Is Tim Miles heading the Basketball program in the right direction in the last 4 years with developing players to be better each year vs. a guy like Chris Collins at Northwestern with one less year in than Coach Miles has into their programs.   I personally think Northwestern is also a tougher place to recruit player to and Collins is getting it done quicker.

Chris Collins has 3 years in as head Coach.  Same assistant coaches all 3 years. Northwestern in the bottom quarter of BigTen when taken over. no NCAA appearances.  Each year the overall wins were higher under Collins. Salary 1.4 mil.

Tim Miles has 4 years in as head coach, Nebraska in the bottom quarter of Big ten when taken over,  None of the same assistant coaches from 2012.  made one NCAA appearance.  One season out of four with 14+ wins. Salary 1.65 mil.

With all the assistant coaching turnover is Nebraska players developing better each year or looks the same?

Coach Mo was said to be a defensive wizzard but Nebraska has allowed more points than before he was here and the blame keeps going on the players as defensive errors.  Maybe the team isn't responding to what he is selling or its just not working..  It looks to me we over help, over rotate and hedge too high leaving the opponents very open on the backsides for easy scores.

Because we like Coach Miles as a person with his character as funny and outgoing with media and fans.

Are we being sold fools gold when it comes down to the bottom line are we seeing player improvements in his 4th year.  Is Nebraska getting a good return on their investment over 4 years?

Northwestern is playing just as many freshman as we are but they seem much more skilled.

Miles is making 2 million per year...he received a pay bump last year.  Not sure who the better coach is at this point, we may know in a few years....I do believe Northwestern is the tougher job of the two.  NW does have a far better local recruiting base but that only matters if you can land the local kids.  Up until Collins arrived for the most part Northwestern was an afterthought for local recruits.  He has done a good job recruiting Illinois....coming from Duke I think it's attractive for recruits to play under him.

They certainly have a solid NIT squad there with a shot of making their first NCAA tourney thought that SOS is going to be a killer.

Also they're going to play some/all of the B1G with not really many more post players than we have so it's something to monitor.

I think what Miles is doing here goes beyond Xs and Os but yeah some stability on the coaching staff would surely help. Would be nice to find a guy like Tim Wilson, someone who is good and wants to live in Nebraska.

Tell us:  What does Nick Fuller have to say about Coach Mo?

Both jobs are tough.  Northwestern obviously has very high academic standards and a very small fan base.  But, they are in either the number one or two (depending on who you ask…) basketball city in the world.  I think Collins success is helped by his Duke pedigree, but more importantly, I think it's due to the failures of other major schools.  The Illini are struggling to recruit their own state.  And how about DePaul?  I remember as recently as the late 90s when they had a recruiting class that included Darius Miles, Quentin Richardson, and Bobby Simmons.

It also doesn't hurt that his dad is a legend in town, either.

Miles is 3-1 vs. Collins in head-to-head match-ups.

I can name some players who have played above their potential for Nebraska

Terran Petteway was a player who was rated 3 stars with some Power 5 teams offering scholarships.  Turned him into a 1st Team All Big 10 player.

Shavon Shields was another 3 star player who had no offers from Power 5 teams.  He has turned into a very good player.

Andrew White was a pretty sought after player coming out of high school, but averaged 3 ppg for Kansas in 2 years.  He is now averaging 17 a ball game for us.

Northwestern has chicago in the back yard and a ton of homegrown talent.

Yep. Interesting comparison still, but Northwestern does have that trump card.

It may not be that great of a trump card though.  I suspect that most of the most desirable kids in the CPL aren't going to meet Northwestern's admissions requirements.

Prediction: Tim Miles will remain at Nebraska longer than Chris Collins remains at Northwestern.

Sneaky, jimmy.

So, you're figuring that Collins could leave Northwestern either by choice (a better gig) or by being shown the door, whereas you are thinking Miles isn't as well-positioned at this point to receive better offers?  And hence his only method of departure at this point looks like dismissal?

Good way of hedging your bet.
