Not anymore.

 

Right now, it's Suh -- 37%, McDermott 30%, and Alex Gordon 27%.

 

If you combine Suh's 37%, Gordon's 27%, Lavonte David's 1% and Prince Amukamara's 1%, former Husker athletes tally 66% of the vote.

 

That compares quite favorably to McDermott's 30% plus Kyle Korver's 2% and Anthony Tolliver's 0%.

 

Kinda funny that a guy who hasn't played in an official NBA game yet has more votes than a major league All-Star and gold glove winner who has his team in the World Series.

I don't think Creighton fans realize that they actually get to play another college basketball season here soon.

Doug is a great player and, by all accounts, a great kid.  I don't begrudge Creighton fans being proud of their own having done so well and, with the departure of all of those seniors, it's not like they're going to know the names of all of this year's starters, let alone feel any strong sense of enthusiasm about them.  So, let them enjoy continuing to follow McDermott.

 

If Dougie had gone to Gonzaga, the folks at Gonzaga would feel the same way as Creighton fans do.   And, as between him and Adam Morrison, there's no question who I'd rather claim as an alum.

Doug should fire the people he relies on for P.R. advice. His video at Northwestern will stick with people in Nebraska a lot longer than anyone in Chicago. I wonder if the Bulls forced him to do it? And I wonder if those fans from Omaha with the reversible sweater vests were booing or cheering Doug's performance last night?

Addressing the Doug McDermott/Northwestern "issues". The vitrol is absolutely unnecessary. McDermott went to Creighton. He is not from Nebraska. He has no ties to Nebraska other than Creighton's geography. The only basis justifing the complaints given is that some of McDermott's fans also support Nebraska. Does that mean McDermott must cheer for the Kansas City Royals instead of the Cubs simply because the majority of his Creighton fans love the Royals?

While walking to my ride after the game, some guy, wearing Nebraska gear, called McDermott a sellout out for cheering Northwestern. I, of course, had to challenge him (must to the dismay of my female companion, aka Herring).

Seriously people if you are going to divide your loyalties between two different schools, you cannot expect everyone to subscribe to your divided loyalties as well. McDermott is loyal to Creighton and only Creighton. He has every right to dislike Nebraska if he sees them as a rival.

Most importantly, a "sellout", by definition, is a person who claims to adhere to one ideology only to follow up with actions contradicting the ideology. McDermott cheering against an in-state rival is the antithesis of a sellout. HOWEVER, oddly enough these Nebraska/Creighton fans fit the sellout definition.

Complain all you want. But when you divide your loyalties between two rivals, do not get upset when your divided loyalties clash with each other.

The only thing is that your scenario doesn't match this one. I personally don't care, I actually find it kind of funny.

But unlike any other situation id say at least 75% of his fans at CU are Husker football fans. Yes NU was a rival to him but to the people that cheered him he's just giving them a nice little thanks but here's my middle finger today. Again it's not a big deal but probably ahould have just not showed himself.

Also I do know one of his best friends is Ben Cotton and his brother is a die hard Husker football fan.

Had to have been a dilemma for the Jayskers.  Their hero going out of his way to make an anti-Nebraska football statement?   Call it what you want, Donkey, but for a guy with no Northwestern ties other than living sorta close to Evanston, it was a pretty direct shot to a big percentage of he and his dad's fan base, the Jaysker.

His appearance obviously lit a fire under the Wildcat team. They really turned it up a notch. Maybe he'll make another to prime the Bluejays for their game against NU as well.

Jimmy is right. The kid didn't attend Northwestern. This was a deliberate shot at Nebraska and he had to go out of his way to do it. It didn't elevate him in the eyes of Northwestern fans but it had to tarnish his esteem among Jayskers. His choice, so whatever.

I wonder if he was paid for his Northwestern endorsement?  I cannot imagine that what he did enhanced his reputation in Chicago.  Most people in Chicago could give a rip about Northwestern.

I walked around Chicago for two days with Nebraska gear on. People constantly were asking me who Nebraska was playing this weekend. Not one of them knew Nebraska was playing Northwestern. I did notice Northwestern having a huge campaign claiming to be "Chicago's University". Having McDermott lead that cheer was probably an extension of that campaign.

As for the Jaysker thing, people are certainly welcome to cheer for whomever they want. But do not get upset when one of your teams actively promotes against your other team. How many people do you know cheer for both Kentucky and Lousville? What about Duke and UNC? Creighton wants create a national brand. It does that by having strong rivalries. Creighton is in a new conference without any clear rivalries. Going after Nebraska not only helps its national exposure as well as sending a message Creighton no longer wants to share the Omaha market with Nebraska.

To all Jayskers, either accept that one of your teams doesn't like the other, or reevaluate your allegiances.

If this is the true reason Creighton wants to build a rivalry it would be pretty sad. Rivalries develop from natural animosity between fan bases. I'm sure Quantrill didn't burn down Lawrence to build a KU-MU rivalry. Real rivalries come from natural, not artificial passions. I am certain that Wichita could try forever to promote a "rivalry" with Kansas, but it would never happen.
