Just curious what others think of the PA Announcer at PBA? I (as well as my son) personally do not care for his style. I think we both would rather have Steve Johnson (NU Volleyball PA announcer who did basketball for a year or two before we left the BDSC) back behind the mic for basketball but I'm just curious about others thoughts.

I haven't really given it any thought either, I have to say.  I don't really even notice him.

He is a far sight better than the Purdue hoops announcer.  That guy drives me nuts.

If Steve Johnson did basketball it's been 12+ years ago. Patrick Combs did it through Sadler's tenure until they made changes when Miles was hired.

Not something I've given much thought to, really, other than that I really like the "Let's play Big Red Basketball" thing he does at tip-off.

Really???  I think that is pretty lame.   Personally, I'm not a big fan of our announcer either.

this.

I'm of the opinion that the P.A. announcer doesn't matter all that much to how much you might enjoy a ballgame, unless they're unbearably loud & obnoxious (which is certainly open to interpretation). Most of the time the announcer's words blend in with the din from the masses when you're into the game, anyways.

I think the Runza on the 65th point is really unique and adds something.   I know the guy who does it now and he is a nice guy and I think he does a good job.   Has done state tournament games for years also.  Overall though I don't think the PA announcer really has much impact on my enjoyment of the game either way.

We just don't do that kinda thing around here.  -_-

I've had a bad habit of it lately.  :P

It's not just you and it's not just lately.

We could practically rename the board Husker Threadjack Central.

It's about time for the season to tip-off, that's for sure!

I love threadjacks. Sort of like leaving the interstate when you head somewhere. And , by the way, no one has taken time yet to identify my avatar (and he is not named Walter). i'm sure all of you pilgrims know who it is though.

Not a big deal to me one way or the other.  I do have a couple friends that tried to get the PA job for football.  it was a long shot, but they did get a nice letter from the U thanking them for applying and they would keep them in mind for any future openings for Announcers. Hell we even got Facebook Campains rolling for them.

While we are thread meandering, just to bring it back to basketball briefly, Will Geer was born in Frankfort Indiana where the high school team is officially known as the "Hot Dogs".

As Will Rogers might have said: "I never met a Hot Dog I didn't like!"  ;)
