I cringe real hard reading those tweets of people openly campaigning for a job. Realy hard...

Strick did the same thing last year and did a full media tour when the HC position opened up. He needs to take a step back. I would love to have him but it's a bad look to campaign for a job.

Strick has to know a good percentage of Husker fans want former Huskers on staff because they know the "Husker way".  I mean on other boards he was mentioned right away as an option.  Same thing happens whenever a baseball, football, etc job opens on staff that a former player is the perfect fit.  If you are a former Husker you can really build up that loyalty people have for you and they will try and ascend you because of it.  Luckily the higher ups don't fall prey to it but there will always be those fans clamoring for it to happen.

Looking at Miles' resume and the things he said at his opening press conference about not having a pedigree, it suggests to me that Miles wouldn't be looking to take a flier on an assistant coach who hasn't worked his way up from somewhere.

If Eric Strickland wants to coach under Miles, he should probably try to get a job at Mayville State first, prove he can do it, and then work his way up from there.  Same with *other people* who've talked like they think they should be hired for an assistant job with the Huskers.

I agree. I like Strick, and would love for him to have a low-level assistant job here, but we're talking about our No. 2 position or maybe No. 3 depending on what we do with Harriman. If we want to keep the momentum going, I think we need to aim a little higher than Strickland.

I really hope we steer towards a strong "X's and O's" type of guy as I think Miles and Smith were pretty much "co-coaches" in that department. I'm not a big fan of hiring someone just because of AAU connections, besides I thought that is what we brought in Kemba for. If we do go the connections route though, it needs to be someone with strong connections in the blood bath known as Chicago high school basketball recruiting IMO.

I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. Smith was a great recruiter and a great X and O guy and I think the guy Miles gets will be a great recruiter and be a great X and O guy. This is the advantage of being a place where coaches want to be, you don't have to settle.

...it also appears that a major piece of the job is scouting opponents and building game plans around those reports.  It appears to me that Coach Miles trusts and leverages his assistants much more so than some of our previous coaches.  Neat to see, yet in order to keep the program growing, this next assistant hire will be IMPORTANT.  I simply do not see Strick fitting this role...at least not right now.

By the way, I always thought that one of Danny's major issues was his failure to hire and/or leverage his assistants effectively.  Just my very humble opinion.

Tyronne Lue!!!!!!!!

Kidding. If I remember correctly from a similar discussion he had last time about an asst. coach opening he's perfectly happy in the NBA.

I don't think that ISU coach from New York would be all that bad. We don't need to have a Chicago guy nessecarily. Not now that Rutgers is joining the B1G. Players' parents should be able to watch the games on TV or at least made a trip to Rugters once-ish a year. At least I assume the BTN is going to be on cable providers in NYC. Isn't that the whole reason we invited them to join? More eyes on TVs?
