You realize your career is winding down right?? You are flat out AWOL! This team is dying for another scorer to emerge and this program has given you a free education + the rock for 3-4 years and you are flat out AWOL!!!!!!!! Wake up and be a part of this before it's gone

How do you go for 23 vs an opponent and 365 days later not score a single point. Something is seriously wrong.... I'm not gonna make any accusations but it's flat out puzzling

Groce & Company had a week to draw up how they would shut down our team. You can do a lot in a week without disruptions.

I'm sure he would like to wake up....but he's just not good. He gives us nothing at this point.

Life is not all or nothing. We weren't great yesterday and we aren't terrible tonight. Ray's playing great defense and is always one of the hardest workers in the motion offense. For one thing he is not getting anywhere the number of shots as last year, partly because he isn't getting any sets run for him this season.  That is not his role this year. It would be great for him to have a break out game. It may or may not happen, he has always been a streak shooter. Ray can play a bit. He has his weaknesses but I'm sure he could destroy anyone on this message board. He has dealt extremely well with going from being the go to guy to accepting his role off the bench. Most, and I mean most D-1 players couldn't deal with that. I'm sorry you feel bad about THEIR loss tonight, but insulting Ray is just childish. If you ever played I'll bet you were a finger pointer there as well. From what I can see, Ray is a great teammate. I'm sure he feels much worse than you because he is physically, mentally and emotionally invested as part of the team. As a fan I'm sorry they lost as well. Ray plays hard. He plays with heart. He is one of our guys.  I'm rooting for him. Us Always.

This is a great point. Never underestimate playing ANYONE when they have has a full week off to prepare. Its not an excuse by any means, but certainly adds to the difficulty of the typical Big 10 roadie.

I might consider going the other way if I were Miles.  We need him badly.  I would put him in the lineup for Tai to start the game.  And I would try to free him up early to get a couple shots.  See how the shots look and if not pretty then move on.  Not losing much.  But could gain a lot.  It isn't like Tai is lighting the world on fire anyway.  And I think we have enough ball handling, especially against NW.  Half the problem is Miles is not confident in him either right now.  He isn't trying to free him up much.  And maybe it is a deal where he is not going to recover this year.  Miles would obviously know better than I would.  But I am not giving up on him.  A trey or two going in the basket can change a lot.

He's proven that coming off the bench has typically been a disaster.  Theoretically he'll start against Wisconsin for senior night.

I think this thread is a little harsh.

He is going to be fine. Roasting the kid isn't going to achieve anything. He's a senior - he knows all of this. We need to support him and hope for the best - because we have no other choice. Talking down to him isn't the answer.

Yup, every player on this team has gone through a slump this year.

I stand by my statement. Right now Rey is not good. And hasn't been for some time. I realize we don't really have any other options and are just going to have to hope he can hit a few shots down the stretch.

Respect your posting, but sometimes you use a bit too many absolutes.  Not everything always has to be looked at in extremes.

It could be Hawkins if he could keep his head in the game on the defensive end.

Ray might not be hitting shots but typically he's not a liability on the other end.

No you don't stand by your statement, you sit behind it at the key board with a fake name. Standing by it would be saying it to his face. I would never call anyone "not good" unless I could personally beat them. If I can beat you, you aren't good. You can't beat Ray. Ray is a D-1 basketball player on what we hope is a bubble team. They don't let "not good" players play on those teams. He knows his role because it has been spelled out to him by his coach. I'm not part of the team but I take exception to someone who obviously thinks putting the ball in the hoop is the only thing that makes you a good player insult a team player on what I like to think of as my team.

How can we put this loss even close to Rey.  Our 3 best scorers went 8 - 31 from the floor, and 2 - 10 from 3.  They scored a combined 23 points.  They had 47 % of our points despite taking 69 % of our shots.  It's pretty easy to see why we lost this game.

Because Illinois made 9 threes, shot 12 more FTs than NU & had 11 offensive rebounds that led to a 16-5 advantage in 2nd chance points...

Im not putting this loss or any loss on Ray. Im saying moving forward, it sure would help our 'top 3' players if our returning senior who averaged double figures last year could take a little pressure off of them. Re read my post brfrad & please stop accusing me of things I didn't say or type. Thanks! UsAlways
