uneblinstu Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 This shouldn't be a big surprise. Good for Smith, hope he does well there! Quote
brfrad Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Congrats to him. He is going to be very tough to replace. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Congrats to him. He is going to be very tough to replace. It's got to be very tough to lose, probably his best friend, and right hand man that's been there by his side for quite a few years. Best of luck and hope we find another great coach to replace him. tcp Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 happy as heck for coach smith. sad for us. we lose a big cog in the system. if you see this coach smith, good luck. you'll be missed. Quote
49r Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Good for coach Smith, and good for South Dakota...best of luck in Vermillion, coach! Quote
GATA Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Congrats to Smith. With our recent success, I'd say we have a chance to add a real nice assistant, though. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 I am happy for Coach Smith...I am sad...I am happy, I am sad... He will really be missed. Quote
Buglem Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Sad to see him go but happy for him. It was a matter of time that he got a head coaching gig. Good luck coach! Quote
Huskerpapa Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 I sure hope it doesn't affect any of our incoming recruits...I doubt it will, but one never knows these days. Quote
HB Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Not surprised, but selfishly I was hoping for another year. Hope he gets it done there. I'm sure Miles has some guys in mind, as Smith was going to get a head coaching job; just a question of when. Quote
Hooper Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 I'm happy for coach Smith, because he deserved this, but he was a big part of our success. I'm sure we'll replace him with a really good coach, but you can't replace the years those two have had together in the trenches. Smith had strong Southwest recruiting connections. It will be interesting to see what type of recruiting background his replacement has. Quote
throwback Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Congrats to Coach Smith - tough loss for us, but you had to know it was coming eventually. We're losing a good one Quote
Neebraska Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 I really thought this was a concern for next year, maybe not this one. I didn't realize the USD job was open or I would have been concerned. Quote
doc1394 Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 I bet we move Harriman up to assistant head coach or whatever is 2nd in line. This just means its time for Kenya to step up a bit on the recruiting front and reel some guys in. I think Smith got Fuller, Hawkins, and Tarin. Harriman got Tai and Pinder. Need to grab a guy with connections. Any chance at all we pick up Coleman again? This time as an assistant coach with recruiting power? Would probably help get Morrow. Quote
GATA Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 I really thought this was a concern for next year, maybe not this one. I didn't realize the USD job was open or I would have been concerned. USD fired Joey James, a former Bellevue West standout. He was their interim coach. Small world. Quote
huskerbaseball13 Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 Congrats to Coach Smith! Really liked him but Miles will make a great hire. Quote
