Man this game today screamed a need for a good 5 man and a pg who can hit a shot or two. I think tai will be greatly improved. If we don't land a juco big Jacob will play next year.

Maybe Hammond plays, but it probably won't be enough to make a big difference. We need a juco or a fifth-year transfer badly.

1) Athletic big man.

2) A shooter

We do not need someone to take up space in the middle.  Our game is to drive to the hole.  We need a big man who can post up if needed, but as importantly, one that can screen, roll and finish at the basket

As far as a shooter, perhaps he (or they) redshirted or played a small role this year.  If Hawkins and Fuller gained the strength that is necessary and can refine their games...then perhaps their abilities will emerge next year.  I also believe Tai will be much better next year.

I do think Jacob will play 10 to 15 minutes a game next year.  Now, the key is whether we get a transfer that is eligible and can play one of our "big" positions.  Jacob, Walt, Leslee, David and a YTB...

Our freshmen have a lot of work to do heading into next year.  I agree with CWG that we need an athletic big.  I think someone who plays good post D, who has a little bit of a post-up game, and who cleans the glass with authoritay.

The team needs to mature and play without letting frustrations force them out of their game.  Pitchford was missing in action today (has anyone seen him?)  I didn't like the match up with him on Jefferson, would have preferred Rivers...but that really doesn't matter.

Proud that the Huskers made it to the tournament and I was there to watch, but the game was an embarrassment for NCAA officiating.  That being said, Baylor deserved the win because we never adjusted.  I hope we don't have to wait another 16 years for an appearance.

Petteway isn't ready for the NBA. He needs to develop in 2-3 areas before he is ready. I don't know how much better this team can be though without a legitimate 5 man. Not a scorer, but a rebounder and defensive player. His point production can be 5 or so a game, but we need a post.

It's a guards game. Get a rock solid point guard, whether that's a transfer or Smith or Webster develops over the course of the season, point guard play is the biggest need on this team. Post depth is right behind it. It would be nice to be able to play more than one big at a time. I though Pitchford improved greatly from game one to the end of the season as a rebounder, but he needs to improve his post defense. I don't mind him playing on the perimeter if we can have another post that can play in the paint, but it'd be huge if he could develop that area too, but that's secondary to me.  None of this is groundbreaking.

I do not see Jacob redshirting.  The only possible ways that he redshirts is if he suffers an injury OR if we get a one and done transfer.

Miles has said that Jacob will most likely redshirt to adjust to division 1 bball.

i'm fine with him redshirting assuming we get a juco/transfer

Seriously, I guess I have not heard or read that declaration.  Any idea where I can find that information?

On a related note, don't look for Jacob Hammond to contribute next year. Miles told the crowd at a recent get-together that he expects Hammond to redshirt in order to acclimate to the college game and build strength.

I did a little math.. webster and benny were at about 7 points, 3 assists, and 2.5 turnovers per game.

If they can get that up to about 10-12 points, 5 assists, and lower the turnovers, that's a pretty big jump forward... and it's not terrible numbers out of a point guard.  And honestly it looks doable to me.  Yeah they wouldn't be chris paul but we don't need them to be chris paul.

I think we can improve internally a LOT at that position.  Which means our biggest need is that senior transfer 4/5.

As I posted last week, Miles told folks recently that Hammond is on track for a redshirt because the staff feels that his body just isn't ready for the B1G yet. They want him to get a lot stronger during a redshirt season.

If Hammond plays next year, it will mean that something bad likely happened -- either someone got seriously injured or we struck out on signing a grad transfer or JUCO big man.

I keep seeing people wanting a senior transfer.  With our main physical center (Smith) being a senior next year I would rather see us get a JC transfer(preferably a 3 yr) or another high school big man.  Otherwise next year we would graduate both of our physical centers leaving us scrambling again in 2015.

Only problem is neither of what you want are available that are capable of playing at this level. The best scenario is a 5th year transfer or a transfer that has to sit a season. Those are the only viable options left for big men for the 2014 class unless a foreign big man comes out of nowhere.
