royalfan
Just want to thank everyone who could be a part of that one again. One of the best sports memories I will ever have. Will never forget that amazing day in Lincoln. Never seen an entire building refuse to lose like that environment. When Petteway hit that three to go up 9-2 or whatever the place literally exploded. What an amazing day. hhcmatt
kldm64
Couldn't agree more. I never thought they would get everyone to stand the entire game but it happened and it made for one of the best games ever in Nebraska Basketball history. Handy Johnson
I was lucky enough to watch this game in a bar in Wisconsin while all of the drunken 'Sconies sat there slack jawed in silence. Then they did what all drunken 'Sconies do and started mumbling something about Packer season.

huskerbaseball13
For my sporting experiences I'd rank it right up there with seeing the Huskers in the CWS and getting to see the Huskers in the Rose Bowl even though we did not make it a game. It was an awesome atmosphere.

hhcmatt
It was easily the most electric game of the Pinnacle Bank Arena Era....did any from the Devaney Center Era equal or surpass it?
uneblinstu
It was easily the most electric game of the Pinnacle Bank Arena Era....did any from the Devaney Center Era equal or surpass it? I didn't go to many games before the turn of the century, but none that I attended did, at least not for the duration. There were some moments, though. The game vs. KU when they went crazy from 3 and hit 18 of them got pretty loud, but we lost that game. The first half vs. KSU after the Texas upset was pretty raucous but not nearly on the Wisconsin level. I didn't get to games in the golden years, there may have been some games in there that were pretty crazy. There is certainly some footage I've seen that would suggest that. Daledangdarn
It was easily the most electric game of the Pinnacle Bank Arena Era....did any from the Devaney Center Era equal or surpass it? I'm not sure if it was my first Nebraska game I ever went to, but it is the first one I remember. It was the 92-93 season and I was eight years old. I remember Devaney being absolutely packed and we were way up on the wooden bleachers crowded in. KU was coming into the game ranked like 3rd or something and we beat them, it was awesome seeing as a kid. hhcmatt
49r
Some of the KU games in the 90's and the Michigan State game from the same era were pretty damned electric. During the height of the Nee era, Devaney could get pretty lit up. (I mean the building, not the coach, but I suppose maybe both would apply...) Handy Johnson
We knocked off a top 10 Sooners squad with Daryl Kennedy during the '86 season. That was Nee's first year, and hinted at what was to come. The place went apes**t because we rarely hung with teams like that, let alone beat them. But this year I can say with a straight face we WILL compete for a B1G Title...
Popular Post OurDecay
It was easily the most electric game of the Pinnacle Bank Arena Era....did any from the Devaney Center Era equal or surpass it? I had season tickets from 1993-1998, and also went to a bunch of games in the 1990-1992 years...in my mind, the Wisconsin game at PBA far surpassed any of those games in terms of atmosphere. The reasons for that are expectations & stakes. Frankly, in my opinion our basketball fans have never been more hungry for success and hope than they were this last year. During the Nee era, NU sustained a high level of success...going to multiple NCAA tournaments, etc. But we hadn't exactly been "bad" prior to that. I think it is worth reminding people that in a 19-season span from 1980-1981 to 1998-1999, Nebraska: Had 17 winning seasons in 19 years (.591 winning percentage) Went to 15 post-season tournaments in 19 years (6x NCAA, 9xNIT). While they went 0-6 in the NCAA, they also went 19-9 in the NIT, three times making it to New York, and winning the NIT in 95-96. Went .500 or better in conference play 12 of the 19 seasons. Had eight (8) 20-win seasons. Had an average RPI of 57.2 during that span, and an average SOS of 44.6. NU had a top-55 RPI twelve (12) times. The following era of dispair, of course, started in the last year of the Nee Era (1999-2000). In the 14 seasons from the start of that season thru the end of last year, Nebraska: Had only 6 winning seasons in 14 years. Went to only 5 post-season tournaments in 14 years (all NIT). They have gone 3-5 in those games. Went .500 or better in conference play only ONCE (8-8 in 2008-2009) in 14 seasons. Had one (1) 20-win season (2007-2008). Had an average RPI of 112.1 during that span, and an average SOS of 60.7. NU only had one top-80 showing in the RPI...#74 in 2008-2009. THAT is the backdrop and context for the 2013-2014 season. To say that our fans were "hungry" for success would be an understatement. You saw that all come pouring out during that Wisconsin game. To find an equivalent relevant to NU, I'd have to go to football. I was a student at NU from 1993-1998, and the crowd with NU in 1993 & 1994 was much different (better) than it was even in 1995-1997. Because our fans flipped from hunger and desperation into expectation. People grumbled in the stands during those seasons, and we were winning national titles. I actually think the best equivalent in football might be the 1992 night game vs. Colorado...which as it turned out signaled the start of a new era for the football program. That is maybe the loudest NUFB crowd I've ever experienced. The fans were hungry. Back to NUBB, I think fans let expectations detract from their emotions and fervor in the Nee era. And under Collier and Sadler, I think fans never got the sense that we were truly building anything as a program, so even those stray upset wins sort of felt fleeting like fool's gold. The Wisconsin game felt like a step on a flight of stairs towards a new place that NU basketball has never been. Just my (long) take. HB
Good historical post, Decay. The stat that jumps out to me is this: ONE season at .500 or better in 14 years. Wow. That says it all in the futility category.
