Aguek Arop, F (Omaha South): The Nebraska pledge was up and down this weekend, finishing with two points in one game and zero in another. But he showed up big-time in the championship game. Arop was efficient offensively, scoring 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. But on defense, he was an absolute force. At 6-feet-5, he is capable of guarding basically every position at the AAU level. He moves his feet incredibly well and his length makes him nearly impossible to complete a pass against when he’s engaged in denial. Like his teammate Wingett, Arop also threw down one of the biggest dunks of the weekend, catching the ball on the wing, attacking the basket and throwing down with both hands over a defender who rotated over to contest.

That report to me, sounds like a recent former Husker commit Keanu Pinder. An offensive enigma of sorts but a defensive stalwart.

The Winnabago are not part of the Lakota nation, though I believe their languages are related.

I have no idea how good the competition is, but Wingett is playing well so far.

 

Through 5 games, he's the teams leading scorer by a lot. He's 30/39 from 3!!!. He's actually shooting better from outside the arc than inside it. He's the 3rd leading rebounder on the team. 2/1 Assist-to-turnover ratio.

Were grades/academics an issue for him coming out of high school? Is that why he wasn't highly recruited?

 

Assuming that stuff is in order, I'd love to have him in the program next year!

37-49 now!  101/133 all together!  I don't care what the competition is, you don't shoot 75%+ unless you are a dominant player.  Sign this kid ASAP!

I watched 4:50 and I saw enough.  I will start off with saying I would love to get this kid here.  I think offensively, he is there.  I think he would be ok after a year or two.  He won’t come in and play right away.  So he will have to want to wait for his time.

 

With that being said, he is not getting to be a better basketball player with where he is currently at.  Not if every game he plays is like that.  That was an absolute pathetic display of basketball.  So they don’t play D... that’s like summer leagues... except this makes summer leagues look like a lock down defensive leagues.

 

Not only that, it isn’t even really basketball.  They don’t shoot free throws.  They have 1 referee.  Everything was lazy.  Passes, shots, defense, even the dang referee.  If I need to watch more, let me know.  Because the 5 minutes I saw left a really bad taste in my mouth.  Really bad.

Offensively he’s definitely got talent. But I really worry about the effort he shows. He’s in complete control of that aspect and he’s showing no effort unless it’s to score. 

 

This would be very concerning to me if I was a coach.

Same concerns.  However, when everyone is playing with the same or even less effort, it’s tough to tel for him.  Honestly, he probably got more out of C1 ball in Nebraska than what he’s doing now.  At least C1 will throw an effort challenge out there.

Someone like coach Smith at USD will take a chance on him and he'll tear it up at the mid major level. That's where I see him fitting. Kind of like Daum.

5 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Some of the worst basketball at the prep level I've ever seen.

 

That's what I imagine things would look like if half your army unit showed up for 5 a.m. PT hungover and they made you play basketball.
