It seems Bo has taken note of Coach Miles' ability to use social media to his advantage.  First the Harlem Shake, then making the Spring Game fun, memorable and inspirational.  Now this:

I think its a lot of Bo finally starting to feel comfortable.  It takes some people quite awhile to open up and grow in a position or life in general when put into a new situation and I think thats something youre starting to see.

This has nothing to do with Miles though because there are tweets out there from previous players stating this is Bo's best prank and that its something hes done in years past but they obviously just never were filmed and put out there for the world to see.  My guess is that with the outlets like twitter blowing up the last few years compared to when Bo took over the job that these things get out there where they may not have previously.

...and just one other thought, and this is simply my opinion.  As much as I love Coach Miles (in him I trust), Bo and many of the other coaches did indeed have a strong sense of humor prior to Coach Miles arrival.  Beyond that, Coach Bo also has a heart as big as Nebraska.  He truly is a players coach.

Exactly.   Miles is great but this was classic Pelini.

Sorry but you guys are wrong - Behind closed doors Bo is way different than you see on TV. The guys love him, he's very humorous, and has a lot of fun.

Did we forget the "Carl-Fense" videos when he first got here? Also, he plays a joke like this on the team every year basically.

Both Pelini and Callahan have very guarded public personas. They're both very different from each other, but both coaches adopt a very guarded public personality that's much different from what you see in private.

Solich, on the other hand, was mostly the same guy in private that he was in public. Much less-guarded public persona.

I LOVE the prank Bo pulled but it only work because you believe that it COULD really happen. It was so perfectly in character and what a great sell job by Thad R! It was beautiful.

I also remember when Bo had a LPD officer come into the locker room after the first spring game and said they were here to arrest Quentin Castille.  It was for a hit and run he had earlier in the game.

Like Kandy said before, he's soooo much different with his players than he shows to the media and fans.  Heck I've even heard that he's really good with the fans in one on one situations.

Contrary to what ESPN wants you to think, he's a players coach through and through.

If that's the case, I'm wondering why the players found it so believeable he would be beating the crap out of one of his players for having his phone ring in a meeting.

Actually he was beating the crap out of the phone.

You may not like him, but he IS a players coach.

And not only that but Bo was the one getting his ass kicked. As he said thamks for coming to my aide guys.

I thought the prank was pretty funny, but I doubt any of those players thought Pelini was on the worst end of the scuffle that was "happening" outside the room.

HB--I wasn't referring to him taking the hammer to the phone...I was referencing the supposed fight that happened when Pelini followed the player out of the meeting room.  You don't suppose he was still pretending to beat up the phone, do you?

Bo just can't do anything right in some peoples eyes. Dork at the OWH all but suggested this was a PR move, as if it is in Bo's personality to do such a thing. jeeezzz

I don't think it was a PR move (but I understand why some may be questioning why there were cameras there, or why it was released...it's not like the Harlem Shake video they did during the spring).

Again, I think it was pretty funny...they pulled it off pretty well.

But there's something about the players knowing/thinking/believing Pelini is the type of guy who would do this kind of thing for real bothers me a bit.

I'm pretty sure they all thought Thad Randle was beating up Bo.  Bo would have no chance in that fight unless there are some Taikwando skills up Bo's sleeve I don't know about.

This thread started out, at best, only marginally topical.  Since then, it's drifted, predictably, completely OT.  This is not (and really never was) about NU hoops.  Do we have a Huskers Fall Sports board?  If so, it probably belongs there.

I didn't want to contribute to the thread after it came to a Bo Love/Hate fest, but I agree.  I'd even be okay to have the thread locked, despite starting the dang thing in the first place.

My only point was, Nebraska's athletic department was dependent soley on the local/national media for almost all of it's PR stuff and had only begun to dip its toes into the social media waters when Miles came on board (the definition of embracing social media - call it self promotion if you like) and it seems that somewhere after the end of football season last year, we see Bo start to present himself in a, shall we say, more palatable light than what we were subject to on ESPN and the OWH, et al. -- with the fun and games at the spring game, harlem shake, and now this.

Bo is famous for forbidding football players to use twitter, but maybe that's because he didn't understand the merits of social and viral media before?  Has Tim Miles shown the way to his colleagues?

It's ok, Norm.  Once basketball season starts all football/Pelini discussions will cease.  Sort of like how all Creighton talk on this board stops in January.

Bo's not the only one that has banned twitter for his players.  A lot of coaches do it.  Heck remember when Turner Gill banned his players from talking to girls at certain times?

Heck even Miles has talked about how dangerous social media can be for college athletes.  But he believes in educating on how to properly use it.

I implore anyone to look up every player from every team we play during the year on Twitter. You'll find that nearly 50% are banned from twitter during the season. I use Twitter and facebook as my main sources for information to trash talk and it's becoming harder and harder to find.
