Alright, this is stream of consciousness style. These are my thoughts, as they happen, they aren't analysis and at the end result, may or may not make sense or be relevant, I'm just hitting post as soon as the game ends.

1st half:

- Seems sleepy in Iowa City tonight.

- First foul on Shavon seemed a little ticky-tack.

- The Benny Train keeps on rolling.

- Bit of a cheap foul on Jacobsen.

- Defense playing well early. Rebounding, too.

- Looked lost on the shot clock violation.

- Not used to the other team starting slow like this.

- Tai Webster, ladies and gentlemen!

- Uthoff is going to be trouble for NU.

- McVeigh didn't handle the press very well.

- Iowa woke up. NU gonna have to answer.

- I like Tai's aggressiveness, hitting those early threes really opening things up, though later Iowa clamped down a bit inside.

- Watson seeing things pretty well, will help if guys hit their shots when he finds them wide open.

- Gotta find ways to get White open. He's not going to create for himself.

- Morrow looking strong on the boards. I like it.

- Iowa really pushes the ball after makes, huh. I'd like to see us do that more, honestly.

- NU's intensity is good. Moving a little fast, maybe at times, focus a little lacking a bit on occasion.

- I like that we saw some time with more than one of Morrow, McVeigh and Jacobsen on the floor at the same time.

- NU racking up the fouls on this aggressive Iowa offensive. NU needs to do more of that.

- Why are we picking up the ball one step over mid-court on the pressure?

- McVeigh missed two or three wide open threes in the corner.

- That charge on White was pretty easy to see coming...

- They got open looks, just didn't knock 'em down.

- 12 straight missed shots to end the half...goodness...

- After starting the game on a 10-0 run, Iowa responded with a 31-12 finish to end the half. What's frustrating is that they got open looks. A lot of them, they just missed them.

- Webster missed some at the rim. Uthoff is not letting NU finish anything. This isn't setting up well for NU gotta find a way to get a quick start to the 2nd and knock down open looks.

2nd Half:

- Jacobsen had a nice defensive stretch to start the 2nd half. Woodbury just made a play.

- Having Shields on the floor makes such a big difference. Gotta hit the free throws, though.

- Is Uthoff a model of what they hope McVeigh develops into.

- Does Webster air ball the most layups of anyone in college basketball?

- Just not able to make any headway...

- Every opportunity to cut the lead to 10, they missed. They had chances to get there...

- Morris is praising Morrow's defense. He really is getting better down there.

- Even though it didn't count, you know that dunk felt good for Morrow...

- And now they cut it to 8! Don't tease me like this!

- Free throws might be a big story line to this one...

- Parker, White and Shields all in foul trouble. That can't happen.

- Morrow's best game as a Husker?

- Iowa basically just toyed with NU tonight.

- I stopped taking notes after Iowa went up 15...

- I thought Tai had an extremely good game tonight.  Well done.

- We had a stretch in the first half where we missed 12 straight shots.  Folks, that simply cannot happen in big boy basketball

- Like it or not, Iowa is a good basketball team.  And they were at home.

- Foul disparity is certainly a topic for angst/discussion

- I felt better with todays outcome then I did after the Northwestern or Indiana game.

- We still make too many little mistakes that lead to the results we saw again tonight...missed lay ups, allowing second chance points, silly fouls, missed free throws, not getting back on defense, forgetting assignments...if we overcome those issues, then we have a greater chance at winning.

- ...and yes, Morrow was much more active tonight.

The announcers were saying the best chance we have for wins are our next 2 games.

Easily. Illinois is certainly winnable, too. Then @ MSU before Michigan comes to town. 4 of 5 are certainly winnable. Not sure we're good enough to pull that off.

Probably 50/50 vs Rutgers on the road. Minnesota we should beat at home....but, you know Samford. Going to be tough to get to 5 conference wins though and improve off last years record.

That run by Iowa at the end of the half is what did us in as it turned out.  Besides that, we didn't play that bad.  Iowa could have run away with it but we didn't let them, and I'd say we played fairly good d against them.

Also could have been a different game if McVeigh makes those corner shots.

I don't see us looking by anybody during conference like we have in the non conference in the last couple of years. Plus I will say that in the end Samford will end up being a pretty good team.

Another decent effort.  Just not enough fire power, and experience.

Really could have used Tai's scoring against Northwestern and Indiana.  Nevertheless, it was nice to see tonight.

The difference was the 12 - 0 run at the end of half.  We lose by 11.

Iowa has way too much talented experience.  Uthoff and Gessell were too much.

Woodbury is not a very good basketball player.  2 - 7 from the floor.  8 points 6 rebounds against Nebraska in 31 minutes from a big man.

Need better ball movement.  8 assists on 25 makes.  Not good enough.  Need to get that up to 50% IMO.

