun that I saw last night. Confidence is a contagious thing and while players like Ubel and Lance Jeter could probably give you there best under any coach, some personalities need to not be constantly thinking about what mistake they are going to make next and if they will disappear on the bench after they make it. Substitutions were made based on keeping players fresh, keeping them from fouling out, match-ups and a just an overall nice rotation. In the past when players would disappear for the rest of the game or get unexpected big chunks of head scratching playing time I think it was not a good thing.

  25. Dylan seemed to stop going for the basket after he blew the dunk--too bad on that because he made a really nice move to the basket on that play. It would have been the highlight reel of the game, had it gone in!

  26. He did but the flip side of that is they held our best player to 1 point.

  31. Talley commits a dangerous foul with 3.3 seconds left. Valpo shooting one... And the bonus. Made it. 50-48. Almeida was fouled... and there's 1.7 seconds left. YAY--I have a chance to get -25 on HHCC! First shot misses... and the desperation shot misses. 50-48 is your final, and I get an excellent HHCC score!

  34. I thought the Fonda Dicks thing was BS until I looked it up. There actually was a girl from Moravia named Fonda Dicks. unreal. Turns out she married a guy named Randy Peters. Now she's Fonda Peters. Doesn't that girl have a middle name she could go by?
    1 point
  35. That's how they did it back in the day when Fonda Dicks was playing offense for Moravia. Fonda was a scoring legend back in the day. i think she had at least 10 games with 60 or more points. She's probably still the school's all-time career scoring leader. Needless to say, Fonda got married soon after high school.

  39. I guess I don't understand getting so upset over someone who wants to go home when he wants to go home. Have none of you ever left before something was over? I've left movies before they were over. I've left parties before they were over. I've left concerts before they were over. I've left football and basketball games before they were over. Why? Either I had somewhere else to be or I had spent all the energy I was going to on said event. For something as simple as attending a sporting event, I guess I don't see the need for questioning people's motives. I guess that makes me an idiot.

  40. And ten minutes of game time turns into 45 minutes of parking lot time. I don't care one bit if people leave early. I assume they have a legitimate reason to be heading out. That reason outweighs the reason to stay. I can't fault someone for that.
