Contrary to some published reports, Maia hasn’t visited Nebraska yet but is interested in scheduling a trip.

Who has published a report that Maia has visited?

Not sure what he's looking for academically, which could be the biggest factor, but I would guess Pitt is our biggest competition on the basis of needing height.

Darn! And I was just set to bring back my old tapir avatar. My brand new one lost some luster when Arod lined that homer into the monster seats. To make it worse, some jerk fan cost the Red Sox a run by touching a ball that was in play like he was some Cubs fan or something. Oh well, getting back on topic, you can't win them all.

Yet another swing and a miss on a big by Miles and staff

Falling in love with guys we're recruiting and don't land is an exercise in heart break because even Kentucky and Duke lose out on guys.

There are 600 transfers and counting. If we don't land him, on to the next guy.

If he's still deciding and someone else just as good comes along, sign the other guy. If we're not actively recruiting 4+ guys for our two spots, then we're dumb.

I'd be more inclined to think it's at least 6 guys to land 1 grad transfer. Perhaps more since NU has two spots available, but not likely to have 2 grad transfers taken this go 'round...

Andre Almeida is pretty big. So is Leslee Smith. Old Testament is pretty big too. All were serviceable, except for injuries.

Those don't count? How about Hammond? Jacobson? Morrow?

Leslee was serviceable, Almeida borderline at best.  Hammond is an incomplete and the other two are unproven at this point.

Recruiting 18-20 yr olds to the state of nebraska is hard. Just spent the past few minutes reading this entire thread. Sucks when a kid looks elsewhere without even giving you a chance. I feel your pain

Two points:

1. Recruiting without prior relationship is always a challenge;

2. Tim Miles & Co. won recent victories in lengthy recruiting battles for hotly pursued and highly regarded players such as White, Morrow and Watson.

I'm not disregarding those victories. Watson especially. Kudos to Tim and the staff for that one. In the interest of fairness, however, wasn't the Morrow battle NU's to lose from the get go? That doesn't diminish the value of the pickup, but I just wanted to point it out.

Trust me, Coach Mac and CU nation knows what it feels like to strike out on a recruit you could really use. Makes the kids you land all that more cherished, though

Yep.  Makes you savor the recruiting wins all that much more, huh?

BTW, this tweet by Lee occurred while he was visiting at USC.

If he's really already decided on Pitt is he just going for the free trip to LA?

He very well might be signing with Pitt but he hasn't yet.

Think it's just the frustration of knowing it's the final piece to the puzzle.

Maia was a huge need. I'm not sure there's anyone comparable left on the board who's a reasonable option. This team desperately needs a legitimate big man for next year and it's hard to believe they're going to find one who's not a huge stiff.