One of the better teams we will face on the road.  Just need to give this effort every night, and good things will happen.

Need to go back to work, and get one of these.  We need to win Saturday to get a little more pep in our step.

Another thought, if Watson, McVeigh, Watson and Morrow are patient and stick it out all 4 years, they could be what Iowa is with Uthoff, Gessell, Woodbury and Jok. I really believe that.

Watson must be really  good, but I agree.  I just hope it doesn't take that long, and Morrow is better than Woodbury.  Woodbury is not a very good basketball player.

Didn't get to watch any of it tonight (calling high school games).  But the final was a lot closer than I thought it would be...if that means anything.

Losing by 11 on the road to a ranked team...it could have been a hell of a lot worse.

Hope you are right....it will be hard for the above players to be highly effective if Miles can't land a big man IMO. Also, Iowa has been a solid to very good offensive team under Fran. Not sure we will ever be able to say that under Miles.

I would take that any day. Iowa's senior class post season experience looks like this

2013: NIT FINALS

2014: NCAA TOURNEY (1st Round L)

2015: NCAA TOURNEY (1st round W)

2016: ?

Jacobson as a sophomore will be better than Woodbury as a senior.

Offensively....maybe.  Defensively he has a long ways to go.  Now, if we could only find our Jarrod Uthoff.

Extraneous question of the day: If Doc had closed the deal on Gessell, I wonder how many more victories he would have made? I'm guessing no more that a half dozen, but it might have made given Doc an extra year here, so that might have made it a negative in the long run. At any rate, he wouldn't have been the true "difference maker" we really need here.

Zero...I don't think gaining the commitment of Gessell would have saved Doc from getting fired.  Surely would have helped Miles though as the PG position has been bad under him.

I really liked how Morrow played - he had some confidence, didn't fall for shot fakes as often on defense, had a nice blocked shot on help defense - one of his best games.

Obviously cannot have a huge offensive drought - 10 pts in 14+ minutes - like we did in the 1st half against a really good team on the road.

And obviously cannot put the home team in the bonus in the final 13+ minutes of the 2nd half. Two recipes for disaster on the road.

Considering those two things occurred, the margin could've been much worse, so we really had to compete & play hard to stay within shouting distance, which was good to see. Considering the two things mentioned above, that kind of game could've easily gotten into the 20+, 25+ margin range in a hurry. We certainly didn't make them uncomfortable by getting it to a 6- or 7-point game, but we also didn't let it get completely away from us, which easily could've happened.

And I'm glad we don't have to play against Gesell anymore. And yes that's sour grapes on my part.  ;) Would've been nice to have him in red the past 4 years. He was tremendous in the 2nd half last night. If he keeps it up, and with the way Uthoff is playing, Iowa will hang around in the B1G race for most of the season.

Takes from the game...

***I know this is just wrong, but Iowa may have the weirdest looking dudes I've ever seen on one basketball team.

- Morrow needs to be fed the ball more

- I'm just waiting for the game where is just clicks for Watson. I have a feeling it will be this year.  When it does look out!

- One of the biggest things I've noticed this game was towards the very end.  Shields was driving and made the extra pass which I've been dying to see him do!  Jacobson was just getting ready for the board when it came his way.  That is a bad sign.  Shields has been too selfish at the end of games so other players aren't ready for the pass, and just trying to get in position for the board.

- I don't care about Tai's numbers tonight, his decision making leaves me scratching my head.  He came down on a fast break in the second half and had a wide open Morrow in the post and he pulled back and then drove in.  He made the "Contested" basket, but I was sooooo pissed that he didn't make the pass to Morrow.

- White had an off game, and it came at the wrong time

- Shields went 0-4 from the line <- CAN'T HAPPEN!!!

- McVeigh is going to be good! He missed some open 3's tonight, but what he does with the ball is pretty good for a guy who is 6'8

- Nothing I have seen out of Jacobson leads me to believe he deserves more minutes than Morrow.  He deserves to play some minutes, I'm just not sure he deserves as much as he is getting.  Also why the hell not Play them at the same time?  Morrow at the 4 and Jacobson at the 5?

- Shoot me if you want, but I just don't like Parker getting the minutes he is getting.  Points or no points he is not that good guys.

- We have 3 Freshman and a Sophomore playing the post positions for us, not going to flip if we don't do great this year.  I want to see at least a couple of wins though, I just can't take this much of Nebraska Men's sports sucking.  It's not good on the heart

- Last thing If you can't make a shot in 12 attempts you aren't going to win many games

I saw this referenced earlier and it has been on my mind since the season started. Knowing that we lack post presence, but have relatively good depth at other positions, why do we continue to focus on running half court offense? With this roster, it would seem to be a good option to run more and press on defense instead of standing around in the half court.

Would love some thoughts on this from those more educated than myself.
