Illinois Pregame talk

This may be an important game for our two Illinois freshmen (Morrow and Watson) and our incoming recruit (Roby).  Future recruits could look at our newly renewed Illinois pipeline along with a hopeful win and see us a prime landing spot.

A couple of things I know at the moment.

 

Illinois had a "bye week". They didn't play a game this Tues-Thursday. They've had a week to gameplan for us

Students are travelling to this game. Not sure on a head count but we will have a presence there this week.

We may have more students at this game than Illinois.  Their students are not back from break yet and this game is not part of their ticket plan.

They say "cocky".  I say hopeful.  If we as fans went into every game expecting to lose then what is the point of being a fan of that team.  Having said that I am a realist and honestly I can realistically see a way that we "can" win this game.  Is it likely given our past history on the road? Maybe not.  But it won't stop me from believing that we can win every game we go into.  

 

Also, if I had to guess 90% of the people of the Illinois message board are already chalking this one up as a win just because we're Nebraska and they're Illinois.  So would they like to be the pot or the kettle...

I'm not sure I have ever seen the word "cocky" used on the HHC board. Just too many posters ready to jump all over that one. So let's all give a big "that's what she said" to all the folks in Illinois.

How did we defend Malcolm Hill last year? Did we just stick Petteway on him?

To me how we defend Hill and/or keep him off the FT line will determine who wins this game.

Also, nobody gets to the rim for these guys consistently with Thome out.

I read recently in a thread on another board that shall remain nameless that Ed Morrow's natural position was at the three.  Just to illustrate how out of position he was playing the Center spot.

 

I mean, and that was from a mod.

I probably should know this but I can't seem to find anything.  Outside of the press guide, is there any site on the net that keeps track of history of Basketball programs?  I guess specifically, is there anywhere on the net that you can find out a teams record against other schools and what the scores were?  This is the first year out of the past 30 that I have yet to pick up a press guide.

Up until last weekend, when they put the screws to Purdue I would have agreed with you Handy.

Cocky?  Not Hardly!  Just call me a Proud 'Homer' (never daunted by the odds).   Besides I (almost ) never predict against the Huskers.

My Uncle actually played Varsity on the 1921 Men's Basketball Team!

Excellent detective work. Illini were obviously hung over for the first game. Seems like a quick turnaround for those days. Must have hitched a ride with Lindberg.
