Minnesota_Husker Posted May 5, 2016 Report Posted May 5, 2016 Unless the coaches know something we don't (and we should hope they do!), I agree that an offer to Link to make them a package deal seems like a no-brainer. Especially if it looks like we will not be using our final scholarship once again. And we also have to worry about AW3 leaving another scholarship open. I think if they honestly believe Link can contribute, then offer away but if they are only offering him for Jordy I wouldn't. I don't think AW is going anywhere either. Quote
khoock Posted May 5, 2016 Report Posted May 5, 2016 Link averaged 9 pts and 11 reb before he got injured. Cannot find the severity of the injury . Quote
Jugular Posted May 5, 2016 Report Posted May 5, 2016 And a lot of blocks. Can he be worse than Moses or Hammond? Link averaged 9 pts and 11 reb before he got injured. Cannot find the severity of the injury . Quote

Just wondering out loud what the reaction would be if you end up having the space for another player after taking Jordy's replacement (probably not as talented) simply because you didn't offer the both of them hhcmatt 1 Quote
MitchMcGaryMunchies Posted May 6, 2016 Report Posted May 6, 2016 Jordy and most big guys we will be in on are projects, something is keeping them from being sought after by the blue bloods. We were in on some good players but the center spot is the hardest to recruit for a reason. Most big time post players need time to develop their body. Unfortunately being 6 11 isn't normal so time can help fill out a body. Who knows if Jordy will be good or not, it's up to him and his genetics. At most, there is a handful of "can't miss" bigs in each recruiting class. While I agree that our chances of landing one of them is nonexistent, I certainly wouldn't classify Jordy as a project by any means and I don't think his genetics are in question. At all. The dude AND his bro are pushing 7 feet! I'd say the genetics are definitely there. Hell, even MJ's older brother (Larry) was only 5' 8". He could still jump out the gym, though... Basketball scouting is by no means an exact science and the "experts" do still get it wrong from time to time, but their accuracy is generally much better than other sports. Body development is far less important than it is with say, football. Hence, this is why the top seniors have usually been scouted since the 6th grade. It's a skill game, and if a kid has the desire and determination to hone those skills at a young age -- or an obsessive father/uncle/handler that is hell-bent on cashing-in off the kid or living vicariously through them -- there's a damn good chance that will continue throughout their adolescence. The biggest wild card is the high school growth spurt. Larry Jordan was by far the better player than Michael up until the summer before MJ's junior year, when he grew five inches. For bigs, foot and knee injuries are often career killers, but weight gain is probably their biggest enemy (think Eddy Curry, Andrew Bynum, etc.). The fact that Jordy has worked hard to reshape his body is extremely encouraging. It shows discipline, self-control, and motivation. Those attributes are prerequisites for success at higher levels of athletics. Quote

TourneyBound Posted May 6, 2016 Report Posted May 6, 2016 I just wonder what he is waiting on?? If it's Nebraska what would you be waiting on to possibly commit? If he likes Minnesota more than maybe he is waiting on a scholarship to open..... Is he waiting on more offers?? Just a hard one to gauge... Quote

Assuming that Jordy is taking a visit there I guess we'll see if both end up visiting and if both are offered. It also depends on how much academics, stability, and overall support is valued because UNLV will chew you up and spit you out if you're not ready for it. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted May 6, 2016 Report Posted May 6, 2016 With all that we have to offer this kid that aligns with what he says he wants -- playing time, academic support, etc. -- I'm a little befuddled at the fact he continues to set up visits. Quote
ajb5856 Posted May 6, 2016 Report Posted May 6, 2016 Sounds like we may be prepared to offer Link if it seriously comes to that... Quote

ajb5856 Posted May 6, 2016 Report Posted May 6, 2016 I'm not worried. Yet. I will be somewhat if Jordy sets up that visit to UNLV. Desperate teams trying to jump in last minute with a coveted spring recruit. That's what happens with these legitimate late signers. Sounds like a newly hired assistant who has previous ties to Jordy is the reason for UNLV becoming interested or that is the connection anyway. I guess we will see if Jordy is truly interested or if that is where it stops. Quote
huskerbaseball13 Posted May 6, 2016 Report Posted May 6, 2016 Even more concerning is things appear to be pretty slow on the recruiting front.....we still have two scholarships open and unless the coaches are playing it really close to the vest...we don't have a backup plan for Jordy and he's anything but a guarentee. We're recruiting Jordy under the premise that he's our big man. Are we going to recruit over the top of him and then hope that he doesn't pass and we whiff on that guy? Are we going to recruit a guy obviously not as good and just hope that works out? Are you going to do this all on the d/l and just hope that what you're doing won't get out? I sure as hell hope that we're playing our contingency plan close to the vest because I don't particularly think, for instance, that reading about Mangok in the Journal Star is an effective method of recruiting. We are recruiting kids like Hammond, even Jordy or Serge who all have to reshape their body. I was talking to an AAU coach who believes the issues with bigs are due to them never learning how to run correctly for being a tall person. Quote
Swan88 Posted May 6, 2016 Report Posted May 6, 2016 As we await the Jordy Tshimanga decision, it might be helpful to consider the timeline followed by Link Kabadyundi. Here it is, as best I can piece it together (dates are approximate): Feb. 22, 2014: Unofficial visit to Oklahoma March 8, 2014: Official visit to Nebraska ??? : his brother says they will make a decision by "week of April 16" Before May 2, 2014: Official visit to TCU Shortly after May 2, 2014: Official visit to Tulane May 20, 2014: Official visit to Utah State June 3, 2014: Link commits to TCU Here is an article containing some of the foregoing info. hhcmatt and Norm Peterson 2 Quote
