PimpMario Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Losing Smith sucks. Lets not sugar coat it. He was certainly a big part of Miles' success. Not Miles has to show he can get an assistant that can bring something to the table. As for pressing, I always kind of thought that was something you did if you didn't have any starts or if you didn't really have a first line that was markedly better than your second line. Pressing makes you tired on the offensive end. Quote
Concrete Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Good to see others in the profession are taking notice. If Miles could pull a coach from Georgetown after year 1, I'm pretty optimistic that he's going to land another stud this year Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 I wonder if Bruce Pearl will be bringing in his own guys at Auburn. I do find it interesting that when Miles took the job, he allegedly asked everyone who came with him to commit to at least three years in Lincoln. Chin Coleman apparently couldn't make that commitment, which resulted in him being assigned to the football operations position. Now, two years later, only Harriman appears to be fulfilling that original three-year commitment. I don't begrudge either Ben Johnson or Craig Smith for their decisions, and I'm happy that both guys got jobs they wanted, but it's interesting to me that only one assistant coach from the original staff remains after two years. Hopefully we can replace Smith with a really solid hire. I think Smith is different than the rest. Here's a guy that has spent over a decade of his life helping Miles make the jump from level to level. He has put in his time and I'm sure Miles was more than willing to get Smith to this level. throwback Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Yeah but G-town is in a mid-major conference now. Quote
Hooper Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 I know that Miles was hoping Smith would get the CSU gig when he left there, but it didn't happen. I'm sure Miles is happy for Craig, as I am. It does suck, though. I can't imagine you'd find two coaches who were more in tune with each other than those two were. He will be missed. Quote
HuskerCager Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 There was another former Nebraska assistant who got a head gig and took the team to the NCAA tourney besides Spoonhour. You referring to Moe, Norm? He does fit that definition. Actually, Moe did coach at TCU, but he didn't take them to the NCAA. I'm drawing a blank here, Norm, who do you have in mind? Moe was an assistant at Nebraska. He got a "head gig" (at Nebraska), and took the team to the NCAA tournament. Too bad Norm doesn't make salsa, or I would get me some. Nice work, my man. Kind of a trick question but you weren't thrown off the trail. I'm sure Cip would be delighted to reward you with some of his famous salsa. Dang, Norm, you are one sly fox. Nicely done. Quote
aphilso1 Posted January 6, 2023 Report Posted January 6, 2023 With each head coaching stop, Craig is looking more and more like The One That Got Away. Solid four year turnaround at SoDak, followed by three consecutive NCAA bids at Utah State. Now in only his second year at Utah, he has the Utes off to a 5-0 start in Pac-12 play that no one saw coming. https://www.ksl.com/article/50551983/runnin-utes-remain-undefeated-in-pac-12-play-after-19-point-win-over-beavers In related news, Brandon Ubel is no longer on Craig's staff. Apparently Brandon landed his first full-time assistant coaching gig this season at SoDak. Gotta think Craig's connections there helped. HB 1 Quote
